I’m disgusted with a small and selfish group of Republicans who probably feel they are “Spartacus” but the movie best fitting them is “The Gang Who Couldn’t Shoot Straight.”

Several of these hold-outs (I should say “hold-ups”) are friends and I supported and campaigned for many.  I won’t be in the future.  The simple of rule of politics is that you take your stand, but if you don’t have enough following to lead, then recognize that you simply didn’t sell your ideas very well.  Less than 20 GOP members of Congress are stopping 200 of their fellow Republicans from getting about the business of investigating corruption in the White House, FBI, DOJ, and in Congress itself.  Instead, without being able to articulate a specific reason for their objections, they have blocked the election of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker and in so doing making the Republicans look like a bunch of 6 year olds who refuse to play unless the majority surrenders to the tantrums of the few.

Is Kevin McCarthy perfect?  Of course not.  But he has faithfully worked to recruit candidates, help fund them, and get them elected.  The ultimate outrage is that some he helped win and raised funds for now have shown they really DO think it’s about them and not the bigger principles of the conservative movement.

Dr. E. V. Hill, longtime CA pastor used to say “If you think you’re a leader and you look behind you and no one is following, you aren’t a leader—you’re just out for a walk.”  The actions of the petulant circle of “Never-Kevins” don’t amount to enough votes to get close to winning.  But they may have enough to make sure their own team loses.  These guys are setting fire to their own hosue, but they are arsonists who didn’t even have fire insurance.  The mission is just “burn it down.”  And in so doing, empowering the very Democrats some of us worked very hard to put in the minority.

We did NOT work to blow up our own opportunity to take on the Pelosi, Schiff, Nadler, and Squad team, but that’s the effect of the actions of the camera hungry Congress members who may deep down believe they are more “principled” than everyone else, but have shown a startling level of political immaturity.

If the tiny crowd of political tots can’t convince a majority of their peers to follow them off the cliff, they should have the self-awareness to admit they fired their best shot and simply missed the target.  Now it’s time to fight for the American people.  If after taking leadership, Kevin and company don’t deliver, you might be able to make a better case for lighting the fuse to the bomb to blow up the place.

Knowing that the 133 votes that it took to elect the longest-held out Speaker still resulted in the election of the same man they'd voted on 132 times before, I am made to think they should go ahead and elect McCarthy and get on with the business.
However, I think that very "getting on with the business" may be part of what has brought our country to the awful place where it now sits. I have a prayer group; and I've just put out request on it for prayer that God will move whomever and however many in whichever is the right direction to resolve this thing and get the House moving!

This is part of my frustration with the Republican Party - we keep giving the other side ammunition. If we can't seemingly run a party, how are we supposed to convince others we can run a country?

Lastly, a word of advice for when things settle - avoid the temptation to immediately open up investigations. Do something of substance first that benefits the American people. In short, perform first, pounce second.

I respect and admire you governor. However, I can’t agree with you on this for I feel that Mr. McCarthy is part of the swamp. It would be the same Republican Party of spineless lip movers.
We need leadership that will stand their ground against the democrats and play their game. If we stay with the status quo, our great country will continue to spiral down the ungodly abyss the democrats have created.

Your last paragraph says it plain and simple. They ALL need to be ADULTS we thought we were electing and do their JOB. Compromise can work miracles. This petulance is NOT acceptable.
No wonder nothing ever gets done by the Republicans. If this is an example of their STYLE, we are doomed and the DemoRats will take over everything.

I'm not sure if I think McCarthy is the best man for the job but I wish the Republicans had hashed this out between them before making a spectacle on the voting floor. When Biden came into office they had a stack of Executive Orders for him to sign right away and started working on their plan (Saul Alinsky's plan I should say).
Just as when we had the house before (Paul Ryan as speaker) and hoped to change the Obama unaffordable health care we came in with no plan and no solidarity and everything whimpered out. I'm very frustrated especially as I moved here from England for a better life with less government control and less union control but we seem to be heading in the same socialist direction.
Thank you for keeping us informed and congratulations to your wonderful daughter - maybe we need to move across the Texas border to Arkansas!

Not only are the hold out "hold-ups" making the GOP look foolish, now they have succeeded in giving fodder for the media to attack President Trump and make him look like he no longer has any influence.

G alaovernor , I voted for you and just because you didn't win, doesn't mean your views and positions were incorrect. In the case of Kevin McCarthy some of his positions are wrong, and if enacted would do further damage to the republic. Take amnesty for illegal aliens. He can't wait to cut a deal with the Dems and then pose as a great conciliatory figure, ala. a Abimelech,Judges9,"Give me dominion over your lives; andI will simplify your existence" first Democrat in the bible

    Dear Sir,
The biggest problem is that McCarthy is a cheat, a liar, an apologist, and a dyed-in-the-wool RINO. https://www.instagram.com/reel/Clpc0HvDMRr/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&fbclid=IwAR3tf_J-ejScWTYPzd7qvMrh9WEEwC6yMa3euJlDn9x9WJPa78AVJiD3Sc8 He, like McConnell, Romney, and many others in Congress actually believe (or prove so by their actions) that the rest of us hoi polloi are servants to their almighty will, that they can use their offices to cut deals and become independently wealthy - Democrat AND Republican. I am so sick of the RINOs buddying up with the liberals and pretending that they are two different entities.

You might not like the bus driver but if it's going the right direction, take the ride.

Thank you for this article! I couldn't agree more. I have been saying and I believe it to my core, these hold out members have zeal without wisdom and desire without honor. And they are too arrogant to learn. Others of them, display the same hate for McCarthy that much of the world has for Israel. It is without rhyme or reason; and only because he/she/it/Israel exists. (insert McCarthy)
