On Friday, we featured a reader letter on the future of the Republican Party as it relates to President Trump and the way he’s handling –- or not handling –- this post-election moment. She felt that it’s time for Trump to step back.

Trump has been reacting wildly on social media (Truth Social now instead of Twitter) in the very style that at times has put off even some of his most ardent supporters, and newly incomprehensible as well. He’s coming off as vengeful and bitter, and that’s not a good look if he’s getting ready to announce another run for President.

Certainly the pressure was on him to provide the coattails for the GOP, especially for certain candidates he’d endorsed. And the outcome is turning out to be disappointing and uneven, given the expectations many of us had. Losing the House would have been a disaster in many ways, but at this writing, late Friday, we’re almost sure of taking it. Still, another disappointment has hit, as it was reported Friday that Democrat Sen. Mark Kelly, a reliable Biden rubber-stamper, will keep his seat, with a win over GOP candidate Blake Masters in Arizona.

Note:  In speaking of this apparent win, I’m setting aside for the moment the serious vote-counting issues in Arizona and Nevada, which are addressed elsewhere in the newsletter. On Friday, we also asked questions about the Maricopa County recorder’s office, which it seems has found a loophole in Arizona law to continue taking money from an organization funded by Mark Zuckerberg. There’s no reason to trust the election in Arizona when it’s this partisan and even run by none other than gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs, Kari Lake’s GOP opponent!

But, aside from that, it does appear that there was quite a red wave, much more, I'm sorry to say, than is apparent in the appropriation of actual seats. Aaron Kliegman reported for JUST THE NEWS that according to Cook Political Report, Republican actually won 52.3 percent of the total ballots cast, at least as of late November 10, with the Democrats coming in considerably lower at just 46.2 percent. We checked for an update early November 12, and Republicans were still in the lead, though their margin was a little narrower, 51.8 percent.

This report is updated regularly, so you can check here to see how we’re doing.

https://www.cookpolitical.com/charts/house-charts/national-house-vote-tracker/2022

Kliegman wrote: “It’s unclear at this point what explains the glaring incongruity between the GOP’s underwhelming performance in terms of winning seats on the one hand and its significant lead in the popular vote on the other.” That’s something to look at, certainly. But those overall percentages are at least something to celebrate --- and they’re no doubt very concerning to Democrats looking ahead to the next election.  Marc Elias must be lying awake nights coming up with more ideas for putting a thumb on the scale in 2024.

https://justthenews.com/politics-policy/elections/red-wave-after-all-gop-winning-popular-vote-wide-margin-despite

Certain races, however, particularly the Senate race in Pennsylvania where Trump-backed Dr. Mehmet Oz lost to cognitively-impaired far-leftist schlub John Fetterman, so irked President Trump that he took to his own social media platform, Truth Social, to say some extremely ill-advised things. The worst of all was his totally nonsensical jab at Virginia GOP Gov. Glenn Youngkin, which seems as though it might have been posted while Trump was under heavy medication. (One almost hopes we could find out that it was.) In a rant saying Youngkin wouldn’t have been able to win the governor’s race without him, he referred to the name Youngkin –- “Young Kin” –- as “sounding Chinese.”

This comment, seemingly from the planet Saturn, came on the heels of Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears’ remark that with these midterm election results, Trump should leave GOP politics. “A true leader understands when they have become a liability,” she told FOX NEWS on Thursday. “A true leader understands that it’s time to step off the stage, and the voters have given us that very clear message.”
Yes, that comment was surely upsetting fro Trump to hear.  But he reacted early Friday morning by taking that swipe at Youngkin, perhaps unwittingly proving Sears’ point.

Youngkin stayed above this. “Listen, you all know me,” he told reporters. “I do not call people names. I really work hard to bring people together...that’s not the way I roll and not the way I behave.”

The NEW YORK POST spoke to sources who had been around Trump as returns came in, and they didn’t paint a pretty picture. Trump had focused his ire on the increasingly popular GOP Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis when DeSantis had said nothing to provoke him, violating President Reagan’s “11th Commandment” about not speaking ill of others in the party. Trump succeeded only in making Republicans long for someone like Ronald Reagan at the helm of our party instead of what we have. And that makes the more measured DeSantis look even better.

https://nypost.com/2022/11/11/donald-trump-is-ranting-and-raving-over-lackluster-midterm-results-sources/

Given what Trump has been put through by his political enemies ever since he first announced he was running for President, it’s amazing he came through it in one piece. He is still standing after attempts on every front to destroy him, and we love him for that. But he needs to demonstrate for us that the saying, “What does not kill us makes us stronger,” is true in his case. (Research has shown that this is not generally true.) Trump needs to be stronger, not flailing. Wiser, not more emotional. More strategic, not more impulsive. If he has been weakened, if he is now more of a political liability, he’ll need to understand that it’s time to embark on another phase of life, outside of politics, for the good of the country he loves.

Given all that the left have done to try to take Trump out, how ironic would it be if they were able to just stand back now and let him do it to himself?

On the other hand, when Dan Bongino addressed this issue during his Friday podcast, he said he’s not worried that a primary contest between Trump and DeSantis will weaken the party. Judging from history, he believes this would strengthen it, no matter how much aggravation and airing of dirty laundry is involved. It’s good, he said, “because by the time you get to the general, all the dirty laundry’s been aired.” He also reminded us how hard Trump campaigned for Ron DeSantis in his first, very close election, saying that’s probably what placed him in the governor’s chair. He credited Trump for Florida’s move to “red.”

But Trump was certainly wrong, Bongino (who lives in Florida) said, to call DeSantis an “average” governor, when he is an excellent governor. “He took what Trump started,” he said, “and ran with it in the state of Florida.”

“The best approach right now is to slow down,” he cautioned. It should be about the party right now, and the races currently at stake. “There’s no rush,” he said; “there’ll be more than enough time to attack each other [on issues].’ He’s confident they’re “not gonna hurt each other” but strongly warns they must NOT make it personal, because voters will be deeply alienated by that. I would say this warning might have come too late for Trump, though, as we’re already seeing him alienate them.

What do you think? Here’s the podcast; his remarks on Trump/DeSantis start about 43 minutes in…

I would be very happy to see a Trump-DeSantes ticket for President in 24. The media jumped on Trump and he was fighting back. He’s certainly been through hell and back and still standing. We are blessed to have two good men running that are unbeatable. Get those elite Rhinos to stop trying to oust the whole MAGA pack.

  • Cathy MacArthur

    11/13/2022 12:56 AM

You all are doing exactly what the rinos and the left want you to do. You're generating a new 'group think' to put an end to Trump and that's going to permanently stain the party, and all your'alls legacy.
    Shameful.

  • Cathy MacArthur

    11/13/2022 12:49 AM

Take your issues with Trump directly to Trump. Don't exacerbate the issue by continuing the discussion on your social and in emails. Only the rinos and dems are doing that, and I'm hoping you're not a rino. It's screwing everything up - if he doesn't run, you're going to lose all the 'Trumpsters' viotes as they've been disappointed with the Republican party for decades now.
It's also dysfunctional. It's called Triangulation. I think the bible mentions that.
Get it together please - buzz on down to Florida with others and discuss it - WITH him. Unify your message.
And defend him, for God's sake. It's why he's doing what he's doing - nobody is giving him the credit that is long overdue.
Get out there on your platforms and make it be known what all he has done, and how he has been besmirched by the press, and worse, by fellow party members. It's abusive, and what you all are doing is so messed up.

First let me congratulate your daughter re Governor. She will do great for the people!

In response to what do I think about former President Trump in regard to post election results, I agree, that he needs to calm down, be quiet, take a step back, at least until the current elections have been completed & then perhaps indefinitely, as it's looking like that would be in the best interests of the party and America as a whole. Was he dealt an unfair hand from day 1? Yes. Was he unfairly targeted throughout his administration? Yes. Did his policies help America? Yes. Was the shake up he implemented a good thing? Yes. He laid out a great road map policy wise, for other leaders to take over the reigns. He showed back bone, which our all of our Representatives should have. There is so much water under the bridge though regarding him, which contributes to too much divisiveness within the party and America, that he should step aside. Many have been scratching their heads & trying to figure out what happened to the expected "Big Red Wave", what went wrong. I can't remember the author of the article, it was on the Epoch Times, under opinions - I believe, whose theory was that any Representative, who stood up against the Covid lockdowns, won their races, where the ones who did not stand up, or kept silent about it, then or on the campaign trail, (as it started under the Rep time watch) and those who followed the government & CDC/Fauci, like sheep, lost. I believe there is a lot to that theory. I still have hope for America and believe that God is in control. I also believe that Biden's "Student Loan Forgiveness" did buy a lot of young people's votes, along with too many of our youth being indoctrinated in our school systems. Mr. Trump needs to realize, there is no "I" in "team". It's not all about him. Yes, his words & actions are coming across as bitter & emotional.

    Hi Mike,
Just watched your TBN show tonight and read your news letter about Trump. I am so surprised that no one has asked Mike Lindell to come on their show to explain why the Red Wave did not happen!!! There was CHEATING ON ELECTION NIGHT and he and his group monitored the voting crime happening in real time. He showed how and why Hershel Walker lost and Dr. Oz. Why don't you have him on your show and look at what he found. Walker does not need more money he needs the EVIDENCE Lindell has to become public knowledge. No amount of money is going to send Walker to victory, he needs the voting crime in the machines EXPOSED. Please be a patriot and bring Lindell on your show TO HELP SAVE THIS COUNTRY! AS A CHRISTIAN MAN FOR TRUTH I don't know why you wouldn't do this. Please have Lindell on your show and discuss this crime when you appear on Fox (who covers up election fraud) and is ruining our Country. Fox has banned Dinish DeSousa- but he had the courage to expose the TRUTH. Even Kari Lake had the guts to tell Brett Baer to do his job and report the election crimes. Have the guts that Kari Lake has and expose ELECTION FRAUD that TRUMP EXPERIENCED IN 2020 and that we are having all over again in 2022. The Red Wave did not occur due to VOTING MACHINE CHEATING not because TRUMP screwed up. How would you like it if your daughter Sarah was cheated out of being Governor of Arkansas. Be a Patriot and spread Lindell's Evidence starting on your show.
Thanks for being a Truth Telling Christian.

Hi Mike, you are one of the few to carry the on-going travesty and injustices perpetrated on President Trump and some of those who follow him by the Obama-Pelosi-Biden cabal and the corrupt FBI/DOJ. As Christians we need to try hard not to be arrogant given the assault on truth something that Trump has yet to learn. We love him and his principles but cringe when he decides to be less than presidential and now to take jabs at Ron is tragic. They would be a tremendous ticket assuming Trump tried to "love" his enemies and return to the fight. With his recent comments he has lost that right. As for the election results, the Republican party itself is to blame. Let me give you an example from my home state of Illinois. We had a RINO who lost the DuPage County Chairmanship race robo call against the Republican candidate in favor of a Madigan machine backed politician out of Chicago. Which brings me to my final point as I/we continue to fight a losing battle in Illinois. Truth has lost due to the indoctrination of our young people by our education system (wish we could have choice to send our tax dollar to schools of our choice) and the high tech monopoly on social media and the news. Concomitantly, the Republicans don't have the backbone to stand for truth and point out the racist policies of the Democrats who's Mayor decades ago issued the "shoot to kill" order. Which party put African-Americans in high rise death trap housing in Chicago? What party advocates for abortion which impacts African Americans more than any other people group? And yet, Republicans are labeled as the extremists by their candidates saying we won't consider rape/incest/life of the Mother (Tammy Duckworth painted pro-life Cathy Salvi as the extremist in the WTTW/PBS debate- it was gut-wrenching to watch). If we could have every 8th grader see an abortion video we win the issue period and the progressive women and the young people who voted against Republicans would possibly change. Illinois has over 100,000 public servants mostly educators/administrators/government pension takers all over $100k/yr. We are the worst state in terms of fiscal matters. Our Governor is a Pharaoh and big proponent of transgenderism. But these two issues of racism and abortion could have been turned against the Democrats long ago in Chicago politics which is the epi-center of corruption in our country. Feel free to reply to my email but do not post this please. Thank you!

While I voted for Trump twice and admire the accomplishments his administration made in getting this nation back on track with its Constitutional foundation, I also came to realize that he is his own worst enemy. He gets suckered into fruitless fights and arguments that a wiser President would have pushed aside and walked past. I think of Reagan in this light. This weakness comes from him not being a politician and not understanding candidate Huckabee's statement that one does not go into politics if one is frightened at the sight of one's own blood. And now, as a potential candidate for the Presidency in 2024, we see how much baggage he carries with him from old battles still raging. While he is a victim in most, if not all, of these attacks on his character, they still have taken toll on him emotionally and physically. No one can endure that kind of pressure without significant impact on all areas of his health and emotional strength. That said, I think it would be best for the nation if he did NOT attempt another term as President, but would support someone such as DeSantis or Pompeo or even Pence should they declare. They all subscribe to his basic vision of a Constitutional America, reinstated personal freedoms, and protection from an overreaching and tyrannical socialist state.

I agree with all you say, and thank you for speaking an uncomfortable truth. As much as I would previously have supported a second term for Mr. Trump, that time is no longer. His (apparently uncontrollable) bent toward snark is becoming increasingly cringy, and his remarks about DeSantis are uncalled for. It’s time for him to find something else to work on.
(My apologies if this is a repeat; I think I may have accidentally erased an earlier attempt!)

Election 2024 Coverage

November 12, 2022

On Friday, we featured a reader letter on the future of the Republican Party as it relates to President Trump and the way he’s handling –- or not handling –- this post-election moment. She felt that it’s time for Trump to step back.

Trump has been reacting wildly on social media (Truth Social now instead of Twitter) in the very style that at times has put off even some of his most ardent supporters, and newly incomprehensible as well. He’s coming off as vengeful and bitter, and that’s not a good look if he’s getting ready to announce another run for President.

    |

You all are doing exactly what the rinos and the left want you to do. You're generating a new 'group think' to put an end to Trump and that's going to permanently stain the party, and all your'alls legacy.
      Shameful.

I agree with you Mike, Trump needs to think before he opens his mouth now. He brought us together at the beginning and revealed the Rinos amongst us but now he needs to cool his jets. Will I vote for him again?, not if Gov. DeSantis runs.
