I’m disgusted with a small and selfish group of Republicans who probably feel they are “Spartacus” but the movie best fitting them is “The Gang Who Couldn’t Shoot Straight.”

Several of these hold-outs (I should say “hold-ups”) are friends and I supported and campaigned for many.  I won’t be in the future.  The simple of rule of politics is that you take your stand, but if you don’t have enough following to lead, then recognize that you simply didn’t sell your ideas very well.  Less than 20 GOP members of Congress are stopping 200 of their fellow Republicans from getting about the business of investigating corruption in the White House, FBI, DOJ, and in Congress itself.  Instead, without being able to articulate a specific reason for their objections, they have blocked the election of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker and in so doing making the Republicans look like a bunch of 6 year olds who refuse to play unless the majority surrenders to the tantrums of the few.

Is Kevin McCarthy perfect?  Of course not.  But he has faithfully worked to recruit candidates, help fund them, and get them elected.  The ultimate outrage is that some he helped win and raised funds for now have shown they really DO think it’s about them and not the bigger principles of the conservative movement.

Dr. E. V. Hill, longtime CA pastor used to say “If you think you’re a leader and you look behind you and no one is following, you aren’t a leader—you’re just out for a walk.”  The actions of the petulant circle of “Never-Kevins” don’t amount to enough votes to get close to winning.  But they may have enough to make sure their own team loses.  These guys are setting fire to their own hosue, but they are arsonists who didn’t even have fire insurance.  The mission is just “burn it down.”  And in so doing, empowering the very Democrats some of us worked very hard to put in the minority.

We did NOT work to blow up our own opportunity to take on the Pelosi, Schiff, Nadler, and Squad team, but that’s the effect of the actions of the camera hungry Congress members who may deep down believe they are more “principled” than everyone else, but have shown a startling level of political immaturity.

If the tiny crowd of political tots can’t convince a majority of their peers to follow them off the cliff, they should have the self-awareness to admit they fired their best shot and simply missed the target.  Now it’s time to fight for the American people.  If after taking leadership, Kevin and company don’t deliver, you might be able to make a better case for lighting the fuse to the bomb to blow up the place.

Mr. Huckabee, I have been a Conservative Republican all my life. While I agree that turning the House over to Mt. Jeffries is a big mistake it appears to me that the present GOP folks forgot how to come together to lead this country out of the mess the Democrats have taken us into. Perhaps those who can't understand that no one is perfect and we need to select someone that is willing and mostly capable to do the job need a to learn a very harsh lesson. I read that some of them are already negotiating with the Dems to find an compromise Speaker. They will get what the Dems want and loose what ever power they achieved in the elections. Therefore, even if I hate to say it, they should let Mr. Jefferies become Speaker and learn that sometimes you need to now when to quite fighting and move forward for the good of all.

95% of the time I agree with you but this is part of the 5% that I don't. McCarthy is an establishment RHINO that is no where near conservative nor should be House Leader. I totally agree with the "patriots" that are putting the US first and not the DC establishment!! However, I do agree with you that they needed to have a candidate that was willing to do the job before going through all of this. McCarthy needs to step down and we need to have a leader that will fight for the American people!

The single greatest enemy of the United States is the U.S. Congress. They have done more damage to Americans than any other foe, foreign or domestic.

Disappointed at your concession to RINO McCarthy for Speaker, Guv'ner, there are better qualified R's out there. To take the "best" offer, is like getting half of what you were paying for. That's one of the faults of the Republicans, settling for less than what it takes to fight for their constituents and our country. Personally, I feel that McCarthy might turn out to be another Paul Ryan, who did nothing for Republican voters. Just my opinion.

I support Kevin McCarthy. I am disgusted with the 20 also. Several Senators (you know who they are) kept Trump from getting some of his ideas through, and I will not forget, especially Romney, whom I voted for, but never will again. "Petulant" is a good word for them. This is exactly why Democrats succeed more than Republicans. Thank you for your article!

Those "hold-ups" are a prime reason I say this country has become self-centered! This un- Unity we are see taking place in the house to day is just a spill over from November. They are showing how self-center they are, and there is no doubt they have their hands in the cookie jar stand to loose a lot if McCarthy becomes Speaker of the House. Those constituentsby who voted for them need to be burning up all means of communications of getting a hold of them and let them know they made a very big mistake! What they need to do his have a recall for each one of them, the sooner they are of office the better this country would be. For all they will do is just stand against the people, if done lets hope it does not end up like it did when a recall for Cal. governor. This just reinforce why me need Term Limits! It is like I have been saying for a long time now, sacrifice made this country great, selfless will take this country down! There is no doubt the American people need to declare war on the Federal government, through voting. This is the only way We the People can set this country back on course is we do it our self, and this past November so the people are not willing to do it! Don't get we wrong there are a lot of good hard working people in this country trying to do just that, there is to many others who are self-center! Let me end this with a quote from Abraham Lincoln "America will never be destroyed from the outside. If falter and lose our freedom, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

Thank you. Finally, a Republican who is talking good sense. I am an independent conservative. The rump Republicans are trying to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. History will remember them as children throwing tantrums.

"political tots"... I like you. I like MGT. I like Trump. I want to like FOX News, but... You're burning what political capital you have siding with "the establishment". Kevin has burned a few too many bridges and doesn't have the votes. The MAGA base really doesn't want him. He's McConnel lite. Force the same failed leaders down our throats, and we will "check out".

I've always voted for Republicans. I voted for Bob Dole! Bob Dole!! If the GOP doesn't change, I will vote where my heart really lies ... Libertarian. This GOP establishment needs to go, or there will be a third party which only benefits the Democrats and eventually this country will collapse. I'm done compromising my values to support GOP politicians that can't be counted on when it matters.
