Today's Commentary: House budget passes -- We are with you Eric -- Visiting the graveyard of history -- Tom Perez needs a government lesson -- US factories expanding -- The IRS actually apologizes for something

-------------------------------------

On Thursday, the House voted by a slim 216-212 margin to pass the Senate’s $4 trillion budget plan, which helps clear the way for the tax reforms President Trump is pushing for. To nobody’s surprise, Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats opposed the budget in lockstep, then rushed to the cameras to denounce the budget and tax plan as the end of the world, a “massive con” that will gut needed spending, and boost corporations and the rich while devastating the poor and middle class. Problem is, they say that about everything Republicans do, so it’s sort of lost its effectiveness. Rhw budget spends $4 trillion, and she makes it sound like a pittance.

It also doesn’t help that when Nancy Pelosi talks about refusing to pass a budget bill, it tends to remind people of when she and the Democrats ran Congress, and they didn’t pass a budget for six years. It’s hard to tell from her criticism whether she refuses to support this particular budget or she’s just allegoric to the entire concept of budgets.

Sincerely,

Mike Huckabee

We are with you Eric

By Mike Huckabee

My TV show on TBN last weekend focused on the deadly opioid drug epidemic that last year claimed more American lives than the entire Vietnam War. Now, we can add another tragic statistic to the death toll: it was just reported by the coroner that the cause of the death two months ago of the son of my former Fox News colleague Eric Bolling was an accidental overdose of drugs, including opioids. Eric asked Americans to help fight this deadly drug epidemic and thanked everyone for their continued prayers for his family. I’m sure I speak for all my readers when I say that we’re with him on both counts.

Visiting the graveyard of history

By Mike Huckabee

Two young female writers for the leftist web company Vice Media declared that capitalism is “the spookiest thing of all,” so they did a live web feed of them spending 30 minutes trying to contact the spirit of the father of communism, Karl Marx, on a Ouija board because Marx is “necessary now more than ever.” There are so many layers of ignorance and idiocy here that going through them all would be like peeling an onion and even more likely to make a reasonable person cry (like trying to summon the most notorious pusher of atheism from the afterlife, or protesting capitalism with a Ouija board that I assume they bought from the Hasbro Corporation for about 25 bucks.) So I’ll just concentrate on the most obvious:

After failing to summon up Marx’s ghost from the bowels of Hades, one of the women suggested that they try doing it in a cemetery. I doubt that they even realize how appropriate that setting would be, considering it’s estimated that between the mass starvations, famines, executions and other atrocities, communism was responsible for the deaths of nearly 100 million people during the 20th century.

How about letting Marx stay in his current warm climate and we all consign communism to the graveyard of history?

Tom Perez needs a government lesson

By Mike Huckabee

Every minor slip of the tongue President Trump makes is amplified and treated in the news as proof of his shocking ignorance. So what do you suppose would be the reaction if he stood up in front of a law school crowd and told the students, “The Electoral College is not a creation of the Constitution.”

Well, yes…it is. It’s clearly outlined in Article II, Section 1. Except Trump didn’t say that. Tom Perez, the head of the DNC, said it. And he has a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. So now we know you can get one of those without ever having to read the Constitution beyond the first Article.

US factories expanding

By Mike Huckabee

As anti-Trump liberals make news with plans for a mass scream-in (I kid you not), here is the news you probably didn’t hear: US manufacturing is expanding at the fastest rate in 13 years. No wonder the people who didn’t want Trump are screaming.

The IRS actually apologizes for something

The news here isn’t really that the IRS targeted 501(c)4 groups for their political affiliation --- we’ve been aware for a long time of their efforts to do that --- but that, as part of a settlement between the DOJ and Tea Party groups, they’ve actually issued an apology. The IRS almost never apologizes to anyone for anything. But in response, the wronged groups had essentially two words for the IRS.

No, not those two words. Well, maybe those, too. But the words I’m thinking of are a sarcastically-delivered “Gee, thanks.”

Don’t blame Tea Party groups for having a tepid reaction to the long-awaited apology. The damage was done to them (and, arguably, to the country) during the 2012 elections, when instead of fighting to preserve the Constitution and elect leaders who favored limited government, simpler and fairer taxes, and sane spending, they were forced to lawyer-up and fight for their own existence. The hearings with Lois Lerner didn’t take place until 2013; by then, Barack Obama had already been safely re-elected. And we all know how much he respected the Constitution.

It’s not even a very good apology. In his statement, Attorney Gen. Jeff Sessions made it very clear what the IRS had done and how unacceptable it is, but the apology from the IRS avoids specifics. Here’s the text:

“The IRS admits that its treatment of Plaintiffs during the tax-exempt determination process, including screening their applications based on their names or policy positions, subjecting those applications to heightened scrutiny and inordinate delays, and demanding some of Plaintiffs’ information that that the TIGTA determined was unnecessary to the agency’s determination of their tax-exempt status, was wrong. For such treatment, the IRS expresses its sincere apology.”

Notice that they never admit deliberately targeting these groups. (And spare me the chin music about some progressive groups being targeted as well. If a few were targeted by this bunch, it was most likely to cover their tracks or because they happened to have a suspicious word in their name, like “American.”) If this had been nothing more than innocent mismanagement, Lois Lerner would have simply explained how it happened instead of pleading the Fifth, heading off to retirement, and never apologizing for a thing.

I just wanted to share my thoughts on the letter the assist. F.B.I. Director gave Trump stating he should fire Comey. I feel it was a well planned way to get Comey fired then Comey's leeked memo then Muller all was pre planned. But Trump does not think in terms of deceit so he believed Roesinstine. This was all a set up (enjoy all my mispelled words) (hehe)

I found it funny how the left talks about how the tax cut would help the rich and not the poor or middle class. People like Nancy Pelosi are rich so it would seem that by passing the budget she would gain herself right? Yet when it comes to telling the trust she does not know how or just don't care!

Just another scandal in the "scandal free" Obama administration. It's too bad that the IRS can't get back some of the money that they paid from Lerner. Like so many Democratic wrongdoers, she avoided any punishment.

    Dear Gov Huckabee
There is a very clear answer to the pain pill problem. Cannabis. I grew up like you, being told by drug companies that it was a horrible drug, likened to other really horrible drugs. But, before Big pharma came up with pills that were worse for us, cannabis was used for many medical problems. You cannot overdose on it! It's wonderful for medical reasons. It's not good for young people to get high on, but used medically it will resolve the whole problem. Most of our states have done their jobs and put it in place. We just need for the feds to make it easier on us by making it legal. Problem solved! It even cures cancer. I only came to this conclusion recently. As I said Big Pharma did quite the number on us since the 40's. I don't use it, but I do use CBD, and very gratefully. I learned a lot in my research to do that.
