July 1st will mark exactly two years since an innocent young American citizen named Kate Steinle was shot and killed in broad daylight in front of her father on a busy tourist pier in San Francisco by an illegal immigrant with seven felonies and five deportations on his record. He shouldn’t have even been on US soil, but the ultra-liberal officials in that “sanctuary city” protected him by defying a request to turn him over to federal immigration authorities when they had him in custody.

Today, at long last, the House is poised to consider “Kate’s Law,” a law named in Ms Steinle’s honor (although she is just one of many American victims of criminal illegal aliens who have been shielded by misguided sanctuary policies). It would increase penalties for deported criminal aliens who return to the US. The House will also vote on a second bill called the “No Sanctuaries for Criminals Act” that would withhold certain federal funds from local governments that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration laws. This link is to an article by Attorney General Jeff Sessions explaining the proposals.

The laws seem certain to pass (believe me, if they weren’t, I’d be using this space to urge you to call your Representative right now). Democrats will try to derail the sanctuary cities law, but even their shameless leadership is too ashamed to make a public stand against Kate’s Law. And to give credit where it’s due, when it passes, its supporters owe a debt of gratitude to Bill O’Reilly, for making it a personal crusade for the past two years.
