After six votes Wednesday, holdouts were still refusing to back Rep. Kevin McCarthy, and the House voted to adjourn and reconvene later today. Reports are that negotiations continued last night with some possible progress. The New York Times, citing confidential sources, claims that McCarthy “privately agreed to more demands from the right-wing rebels that he had previously refused to countenance, including allowing a single lawmaker to force a snap vote at any time to oust him from the speakership.”

McCarthy has offered an astounding number of concessions, listed here by Victoria Taft at PJ Media.

The Club For Growth has also reportedly cut a deal with a super PAC associated with McCarthy that could result in them endorsing him as Speaker.

Fox News has comments from Florida Rep. Byron Donalds, the latest alternative proposed for McCarthy.

As noted in the article, until there’s a Speaker, the new House can’t even be sworn in, so this is preventing necessary action from being taken on many fronts.

McCarthy’s detractors still have no alternative candidate who is more conservative and can attract enough votes to win. They keep pointing to the last time conservatives forced McCarthy to withdraw in 2015, but back then, a dark horse “unity” candidate stepped forward and won. Considering that was Paul Ryan, whom they now vilify as a squishy, Trump-hating RINO, it’s not exactly a ringing endorsement for this strategy.

This is a continuing (and continuing!) story, so keep checking the regularly updated Fox News feed for the latest developments.

One thing to note:  While the 10% wants to rule over the 90% (who has ever allowed that or thought it was the way elections work?), it’s revealing that some of the holdouts have said in interviews that what they are “demanding” of Kevin McCarthy is that they get choice committee assignments and a promise they won’t be punished for their attempted coup.  That’s not only delusional, but very telling.  If a person is objecting by sheer principle, one is willing to suffer whatever the consequences for the rebellion.  When a person says, “Hey, this is about ME…protecting MY position, MY role in leadership, and MY being able to take any shot I want at 90% of my colleagues and have no consequence other than being rewarded.”  THAT my friend is NOT acting on “principle.”  It’s a selfish act of a power grab and publicity stunt.  Reward THAT behavior and you’ll keep getting more of it in the future.

Sounds like you support McCarthy...In my opinion, anyone who votes or supports McCarthy is supporting the Swamp, ie...the world economic forum. Do you really think McCarthy will honor those concessions? If so you are part of the problem...Our Fore-Fathers would have killed these Traitors over 100 years ago.. and yet here we are. American have become fat and weak. Could you really look Benjamin Franklin in the eye and say you are protecting our Republic? I could!!

Mike, I have always loved your articles, but I don’t understand what has happened to you. I thought, after the final vote, you would see that maybe it was a good thing that some conservatives stood up against the status quo and fought for people like me, those I thought you represented when you were my governor. Obviously, I was wrong. You are now ranting and raving about how horrible these Freedom Caucus people are. You owe them and us an apology, but we will never get it because you have made it plain that you’re too important for that. Also, you talk about what the 20 demanded as if you were in the room with them. I remember when you condemned Adam Schiff for telling us facts that later were proven to be untrue. You, also, used to be above name calling. You condemned those who did this. What in the world has happened to you?

I've taken your newsletter as fact. No longer. I'm sorry that you did not take the time to dig deeper into the 21 reps who stood against McCarthy, a Rhino who has often betrayed Republicans in order to side with McConnel and the Dems.

These 21 individuals stood on their principles to fight to get conservative concessions from McCarthy. They have fought for and gained important concessions that will help all the conservatives in Congress to begin to actually accomplish something against the uniparty. I would suggest that you take time and talk with Steve Bannion and the 21 stalwart Reps with an open mind. Hear their story. You were wrong in your assessment. They are true patriots who have suffered greatly for their principles.

Now you know why Mitch McConnell didn't want Republicans winning the Senate.

10% can't rule over 90%? Like BLM, woke, the two party system? Unions have the shout down that democrats love. Republicans maybe the 90 are just too partyish? Maybe their blood has coagulated because they are rubber stamps? Remember repeal and replace, me either, no repeal no replace.

Time to stop this foolishness. Anyone who does not vote for McCarthy, gets nothing. Anyone who votes for the other party is banished.

Mr. Huckabee, I normally am in complete agreement with you. This time, I totally disagree. This holdout is about the makeup of the Committees. McCarthy crosses the aisle very easily. We do need concessions from him regarding Committee makeup. Especially after the Senate Republicans signed on to the pillage and rape democrat Bill to brake our economy. We do need people on the committees to slam the door on such destructive actions rather than waving the white flag of surrender.
I admire their resolve to represent the constituents that sent them to protect and adhere to Constitutional law.
All this money that is pouring out to other countries and the flood of unvaccinated illegal aliens into our country is all part of the destroy the USA to speed up the One World Government movement.
I want Constitutionalists on all the Committees.

After watching up to #10, it seems that there is mistrust involved in a lot of the negative vibes. It seems too demanding and selfish for him to withdraw.

This is one of the few times I disagree with your assessment. The passage of the omnibus bill was the last straw, proving current leadership could not be trusted to stand up to the Democrats. Remember, even in the minority the Democrats refused to give an inch. I doubt the last paragraph truly reflects the foundational reason for their oposition to McCarthy as I have read of other explanations for their decision. For years the conservative brach has been as poorly treated by the Republican leadership as the minorities have been with the Democrats. It is encouraging to see them take a stand. I hope, in the future, more will stand for the rights of the J6 prisoners. Whether you agree or not with why they were there, to know that our government has moved into the realm of holding political prisoners without due process, right to counsel and keeping them in inhumane conditions is a warning. Perhaps you agree they should be punished. Perhaps in the future they will decide we need to be punished. The rule of law must be for all regardless of status, wealth or political affiliation. My article on this topic is up on American Thinker - Championing the Republican Holdouts.

Governor, perhaps you will have more influence over this situation than any American citizen who voted the Republicans into control of the House. Please remind the House Republicans that they were given this majority to be a block to the radical democrats and their America destroying agenda. What the republicans are currently doing is unacceptable to the citizens who voted them into the majority. They are destroying their own legitimacy by continuing to fight amongst themselves giving the democrats ammunition for the next election.
