BIBLE VERSE OF THE DAY
The right to keep and bear arms
By Mike Huckabee
One of the more disturbing moments of Biden’s gun control announcement was his claim that his orders didn’t infringe on the Second Amendment, but then he added, “No Amendment to the Constitution is absolute.”
Actually, “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” sounds pretty absolute to me. But then, so do all of the rights enumerated in the First Amendment that Democrats have been more than willing to toss down the garbage chute in the name of public safety.
Biden even alluded to “You can’t yell ‘Fire’ in a crowded movie theater” as an example of an exception to free speech rights. Except there really is no such exception.
That refers to a 1919 case in which Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote that "falsely shouting fire in a theatre and causing a panic" isn’t protected, but that meant that the speech had to be both false and dangerous. In 1969, the SCOTUS partially overturned that, ruling that only speech that’s likely to incite imminent lawlessness (a riot) could be banned. Even Holmes later changed his mind and thought his ruling might have been wrong.
But notice how incredibly narrow that restriction is, and how it’s targeted only at someone in the process of inciting violence. It doesn’t say you can deprive law-abiding citizens of their Constitutional rights because of the possibility that they might misuse them in the future. That’s the idea behind Biden’s proposed expansion of “red flag laws,” but that’s not America; that’s the Tom Cruise movie, “Minority Report.”
Hunter Biden's laptop is back in the news
By Mike Huckabee
Thursday, the Daily Mail reported that it had authenticated Hunter Biden’s laptop. They hired a former FBI computer forensics expert to pick the drive apart, and his analysis found that the data appears to be authentic and he found no evidence of tampering or fabrication, by Russia or anyone else.
The “Russian disinformation” excuse was the media’s go-to reason for censoring this story, despite the DOJ and FBI both saying they’d found no evidence of that. Then on “60 Minutes,” Hunter dodged and weaved around the issue of whether it really was his laptop, saying maybe it was and maybe it wasn’t: “It could be that I was hacked, it could be that it was Russian intelligence. It could be that it was stolen from me.” Imagine Jackie Mason saying that and it’s funnier.
Anyway, now that the Daily Mail claims to have authenticated it, the next question is, “What does it reveal?” For this, you might want to send the kids out of the room. Hunter’s new book about his life is called “Beautiful Things,” but that’s not a title you’d give to the linked article. It might actually make you feel sympathy for Joe Biden, who at times comes across as a loving dad dealing with a cruelly hostile son with serious addiction and self-control issues.
Two pieces of news that emerged from the story are that it appears a Secret Service agent was still protecting Hunter from himself in 2018, when he was allegedly on a self-destructive drug and prostitute binge, even though he was not entitled to protection at the time. Also, we learn it’s possible that Hunter may have been the real reason Joe ran for President. Hunter angrily texted that Joe’s campaign team had painted him as the “uncontrollable troubled tax cheat philanderer sex and drug addict that you tried so hard to fix but couldn’t,” and if he didn’t run for President, “I’ll never have a chance at redemption.” Joe texted back, “I’ll run, but I need you,” and urged him to stay in recovery.
Okay, that’s far-fetched. But Joe has always claimed that he decided to run when he heard Trump say there were very fine people among the neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, which Trump never said. So this story is as reliable or more so than the official one.
Prince Philip
By Mike Huckabee
Early Friday morning, word came from Great Britain that Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth II’s husband of 73 years, had died at Windsor Castle at 99. Philip served in the Navy in World War II, the couple married in 1947, and Elizabeth became Queen in 1952, making Philip the longest-serving consort in British royal history. He enjoyed good health for most of his life, and only gave up driving at 97.
Our condolences to our British friends, and a salute to Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth, two reminders of an age when members of the royal family put decorum and duty to country above selfish personal pursuits and the media spotlight.
“Everything Is Racist” News
By Mike Huckabee
In today’s “Everything Is Racist” News, CNN spins the Big Wheel of Random Offensiveness, and it clicks to a stop on…Chinese-style type fonts! So make a note: your Chinese restaurant menu is now officially racist.
Well, to be fair, the writer does eventually get around to admitting that a type font can’t actually be racist, but only after expending far too many words trying to make the case that it is.
Chauvin Trial Update
By Mike Huckabee
We haven’t been reporting on the day-to-day testimony in the murder trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who is accused of killing George Floyd. The trial was presented originally as a slam-dunk, with all the state’s forces arrayed in the prosecution, while activists outside threatened to burn down the town if Chauvin wasn’t convicted. Which raises the inevitable question: what if he’s not?
Sure, that seems impossible considering the odds against him, but some of the witness testimony so far isn’t exactly helping the prosecution’s case, as you can see at the link.
"Infrastructure"
By Mike Huckabee
Peter Suderman of Reason.com takes a closer look at President Biden’s $2.5 trillion “infrastructure” plan, and demonstrates how little of it is about rebuilding and modernizing our infrastructure and how much of it is massive payoffs to the Democrats’ political allies.
Of course, to channel Bill Clinton, that all demands on what the meaning of “infrastructure” is. What if you define “infrastructure” as literally everything you want the government to do and pay for, from child care to paid leave?
That gave rise to our hilarious “Meme Of The Day”:
Dire consequences from tax increases
By Mike Huckabee
I’ve been warning about the dire consequences to the economy if President Biden gets his way and imposes sharp increases in taxes on US corporations. But that was based on years of experience and common sense. Now, thanks to a study by two Rice University economists, we have some hard figures to quantify the damage.
In addition to substantial decreases in investments in equipment and structures, it would lower US GDP by $117 billion by 2023 (rising to $190 billion by 2026), and cost approximately one million American jobs in the first two years alone. On the plus side, if he really wants to do the opposite of everything Trump did, he would certainly be accomplishing that.
Facebook Data leak
By Mike Huckabee
A massive data leak of 533 million Facebook users was recently revealed. To find out if your data was exposed, read this article and follow the link to search for your email address.
Not to take this lightly, but remember, if you really care about keeping other people from exploiting your private data, you probably shouldn’t be on Facebook at all.
A Reader Writes Back...
Like the reader attached to this email... I’m worried about our future as well as my grandchildren’s. I always shake my head and wonder why we Republicans can’t get our act together. Why reactive and not proactive. Having a great plan ahead of time. Health insurance as an example. How do we gets kids today to see where we are headed without these good plans. I want courageous people in leadership. Am I expecting too much?? Thanks for your daily messages of hope. So appreciate you and yours.
