Chief Justice John Roberts declined to take part in Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin’s latest attempt at a high-tech lynching of Justice Clarence Thomas.
I love that he attached to his reply a copy of the Court’s Statement of Ethics Principles and Practices, noting, “All of the current Members of the Supreme Court subscribe.”
There are more details at the link, but in a nutshell, Democrats are once again trying to hound Thomas off the Court, this time because he and his wife have gone on vacations with his friend of many years, GOP donor Harlan Crow, who has never had a case before the SCOTUS. Also, Thomas failed to report some real estate transactions on his 2014 financial disclosures because he lost money on them and the ethics guidelines at the time said he didn’t have to report them. Are you appropriately outraged?
Instead of yet another witch hunt against the conservative black Justice, maybe the Senate could spend its time more productively by investigating the financial connections and ethics violations involving various shady billionaires, hostile nations and members of the Biden family. Or is that a situation that doesn’t inflame their situational ethics?
