Today's Commentary:  Let's examine Dems' ties to Russia  -- All you need to know -- McConnell's Announcement -- Finding Happiness

It’s been clear for a long time that if you want to know what the Democrats are up to, just look at what they’re accusing the Republicans of doing. They prove the wisdom of the old saying, “When you point a finger at someone else, three fingers are pointing back at you.”

In the midst of all the “Russia, Russia, Russia” hysteria, we still don’t know much about Natalia Veselnitskaya, the Russian attorney who was able to obtain, under the guise of “opposition research,” a brief meeting with Donald Trump, Jr., during his father’s campaign. To be clear, the fact that she was Russian raised no red flags for him at that time because this was well before the “Russia” narrative had taken shape. He has made it plain that he just wanted to check out what she had to say –- as any campaign would do regarding “opposition research” –- and that if it broke laws or was in any way suspicious, he would have seen to it that authorities were notified. But nothing whatsoever came of it.

But who is this woman, and what was the real purpose of obtaining this meeting? One factor to explore is the relationship between Veselnitskaya and Fusion GPS, which paid (with funds from a pro-Hillary PAC) for the infamous, made-up Christopher Steele dossier on Donald Trump. And conspiracy theories are already brewing about her appearance during the Obama administration at a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing, sitting right up front. Not to stoke the conspiracy fires, but I do want to know more about this woman and the real strategy behind that odd meeting with Trump Jr.

Also, a must-read article by Rowan Scarborough in the Washington Times shows how, in the final analysis, it’s the Democrats who “colluded” with Moscow during the campaign. Again, we look to that infamous dossier by former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele. Steele says his sources were almost exclusively from the Kremlin, so the report was based literally on Russian propaganda. He says it should never have been made public. Ironically, it’s this dossier that led to the investigation of Trump’s ties to Russia, when the information it contained came from the Kremlin and was paid for by Democrats.

All you need to know

By Mike Huckabee

If you still wonder why liberal Democrats can’t get elected except in deep blue urban areas (hint: it’s not a Russian conspiracy) and why they seem so out of touch with everyday working Americans, a new Pew Research Center survey may hold a clue. It found that 36% of Democrats believe that churches have a negative impact on American society. Among liberal Democrats, that jumps to 44%. Only 40% of liberals think that churches have a positive impact on society. By contrast, just 14% of Republicans have a negative view of churches. And what do a majority of liberals think does have a positive impact on American society? Fifty-one percent said the national news media do. Enough said.

McConnell's Announcement

By Mike Huckabee

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced that the Senate will stay in session for the first two weeks of August instead of breaking for vacation. This came after 10 Republican Senators sent a letter urging him to schedule more working days so they could get something done about tax reform, health care and the budget before the end of the fiscal year on September 30. That’s not only the responsible thing to do, it’s also the wise thing to do if they want to get reelected. Their constituents have this crazy notion that doesn’t seem to exist in Washington, that you should get your work finished before you go on vacation.

However, I am continuing to push for no recess until Obamacare is repealed by the Senate.  If you agree, sign my petition here.

Finding Happiness

By Mike Huckabee

A lot of people try to enrich themselves by promising to sell happiness to others. But if you really want to know the secret of happiness, it’s now been scientifically proven: give generously to others.
