On Friday, we featured a reader letter on the future of the Republican Party as it relates to President Trump and the way he’s handling –- or not handling –- this post-election moment. She felt that it’s time for Trump to step back.

Trump has been reacting wildly on social media (Truth Social now instead of Twitter) in the very style that at times has put off even some of his most ardent supporters, and newly incomprehensible as well. He’s coming off as vengeful and bitter, and that’s not a good look if he’s getting ready to announce another run for President.

Certainly the pressure was on him to provide the coattails for the GOP, especially for certain candidates he’d endorsed. And the outcome is turning out to be disappointing and uneven, given the expectations many of us had. Losing the House would have been a disaster in many ways, but at this writing, late Friday, we’re almost sure of taking it. Still, another disappointment has hit, as it was reported Friday that Democrat Sen. Mark Kelly, a reliable Biden rubber-stamper, will keep his seat, with a win over GOP candidate Blake Masters in Arizona.

Note:  In speaking of this apparent win, I’m setting aside for the moment the serious vote-counting issues in Arizona and Nevada, which are addressed elsewhere in the newsletter. On Friday, we also asked questions about the Maricopa County recorder’s office, which it seems has found a loophole in Arizona law to continue taking money from an organization funded by Mark Zuckerberg. There’s no reason to trust the election in Arizona when it’s this partisan and even run by none other than gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs, Kari Lake’s GOP opponent!

But, aside from that, it does appear that there was quite a red wave, much more, I'm sorry to say, than is apparent in the appropriation of actual seats. Aaron Kliegman reported for JUST THE NEWS that according to Cook Political Report, Republican actually won 52.3 percent of the total ballots cast, at least as of late November 10, with the Democrats coming in considerably lower at just 46.2 percent. We checked for an update early November 12, and Republicans were still in the lead, though their margin was a little narrower, 51.8 percent.

This report is updated regularly, so you can check here to see how we’re doing.

Kliegman wrote: “It’s unclear at this point what explains the glaring incongruity between the GOP’s underwhelming performance in terms of winning seats on the one hand and its significant lead in the popular vote on the other.” That’s something to look at, certainly. But those overall percentages are at least something to celebrate --- and they’re no doubt very concerning to Democrats looking ahead to the next election.  Marc Elias must be lying awake nights coming up with more ideas for putting a thumb on the scale in 2024.

Certain races, however, particularly the Senate race in Pennsylvania where Trump-backed Dr. Mehmet Oz lost to cognitively-impaired far-leftist schlub John Fetterman, so irked President Trump that he took to his own social media platform, Truth Social, to say some extremely ill-advised things. The worst of all was his totally nonsensical jab at Virginia GOP Gov. Glenn Youngkin, which seems as though it might have been posted while Trump was under heavy medication. (One almost hopes we could find out that it was.) In a rant saying Youngkin wouldn’t have been able to win the governor’s race without him, he referred to the name Youngkin –- “Young Kin” –- as “sounding Chinese.”

This comment, seemingly from the planet Saturn, came on the heels of Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears’ remark that with these midterm election results, Trump should leave GOP politics. “A true leader understands when they have become a liability,” she told FOX NEWS on Thursday. “A true leader understands that it’s time to step off the stage, and the voters have given us that very clear message.”
Yes, that comment was surely upsetting fro Trump to hear.  But he reacted early Friday morning by taking that swipe at Youngkin, perhaps unwittingly proving Sears’ point.

Youngkin stayed above this. “Listen, you all know me,” he told reporters. “I do not call people names. I really work hard to bring people together...that’s not the way I roll and not the way I behave.”

The NEW YORK POST spoke to sources who had been around Trump as returns came in, and they didn’t paint a pretty picture. Trump had focused his ire on the increasingly popular GOP Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis when DeSantis had said nothing to provoke him, violating President Reagan’s “11th Commandment” about not speaking ill of others in the party. Trump succeeded only in making Republicans long for someone like Ronald Reagan at the helm of our party instead of what we have. And that makes the more measured DeSantis look even better.

Given what Trump has been put through by his political enemies ever since he first announced he was running for President, it’s amazing he came through it in one piece. He is still standing after attempts on every front to destroy him, and we love him for that. But he needs to demonstrate for us that the saying, “What does not kill us makes us stronger,” is true in his case. (Research has shown that this is not generally true.) Trump needs to be stronger, not flailing. Wiser, not more emotional. More strategic, not more impulsive. If he has been weakened, if he is now more of a political liability, he’ll need to understand that it’s time to embark on another phase of life, outside of politics, for the good of the country he loves.

Given all that the left have done to try to take Trump out, how ironic would it be if they were able to just stand back now and let him do it to himself?

On the other hand, when Dan Bongino addressed this issue during his Friday podcast, he said he’s not worried that a primary contest between Trump and DeSantis will weaken the party. Judging from history, he believes this would strengthen it, no matter how much aggravation and airing of dirty laundry is involved. It’s good, he said, “because by the time you get to the general, all the dirty laundry’s been aired.” He also reminded us how hard Trump campaigned for Ron DeSantis in his first, very close election, saying that’s probably what placed him in the governor’s chair. He credited Trump for Florida’s move to “red.”

But Trump was certainly wrong, Bongino (who lives in Florida) said, to call DeSantis an “average” governor, when he is an excellent governor. “He took what Trump started,” he said, “and ran with it in the state of Florida.”

“The best approach right now is to slow down,” he cautioned. It should be about the party right now, and the races currently at stake. “There’s no rush,” he said; “there’ll be more than enough time to attack each other [on issues].’ He’s confident they’re “not gonna hurt each other” but strongly warns they must NOT make it personal, because voters will be deeply alienated by that. I would say this warning might have come too late for Trump, though, as we’re already seeing him alienate them.

What do you think? Here’s the podcast; his remarks on Trump/DeSantis start about 43 minutes in…

Trump will destroy the GOP, or any conservative movement, if he continues his immature actions toward ANYONE he feels is a challenge to HIS future aspirations. MTGA (Make Trump Great Again) is not a prerequisite for MAGA. Antics that worked in his school yards, or owned businesses, aren’t working here…he needs to adapt, for MAGA’s sake.

    Dear Mike,
Unfortunately, many of us that live in Arizona are feeling very much like Trump because we do not trust the Hobbs election. We see from a Gateway Pundit report that some reporters are not allowed where the count continues and are being threatened even by the Sheriff of Maricopa Cty. How can we accept the mess of 6000 ballots going out under Hobbs without the names of Republican candidates running for office? How is it that the tabulators are not working right? And now, the Election ballots that are appearing every day at the Elections Bldg. is surrounded with a fence under lock and key from who? We don't really know who is inside running these day by day ballot counts! Florida does their election and finishes their count by November 8 with a much larger voter registration count than we have. Here we are in AZ still counting days later and refuse to let us count by hand. Other states have had their issues too.
President Trump is finally frustrated as many of us are that the election is still a mess. Don't forget what he's been through since he first stepped into the political arena and all the years he served as President. The lies have been discovered but no justice has occurred so he's still being stomped on with the January 6th Kangaroo Court. Jealousy, hate and divisiveness continue to be what the Democrats want & push for with the media on their side. For President Trump's health, I would suggest he step down too but not for his words. With all that he accomplished, have any of these that he says words about ever thanked him for all his work and accomplishments? Yes, some have but not all of them. Why not? With the way our country is heading, I just hope President Trump takes the right road for himself and our country. I don't know if anyone else can carry the load to clean up Biden's mess and his minions and throughout the world.

Dear Lord, Jesus Christ, please help us with our country to bring you back into everything we do. Please guide and protect us! Lord, please hear our prayer. In God We Trust!

I’m all for Trump’s policies but will vote for someone else to implement them. Trump seems to hate everyone and I guess that includes me.

Trump is not erratic, sedan his is being bought by traitors and loads like pence and ryan! not good for the people of this country! And essentially is no Trump and never will be! DeSantis is a good guy who was just bought by a bad group! These same people are never Trumpers! Trump has been betrayed by so many and he is so worried about this country, he has the right to say whatever he wants! You people forget Trump knew DeSantis, when he was president! And the millions of Trump supporters will never forget what Trump gave up to save this country, and he's not done! Trump is GOD's chosen and anointed, and GOD is NOT done with the great patriot and leader Trump!

Trump is reverting to a "me first" rather than "country first". As a result he will alienate himself to more American than ever. He can't help himself, but he has lost me as a supporter. I would vote for him if he becomes the nominee, but he will lose again, if he did lose the first time. But unless we clean up the voting problems in these states, we will never see a conservative as President again. When AZ and PA are seen from overseas, we look worse than banana republics in our voting. No more long periods of mail balloting and early balloting. Vote over a weekend and get it done. No more long count drop and roll shady vote totals. No more Zuckerberg money. No more Soros money. Other wise I would push for a civil partition, either peaceable or real war. Their choice.

In sports, teams are often confronted with the dilemma of having a player who has put up all star numbers but is starting to show signs of regression and whether to sign that player to a long term contract extension or move them while they can still get good draft picks and prospects for them. If you re-sign them, the fans will be happy but halfway thru the contract you may have an average player eating up your salary cap, leaving you unable to improve your team. If you move the player now, fans might be unhappy, but it may end up being the best move you could make for the future of the team.

This is where I see the Trump dilemma. I see him as I do in the above player example. Trump had a few good seasons but is now on the wrong side of his player trajectory. Many baseball players had a few good seasons hitting homeruns until pitchers figured out how to get them out. Great players adjust to that, others continue to swing at the same bad pitch over and over again. Trump is showing to be that batter who can't adjust his swing.

He definitely needs to calm down. He has proven he can lead this country effectively. All he needs to do is stand firm quietly and only reassure when necessary. You can’t be negative about others even if you don’t approve/like them or don’t like how they handled a matter. without running down yourself. There’s more than one way to handle things effectively. Hope he does so. He’s a great and deeply thoughtful person.

At a rally last week when President Trump talked about Ron 'DeSactrimonious', my heart sank. It felt like my two children asking which one I loved the most.
PLEASE President Trump!!, please stop the name calling. This divided country needs to be united, not this constant chaos, confusion and personal defamation. We/I know you love this country. If it weren't for you fighting for 'we the people', there would be no constitutional liberty left. You taught us that we had to fight and how to fight. The Lord bless you for that.
The ugliness of our deep-state, political government was revealed these past six years and we have been shocked! You exposed it! When others told you you couldn't do 'it', you punched holes in their 'boxes' and found a way to do 'it'.
We/I hate the relentless attacks on you and your family and we pray for you constantly.
We/I would love to see you finish what you started with another four years and plan on voting for you. UNLESS you rend our hearts by personally attacking your comrades, those who want the same for America that you want; to save America!
Please move your ego out of the way in order for you to be the best, greatest president of all time.

    Mike,
I thought you were one of the good guys, but you have just proved yourself to be another RINO Republican Elite. You talk a good game, and I am happy that your daughter is the new Governor of Arkansas. However, those with your mindset need to take a step back and retire from politics. You wouldn't last 5 minutes if you had to put up with the abuse that our 45th President, Donald J. Trump has. President Trump is one of two Presidents in my lifetime that stand for 'The People' . He had our economy humming along, Peace was restored in the Middle East, and North Korea was not threatening to send missiles into South Korea. Our country was producing all the energy we needed and even exported some. President Trump forced members of the U.N. to pay their fair share for the first time ever. President Trump is not perfect, but neither are you. When you have to criticize a good man to make yourself feel more important, you lose the argument. Please take me off your mailing list.

It is time for Republicans to develop a backbone and stand up against the corruption and stealing of elections across the country. It is time for Truth, Justice, and the American Way to return to this country. It is time for our children to be taught to respect the American Flag and to Thank God for the Freedom they enjoy. That freedom was won as a great cost of blood, sweat, and tears. Rino Republicans and Democrats are pushing One World Government. Where do you stand on this issue? Rino Elite Republicans do not accept the MAGA movement mainly because they can't control it. The MAGA movement is ordinary citizens of this country that have had enough of people like you bashing our President. Parents are running in school board elections and winning. Next churches need to stand up and see that they are part of the problem. They need to stand up and defend unborn children. Abortion is wrong. Thank God that curse has been removed from our nation. All the states need to pass laws to protect the children, make sure that CRT and pervert sexual practices are not taught to grade school children. We need to pray For America and her way of life to be saved.

I think you are correct..Trump had better watch himself. After that tasteless remark about DeSantis, I was ready to vote for the gov. instead of my beloved Trump. Trump is showing his "ass" again and I don't think that is a political advantage.
