After six votes Wednesday, holdouts were still refusing to back Rep. Kevin McCarthy, and the House voted to adjourn and reconvene later today. Reports are that negotiations continued last night with some possible progress. The New York Times, citing confidential sources, claims that McCarthy “privately agreed to more demands from the right-wing rebels that he had previously refused to countenance, including allowing a single lawmaker to force a snap vote at any time to oust him from the speakership.”

McCarthy has offered an astounding number of concessions, listed here by Victoria Taft at PJ Media.

The Club For Growth has also reportedly cut a deal with a super PAC associated with McCarthy that could result in them endorsing him as Speaker.

Fox News has comments from Florida Rep. Byron Donalds, the latest alternative proposed for McCarthy.

As noted in the article, until there’s a Speaker, the new House can’t even be sworn in, so this is preventing necessary action from being taken on many fronts.

McCarthy’s detractors still have no alternative candidate who is more conservative and can attract enough votes to win. They keep pointing to the last time conservatives forced McCarthy to withdraw in 2015, but back then, a dark horse “unity” candidate stepped forward and won. Considering that was Paul Ryan, whom they now vilify as a squishy, Trump-hating RINO, it’s not exactly a ringing endorsement for this strategy.

This is a continuing (and continuing!) story, so keep checking the regularly updated Fox News feed for the latest developments.

One thing to note:  While the 10% wants to rule over the 90% (who has ever allowed that or thought it was the way elections work?), it’s revealing that some of the holdouts have said in interviews that what they are “demanding” of Kevin McCarthy is that they get choice committee assignments and a promise they won’t be punished for their attempted coup.  That’s not only delusional, but very telling.  If a person is objecting by sheer principle, one is willing to suffer whatever the consequences for the rebellion.  When a person says, “Hey, this is about ME…protecting MY position, MY role in leadership, and MY being able to take any shot I want at 90% of my colleagues and have no consequence other than being rewarded.”  THAT my friend is NOT acting on “principle.”  It’s a selfish act of a power grab and publicity stunt.  Reward THAT behavior and you’ll keep getting more of it in the future.

At this point, Kevin McCarthy may be getting the wrath of the Republicans who have felt unsupported and mislead. These Republican (myself included) are very tired of “Business as Usual.” It was Kevin McCarthy who told us of the upcoming Red Wave and instead we got a Red Trickle. There was a lot of “Big Talk” before the election. No one wants to discuss Election Integrity!!!! Having Congress do nothing for a while is really OK.

I ask these "demanding" reps, "How is what you are doing better for all conservative constituents you supposedly represent than Biden's actions? You are not listening. We want Pelosi out and McCarthy in. Period. No sleight of hand back-door deals!!!

Business as usual. I have yet to see any of them actually working to better the country, it's all about them and what power they can grab.

As a tax paying American citizen I am fed up with this garbage. Tell those crybabies to get out of the way and get things done or get out of office. They don't deserve to be there. And if they're demanding assignments then they definitely need to quit. Enough is enough! Shut up and get out or stand up and do the right thing!
They're going to keep acting like children they need to go back to the playground where they belong, because they don't belong in office like an adult should be!
Yes, I'm mad as hell about this. This is the stupidest display of jackassedness I have ever seen in my life. Tearing the Republican party apart so the Democrats can take over and be socialists and make a communist country out of this United States of America. How stupid do they want to get? Maybe I should quit asking that question because they're taking it as a challenge! And I would love for this comment to go straight to the House of Representatives so they can hear the anger out of their constituents!

I'm not sure I trust Kevin either, but I sure don't trust several others that have been in government so long that they have forgotten who sent them there in the first place. We could all vote for some of those people from other states am sure some of us would be happy to send them home. At this date in time we need to get over petty difference and move to the government in the right direction. A lot of the people have the time to bring in names of people they preferred months ago and didn't so show some backbone, get over your whining and not getting your way, move on, if you can't then you need to get out of government.

Governor Huckabee, thank you for your continued wisdom & very insightful articles. As a local Hendersonville pastor I have enjoyed participating in your audience with members of our church & you never disappoint. Blessings to you!

I think the 10% are actually trying to clean up the swamp. Our Republican leadership has done nothing to stop the Biden budget mess. Both in the House and Senate. Thank you

I am so disappointed in the 20 Republicans holding our government hostage. They are preventing a safe and good government from their jobs and the American people are disgusted with them. They don’t demand and change the goal posts for their egos. They work for the people
