Juneteenth
Today is Juneteenth, a holiday that began in Texas and was recently declared a federal holiday by President Biden. Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation making the slaves free under US law on January 1, 1863, but Juneteenth marks the anniversary of Union General Gordon Granger issuing an order in Galveston on June 19, 1865, declaring freedom for the slaves in Texas, making them the final slaves to learn that they were free.
So if you celebrate Juneteenth, then have a happy and safe one. But some black Americans aren’t pleased with the attempts to co-opt and mainstream this holiday. They fear Juneteenth will go from being the black people’s Fourth of July to another commercialized event like “Pride Month” where white “progressives” buy tacky Juneteenth merchandise at Target to virtue-signal their wokeness.
Rick Moran at PJ Media has more on that, along with the observation that if Juneteenth does become hopelessly commercialized and stripped of all its meaning, then it truly will have become a 100% American holiday.
Sort of Related: Target faced backlash for pushing all that “Pride Month” merchandise (especially the “tucking swimsuits” for little boys), and then even worse backlash from radical trans activists for moving it to the back of the store. But Monica Showalter at American Thinker asks a question that nobody else has brought up in all the debates over that stuff: Is anyone actually buying it? The answer appears to be “no.”
She visited several Targets and took some photos that suggest that “Pride Month” stuff is gathering more dust than “Star Wars” sequel toys. She notes that this is in San Diego, a light blue city, the kind of place where you might expect it to sell. In red states, you’d expect that nobody would buy this stuff (or any other Target merchandise), and in deep blue cities, all the Targets have moved out because of the theft.
Although I’d love to see some photos of the last Target left in San Francisco. It would be funny if everything in it had been stolen except for the completely untouched "Pride Month" merchandise.
Lawsuit filed
California 18-year-old Layla Jane is suing Kaiser Permanente Medical Group and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals for performing a double mastectomy on her when she was 13 after she was convinced that she was transgender and had to become male. She says she was struggling with mental health issues, including suicidal thoughts, but instead of treating her for that, the doctors pushed her to gender transition. She’s accusing the hospital system of "intentional fraud and concealment,” in telling her that if she didn’t do it, she’d likely commit suicide; and telling her parents they had a choice between having a live son or a dead daughter.
Her attorney, Harmeet Dhillon, represents another detransitioner who says that same “live son/dead daughter” language was used on her parents, so she suspects they’re just following a script.
Jane now suffers from both physical and emotional problems caused by the unnecessary surgery. She told Laura Ingraham, "I don't think I should've been allowed to change my sex before I was legally able to have sex. I don't think I'm better off for the experience, and I think transitioning just completely added fuel to the fire that was my pre-existing conditions." Dhillon added, "It is impossible for a child to give informed consent, and it is impossible for parents who are not fully informed and with a child that was not properly treated [cannot] also give that consent."
I’m normally not a big fan of lawsuits, but I hope to see a lot more like this one. Too many medical practitioners have let themselves be corrupted by either fear of the radical trans movement or the siren song of big profits from unnecessary surgery and the lifetime of post-operative care needed to deal with it. But nothing forces someone to reassess their bad ideas like a tsunami of big, fat lawsuits.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken was in China over the weekend, attempting to improve relations between the US and China. But judging by his underwhelming welcome and the comments from China’s President Xi Jinping, China thinks it’s the leader of the world and we have to follow its orders…
…And I wonder where they got that idea?
A chilling IRS, ATF raid in Montana
Maybe this is why the IRS needed all those new agents who were trained in carrying weapons and those giant stockpiles of ammo. Last week in Great Falls, Montana, nearly two dozen heavily-armed IRS and ATF agents in bulletproof vests and tactical gear raided the Highwood Creek Outfitters gun store as the owner was arriving to open shop for the day.
It’s unclear why there was a need for the raid, or for so much firepower, or why the IRS was part of it at all. The store sells AR-15 and AK-47 semi-automatic rifles, but does so legally. The IRS agents seized background check forms which contain the personal information of gun buyers, but no financial information that should be the only concern of the IRS. The shop owner said all he was told was that his business had been “reported,” but not by whom or for what. He said, “The current administration seems to be hell bent on getting those guns out of the hands of average Americans.”
Montana Rep. Matt Rosendale is demanding to know the rationale for this guns-drawn raid on a legal business, and for a similar one recently on a gun store in Georgia, but so far, no response.
May I just add that if the Biden DOJ is looking for someone they can prosecute for lying on a background check to obtain a gun, I have a name I can report to them: Hunter Biden.
New Poll: 55% believe Trump indictment is politically motivated
A new Harvard/Harris poll found that 55% of Americans believe the indictment of Donald Trump is politically motivated, 56% consider it “election interference” and only 44% see it as a fair application of the law. The poll also found that 65% believe Biden mishandled classified information and 72% believe Hillary Clinton did.
However, the election interference appears to be working, at least so far. A Quinnipiac poll taken after the indictment of former President Trump shows Biden leading him 48-44 percent. Considering the other poll, plus the A-B comparisons of their Administrations, it’s a little shocking to me that Biden would be leading Trump. But just the fact that it’s within the margin of error and not a Biden blowout absolutely shocked Jonathan Karl and his bubble-dwelling panelists on ABC’s “This Week.”
Former DNC head Donna Brazile, who is what ABC thinks of as an unbiased news commentator, claimed that Biden has a sterling record of achievements (he personally created 13 million jobs!), and said the poll shows that “the country is very divided.”
That’s funny, I’d say that it shows the country is very misled, by people like this who are supposed to be journalists. Maybe if they devoted even five minutes a week to informing their viewers of the relentless campaign of lies and sabotage against Trump of which this is the latest salvo; or how shocking and unprecedented it is for a President to weaponize the justice system against his leading political opponent; or about how Joe Biden has been such a lousy President that any random armadillo could have done a better job (including one run over by a semi), that poll would not be within the margin of error.
More climate spending
President Biden will be in Palo Alto, California, today, announcing plans to spend another $600 million of our money on “climate change.” This time, it’s to protect the coastline from “sea level rise, tidal flooding, hurricanes, storm surge, among other severe climate impacts.” This will come as welcome news to all the rich climate change activists like Al Gore and Barack Obama who keep buying multi-million-dollar beachfront estates.

The 'Rainbow Underground Railroad”
Just like women, black Americans are learning that they’re being thrown under the bus by the Democratic Party in favor of their new chosen identity groups, illegal immigrants and LGBTQ-M-O-U-S-E+++ people. And just as women are finally speaking up about how offensive it is to have men modeling bras and telling them what it means to be a woman, blacks are not too happy about trans activists co-opting slavery terms to describe how oppressed they are.

That story also mentions one of the silliest and most offensive business ideas I’ve heard in quite a while. A real estate broker in Dallas has started what he’s calling the 'Rainbow Underground Railroad,” to help people quietly flee states like Texas that are banning the chemical and surgical mutilation of children and move to blue states that are just fine with that.
That’s offensive both to black Americans and to anyone with a lick of intelligence. First of all, you don’t have to “quietly” move out of Texas on an “underground railroad.” Nobody cares! Just put your house up for sale and go. You’re lucky in that it will probably sell immediately to someone fleeing a blue state. And U-Haul will practically pay you to drive one of their trucks back to California.
One warning, though: try to get a really good price for your house because with all the new taxes and fees you’ll be paying, plus inflated housing prices, the higher cost of living and all the criminals stealing everything you own, you might find yourself too poor to afford surgery to mutilate your child. And what a tragedy that would be.

Durham testifies tomorrow; today, a look at “Jack-the Ripper” Smith
We’ve looked at the career of Special Counsel Jack Smith --- the federal attorney chosen by Attorney General Merrick Garland out of all the possible candidates to investigate Trump --- recently in this newsletter, concluding that if Garland were out to “get Trump” (surely not!) Smith would be his go-to guy.
Mark Levin, on Sunday’s LIFE, LIBERTY & LEVIN, did a similar examination and came to the same conclusion. Levin calls him “Jack-the-Ripper Smith.”
Smith laughably used to head the Public Integrity Section of the Criminal Division at the ‘Justice’ Department, and it was there that he had two major defeats in court. One, in 2016, was former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell’s conviction on corruption charges, which was overturned 8-0 (one justice recused) by the Supreme Court. “Justice” came a little late for McDonnell, however; his life had been ruined.
The justices ruled that federal prosecutors had relied on a “boundless” definition of the kinds of acts that could lead politicians to face criminal charges. Wow, since Trump entered politics, this seems par for the course, doesn’t it? And Smith is playing by the same playbook he used back then.
As Levin explained, “[Smith] takes a bribery statute, and expands it so preposterously, that even the Supreme Court says, ‘You can’t do this.’”
Quoting from POLITICO, “The justices set up a straightforward rule: ‘Setting up a meeting, calling another public official, or hosting an event does not, standing alone, qualify as an ‘official act [in return for a favor].’”
The other spectacular failure was Smith’s prosecution of former presidential candidate John Edwards, stemming from when he was in the 2008 presidential primaries running against Obama and Hillary. It was a sleazy story that stemmed from Edwards having a mistress who became pregnant, but the part Smith was prosecuting had to do with Edwards and/or his people asking donors to contribute money to help put up the mistress is an apartment and try to keep the story under wraps. Just a sordid mess all around, but it wasn’t a crime under the Federal Election Code. Smith essentially re-wrote the statute, trying to say this was campaign money simply because it helped Edwards’ image while he was running for President. The jurors concluded that “there wasn’t enough evidence there” to convict Edwards on an Election Code violation.
This is similar to what Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg did to try to say President Trump violated election law with payments to Stormy Daniels.
After the Edwards defeat, Levin said, “they shipped him off to the Hague, where he could chase down genocidal maniacs.”
But Levin brought up something in the timeline that hadn’t been evident to us: namely, that before he was sent to Europe, he was the acting U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee (Nashville), the heir to the position of U.S. attorney. When Trump became President in January 2017, he passed over Smith as U.S. attorney and went with someone else. Smith was so displeased by this, he resigned.
And now Smith, of all people, is the one prosecuting Trump, chosen by Merrick Garland, who, in turn, surely blames Trump for keeping him off the Supreme Court. See anything wrong with this picture?
Smith is using the Espionage Act of 1917, which was not intended for this purpose. He went with it because the Presidential Records Act, passed in 1978 and instituted in 1981, carries only a civil penalty, not criminal. LBJ was found to have directed his staff to hide top-secret information relating to the Vietnam War and illegal taps on President Nixon’s phones, but the Espionage Act was never invoked. But it was in President Trump’s case, because Smith is trying to maneuver him into prison.
The Presidential Records Act wouldn’t even apply to Hillary, as she was Secretary of State, but “no reasonable prosecutor” went after her on the Espionage Act. Hillary deliberately bypassed the government’s security system for her own communications, most likely to avoid the scrutiny of FOIA requests, and President Obama had to be aware of this. Also, as you know, they never even went after her on obstruction, though she destroyed thousands of subpoenaed records.
Smith was wrong to impanel a grand jury on this documents case. Even more serious, he should never have used the “crime-fraud exception” to violate attorney-client privilege and make Trump’s lawyers testify about their privileged conversations. (HIs lawyers had to withdraw from the case after being made witnesses.) There should never have been a warrant to raid Mar-A-Lago; recall that the FBI agents did not think this was necessary but were ordered to do it.
Levin had a question for Garland, Barr and all former attorneys general: “Did you ever read classified information in your vehicle when your driver was taking you from home to work at the Justice Department and back? Because if you did, you violated the Espionage Act.” But, as THE NEW YORK TIMES said on January 27, the Archives have no independent ability to enforce this.
The big guns at DOJ would have to be brought in, and they never have been until it was President Trump. Recall that Biden had to sign off on that, too.

The DOJ has responded to the request by the House Judiciary Committee for information on the Mar-A-Lago raid and, specifically, the classified materials that were retrieved in the search. This would also have included communications between the FBI’s DC field office and the U.S. Secret Service. They also wanted such basic information as who is working on Special Counsel Jack Smith’s team. Needless to say, the DOJ rejected the request. Read this and know how totally fed up you would be if you were Jim Jordan right now.

REVOLVER NEWS made a good point about what Smith is doing to make it appear as though he’s “going easy” on Trump. THE NEW YORK TIMES was able to report that “Jack Smith...opted not to request conditions routinely imposed on other defendants seeking to be released from custody, like cash bail, limits on domestic travel or turning in his passport.” Our recommendation of this article comes with a major Sarcasm Alert.
Investigative reporter Paul Sperry has looked at the FBI division behind the Mar-A-Lago raid and sees that it includes people, such as Brian Auten, who were in on the beginning of “Crossfire Hurricane” and helped create and spread the Russia Hoax. This is the case even though they are still purportedly “under disciplinary review.” The FBI declined to answer any questions about this.
Sources told Sperry that dozens of boxes and containers were taken from Trump’s residence, “very few of which actually contained classified information.” (That’s why those pictures the FBI released of boxes stacked in rooms mean NOTHING.) Sperry includes details about the scope of the raid that haven’t been widely reported. And two officials in particular, counterintelligence supervisor Jay Bratt and his predecessor in that job, David Laufman, are as partisan as it gets. Highly recommended reading.

Moving to Biden and HIS classified documents, James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, reveals that Joe Biden’s assistant Kathy Chung provided testimony that “undermines the White House testimony on the matter.” Boxes including classified documents were moved to three different locations around the Washington DC area, transported by personal vehicles. Once they got to the Penn Biden Center, they were NOT kept in a locked closet but were accessible to employees and others with access to the office space.
Biden’s attorneys have said that some of the documents they found were labeled “top secret” and related to Iran and Ukraine. (Biden, as U.S. Senator and then VP, would not have had the authority to declassify them.)

Hunter Biden is having to give answers about his finances to the judge in his child support case in Arkansas. Considering everything his family is trying to keep under wraps, he might’ve been better off just paying the $20,000 a month for his daughter’s support. Couldn’t he just sell a painting (a tiny one) or get his “sugar brother” in L.A. to pay it?
One more on the Bidens and Burisma: Emails from Hunter’s laptop show that an associate of Burisma founder Mykola Zlochevsky, who allegedly paid Joe and Biden each $5 million, opened a Maltese bank account for Hunter, with help from Hunter’s assistant Joan Mayer.
The bank, Satabank, closed in 2018 because of money laundering violations.

The sycophants at Axios have outdone themselves
The Democrat sycophants at Axios.com embarrassed themselves with their latest attempt to convince us that Republicans are overreacting to President Biden’s baffling incoherence. They argued that when he ended a speech by saying, “God save the queen,” that's just one of his “quirky,” “old-fashioned” aphorisms that he’s used all his life.

I enjoy a good archaic bit of slang as much as the next fellow (I think they’re the cat’s pajamas), but here’s the problem: No American has ever used the quirky aphorism, “God save the queen.” Not unless you go back to before 1776, and not even Joe Biden is that old.
I eagerly await Axios’ defense of John Fetterman’s colorful and original rearrangements of words that are just too creative for Republicans to understand.
