In any other Administration, a Congressional report that the State Department had taken $465,000 in US taxpayers’ money, funneled it to a leftist political group that smeared and interfered in the election of another nation’s leader (Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel – a staunch ally of America but a thorn in the side of Barack Obama for pointing out the dangerous folly of his Iran nuclear policy), then attempted to hide it by purging emails that are supposed to be public record – well, that might actually make the news. People might even be indicted, or just imagine, go to jail over it. But with the current Administration, every last, slimy element of it has become par for the course and greeted by the press with a yawn. So much so, this could be the first time you’re hearing about it.
There’s even the requisite phony excuse (the emails were only deleted to keep the sender’s box under the server limit -- which would have been solved if they’d been archived, as REQUIRED BY LAW). Seeing all those disgusting details piled up in one report is a reminder of how far we’ve fallen in holding our leaders accountable. It took 232 years to build a nation on the rule of law, and less than eight years to dismantle it. As Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit likes to point out, if Americans want to see the rule of law restored, restraints placed back on the Executive branch and the media once again assume its role as a fierce watchdog, they have only one choice: they have to elect nothing but Republican Presidents from here on.
