The Extreme Court has “did it” again. This week, they decided that the voters of California nor God almighty Himself were as wise as they were. While I understand the technical legal nature of their decision, the effect was to ignore a substantial majority of voters in California who twice affirmed the Biblical, historical, and natural law definition of marriage of one man/one woman. Even if you think people of the same gender should marry, I would like to think that you might feel such a major cultural shift should be in the hands of the people who are supposed to hold ultimate authority under our authority of government. Even in the decision on Defense of Marriage, or DOMA, the legislation was passed overwhelmingly by both houses of Congress in a bi-partisan vote and signed by a Democrat President, Bill Clinton. No matter that some who voted for it say they have “evolved” and are against it. If that’s so, then put it back before the world’s greatest deliberative body and the People’s House and see how it flies. Same sex marriage is newer than Google and the iPod, and the first nation to ever codify didn’t do so until the year 2000. I’m told that I need to get on the right side of history and support the marriage of two people of the same gender. I respectfully believe I am on the right side of history, because the history is pretty long on marriage between a man and a woman; not so much for other versions. Despite the frothing of the advocates to the contrary, I’m neither a homophobe nor a hater. I am simple enough to believe that a marriage of one man and one woman not only is the only biological combination capable of creating the next generation, but in the context of a monogamous and committed relationship, it’s the best context for children to learn how to replace their parents. If we are determined to change the definition of marriage to accommodate how people feel and what they wish to do because of their mutual consent, then we should immediately release those incarcerated for practicing polygamy or bigamy, and frankly, let’s make all consensual adult behaviors legal, whether prostitution, assisted suicide, or even drinking 16 ounce sodas in New York City. As much as I’d love to be loved and admired by all, I can’t defy the definition of marriage any more than I can defy the law of gravity. God created both and at the point I decided to follow Him in my Christian commitment, my life nor its rules belong to me any more. As for the argument that it’s a matter of equality, let me gently point out that the issue is not equality, but sameness. Equality means intrinsic worth and value and would guarantee one’s right to vote, rent or buy a house, go to school, or receive medical care. But equality of worth doesn’t create sameness. There are differences between men and women, and votes of Congress nor the Extreme Court can change that. After 39 years of marriage, I won’t pretend that I understand women, but I know there’s a difference. Courts said in 1857 that black people weren’t fully human and they were wrong. They said in 1962 that we couldn’t pray in school and they were wrong. In 1973, they said unborn children were disposable and expendable, and 56 million dead children later, they were wrong. And this week, for those of us who believe God created male and female, and who believe what Jesus said that a man shall leave his father and mother and a woman shall leave her home and the two will become one flesh, they were wrong again.

"They" stole the word "GAY" when it didn't apply. Now "they" want to steal the word "Marriage" when it doesn't apply. Next they will want to steal the word "Christian".

At the very least mr. H. and readers, if the governmenyt condones this behavior and accepts marital status of same sex gender; then let the govt. marry them. None should ask the church or God to change their (or His)mind on this issue. That's something I just don't see happening! If the court rules in favor, then let the courts marry them, but leave the churches out of this decision!

Amen to everything you said. Lately, the news is so depressing to me. You see kids being disrespectful to their elders, teachers, & bus drivers. The media controlling the news. The USA govt. being such a disappointment, untrustworthy, and trying to control the citizens. It's really scary. I was born in 1953 and I was so proud of my country and schools. I notice even Fox doesn't say what a lot of people are thinking, that we are fulfilling the Bible and it is the end of time. The USA can't even make a pair of shoes anymore. If we would get back all our factories and industries that went overseas we would have plenty of jobs. Things made in the USA were so well made and now we have all this crap. They are making drilling rigs out of China Steele that you can bend. USA Steele was strong. Look at your tools, they are all cheap. I want the America back that I grew up with. This America is scary and I think Rome didn't fall in a day and we are not either, but the govt. is too ignorant to see it. It's so sad and I worry about my grandchildren.

What's next pedophiles being able to marry who they want underage children? Society because of liberal indoctrination and the shredding of both the constitution and the holy bible has become ignorant and immoral! We have got to bring God back into society or America is history! God will turn his back on us if we do not change our ways! I am also so tired of people telling me I'm judging them or condemning them, I don't make the rules, I do what I'm told and as a christian we are all told to witness and spread the gospel! God condemns people for their sins and for not becoming saved not me, and God will condemn this country if it keeps ignoring Christ! I will not stop speaking the truth about abominations, or intentional sin because it is my duty as a christian not only to teach those who don't know, but t protect the innocent who don't know any better! God Bless! O:)

Where we have gone wrong, is that we don't call sin for what it is anymore. It is sin. In the eyes of a Just and Loving God they will be judged for their lifestyle according to His word. So call me whatever you want, shoot me if you will, but in the end I will stand before Jesus Christ, justified, and sanctified, in eternity. Sin will also have it's reward. Our government and legislators cannot legislate morality.
