You’ve heard the expression, “A little child shall lead them”? Well, it’s too bad that school officials and a federal judge in California (naturally) don’t have the sense that a first-grader does.

At a school in the Capistrano Unified School District, during a lesson on “Black Lives Matter” (obviously, something that should be pushed in first grade – remember, I told you this was California), a student tried to cheer up a classmate of color by drawing a beautiful picture for her. It showed circles of different colors to represent her and three classmates holding hands and was captioned, “All lives matter.” The classmate thanked her friend for the drawing and took it home. And that’s when the bovine excrement hit the leftist fan.

Somehow, this sweet gesture of colorblind friendship came to the attention of school principal Jesus Becerra, who declared it “racist” and “inappropriate,” said the words “any life” were “inconsistent with values taught in the school,” and while admitting the motives were innocent, submitted the child for punishment anyway – over the objections of the parents of the student who received the picture.

The child’s mother filed a lawsuit, but the judge ruled against her, finding that because the child was only in first grade, First Amendment rights didn’t apply, as schools have the right to restrict speech that “might reasonably lead school authorities to forecast substantial disruption of or material interference with school activities” or that collides “with the rights of other students to be secure and let alone.” So now, saying that “any life matters” is somehow threatening and disruptive. What a horrible thing to teach first graders.

If I were a parent whose children were in that school, I would use my First Amendment rights to demand that the principal not only allow the obviously true words that “any lives matter” to be spoken in the school, but that he also hear these two words: “You’re fired.”
