Controversial comedian (and by that, I mean, “says true things powerful people don’t like,” which used to just mean, “comedian”) Ricky Gervais believes that the ratings implosion of TV awards shows isn’t due to pandemic downsizing, since even the ones that still have big stars and production numbers are cratering. Gervais blamed the audience tune-out on all the PC wokeism and leftist politics.

https://dailycaller.com/2022/01/12/ricky-gervais-awards-shows-suffering-people-sick-virtue-signalling

Gervais pulled big ratings when he hosted the Golden Globes, but while his gleeful mockery of Hollywood hypocrites was loved by viewers, it ticked off the celebrities, so he was replaced. Since then, the Globes have gone from one of the most star-studded nights in Hollywood to a Twitter thread announcing the winners that hardly anyone noticed. This was largely because of attacks on the awards organization, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, for not being diverse enough. But that was hardly the reason that TV audiences gave up on it.

Writing in the British newspaper The Sun, Gervais said people “just got sick of virtue signaling…The people with nothing became tired of being lectured by people who had everything…They think, ‘Why are these people lecturing me? They’re going?? to an awards ceremony in a limo and are telling me to recycle?'”

Assessing the damage woke virtue signaling has done to Hollywood’s image, Gervais wrote, “The first time I did it, ten years ago, everyone was like, ‘Ah, how can you talk to these wonderful multi-millionaires, how can you talk to these beautiful people, like that? We love celebrities.' By the last one it was like, ‘God, give it to them, we hate celebrities!'”

Gervais said you can’t predict the future, and maybe awards shows will enjoy a return to popularity. But I doubt it. If Hollywood can’t even figure out that they shouldn’t spend hundreds of millions of dollars making movies that insult America and expect Americans to pay to see them (they don’t, by the way), or hire stars who spew hatred of half of Americans on Twitter and fire those who defend them, what are the odds that anyone will ever want to watch them give themselves awards for doing that?

Personally, I am thrilled that the "Hollywood" movies and awards are not watched. They are filthy and brain-washing.

Why aren't more people (including on Fox) talking more about successful treatments? At this point, who cares about testing or where the virus came from (we know it came from the Wuhan lab and was funded by Fauci), but what difference does that matter at this point? (to quote Hillary). What we need now are readily available treatments. And doctors being able to prescribe those treatments without threats. Why are Ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine, etc. still being banned at pharmacies? Why don't we have enough monoclonals for everyone? Those are the real questions now. People are dying, not from lack of testing or proof of Wuhan lab leaks, but from lack of available treatments. We need to all get on the right page here!!

The elite have multi millions and have left those who were fans in their dust. Tom Hanks for example has dual citizenship in Greece but but opined about Joe B. We don’t care.

Great Take on the Elite Millionaires in HollyWEIRD telling the Deplorables how to live! I have only gone to one movie in the last 10 years- Thirteen Hours- and left in tears wondering WHY I spent 8 years of my life living up to the OATH, that has NO EXPIRATION DATE, to Protect and Defend?
I also gave up on Professional Football and Basketball for what I call the Colin Kaepernick effect.
Think of the MONEY I saved!!!

On another note, I loved AFTER LIFE...The ending left me needing to leave the room...I was profoundly saddened, angry, and finally resigned...How could it be any other way...Touched my heart, Ricky Gervais...BRAVO

I used to worry on how to combat the left. Now I realize the left is their own worst enemy. They destroy everything they touch. For example: defund the police.... this led to out of control crime in mostly minority neighborhoods. Well that didn't work out very well. While saying they are all for minorities they have actually harmed them. This didn't happen in red states. Where is the most minority poverty......blue states.....not republican ones. Where is it the worst.....blue states that have been under democrat control for 50 years. You know all these statues they have been tearing down have one thing in common that is never mentioned. They were all democrats........

That's okay I do not waste my time watching of these award shows to start with, all they are is a bunch of people say hay look at me see how much of a wonderful job I have done, and show off how much money they have by what they wear (or what they don't wear). They just about as self-center as you can get. Don't get me wrong there are some in Hollywood that are good folks, it's just that I can count them all on one hand.

I remember a few years ago that when Tom Hanks was asked some question about politics his reply was something like "I'm an actor, that's what I do. My feelings about politic or politicians has nothing to do with my profession and shouldn't" I admired him for that for many years until 3 nights ago he was doing a "How great Joe Biden has done since he became President, how great this year has been for the country, jobs, the economy etc. My respect and admiration for him was flushed down the toilet and I will never watch or see another movie he's in. I just wonder how much money he was paid or was it a freebie "public service" con job.

Mike, another thing I will never understand is how Hollywood is so against the 2nd Ammendment, yet make so many violent films. What ever happen to family entertainment?

Correct. He definitely knows. I don't need some rich, left wing nut lecturing to me about anything. De Niro and Arnold come to mind. Do they seriously think anyone cares what they think? ??
