I’m disgusted with a small and selfish group of Republicans who probably feel they are “Spartacus” but the movie best fitting them is “The Gang Who Couldn’t Shoot Straight.”

Several of these hold-outs (I should say “hold-ups”) are friends and I supported and campaigned for many.  I won’t be in the future.  The simple of rule of politics is that you take your stand, but if you don’t have enough following to lead, then recognize that you simply didn’t sell your ideas very well.  Less than 20 GOP members of Congress are stopping 200 of their fellow Republicans from getting about the business of investigating corruption in the White House, FBI, DOJ, and in Congress itself.  Instead, without being able to articulate a specific reason for their objections, they have blocked the election of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker and in so doing making the Republicans look like a bunch of 6 year olds who refuse to play unless the majority surrenders to the tantrums of the few.

Is Kevin McCarthy perfect?  Of course not.  But he has faithfully worked to recruit candidates, help fund them, and get them elected.  The ultimate outrage is that some he helped win and raised funds for now have shown they really DO think it’s about them and not the bigger principles of the conservative movement.

Dr. E. V. Hill, longtime CA pastor used to say “If you think you’re a leader and you look behind you and no one is following, you aren’t a leader—you’re just out for a walk.”  The actions of the petulant circle of “Never-Kevins” don’t amount to enough votes to get close to winning.  But they may have enough to make sure their own team loses.  These guys are setting fire to their own hosue, but they are arsonists who didn’t even have fire insurance.  The mission is just “burn it down.”  And in so doing, empowering the very Democrats some of us worked very hard to put in the minority.

We did NOT work to blow up our own opportunity to take on the Pelosi, Schiff, Nadler, and Squad team, but that’s the effect of the actions of the camera hungry Congress members who may deep down believe they are more “principled” than everyone else, but have shown a startling level of political immaturity.

If the tiny crowd of political tots can’t convince a majority of their peers to follow them off the cliff, they should have the self-awareness to admit they fired their best shot and simply missed the target.  Now it’s time to fight for the American people.  If after taking leadership, Kevin and company don’t deliver, you might be able to make a better case for lighting the fuse to the bomb to blow up the place.

Actually, though it was amazingly difficult, I believe history will show that the 20 who stood up for reform of the House rules performed an absolutely heroic service for our country. We should all be really grateful to them.

I completely disagree with you 100% regarding the few conservatives who voted not according to their Party, but according to their State Constituents!! It is good to know now that my speculations of your philosophy values are right in step with all the FOX FAKE NEWS folks. I guess pay you, own you runs DEEP for you, too! If #wethepeople want to elect House and Senate Reps who vote according to the Majority of the PARTY and $$PAC, rather than their State Constituents and beliefs, Congress should just become the UNIPARTY or the CCP DEMO PARTY who all vote the SAME to save TIME!!! Congress is completely broken with go-no-where investigations of WASTED TIME on OUR DIME and provides us NO JUSTICE in this two-tiered corrupt DOJ System! Thankfully, we have 20 members at this time who are NOT PART OF THIS CORRUPT ESTABLISHMENT and demanded CHANGE, no matter how it "looks" or the additional few days it took to get the CHANGES in place to vote UNIPARTY leader, Kevin McCarthy as Speaker! #Wethepeople DEMAND IMMEDIATE changes in Congress and Fed Agencies! We want the swamp to be cleaned out. Kevin McCarthy will not do this. #Wethepeople need fighters in CONGRESS for our rights and PROTECT AMERICA! The current Democratic Radical Party of one seeks to destroy the USA and its citizens......WAKE UP, man!!

I respectfully disagree with your opinion and derogatory description of the 20 Republicans who negotiated with Rep Kevin McCarthy. I found the Speaker Fight to be robust and healthy driving good public conversation and awareness and concluding with some very positive items being agreed to.

I usually agree 100% with you on just about all topics you write on. I love your insight and input.

All that said, I disagree with your insight regarding the Kevin McCarthy saga and the 20 who stood against him.

Though they never got what they were aiming for (a true effort to drain the swamp and NOT to allow any Speaker of the House to have too much power), they took a stand for what they believed was right from their point of view and their constituents.

I believe they were doing what they believed was best for our country.

For you to speak negatively of their mindset, I disagree. It wasn’t like they held up the country for months on end. This was a matter of days.

You are correct, none of us are perfect (including me). If it weren’t for the grace of God, none of us would have any hope in this fallen world. But to say they shouldn’t have stood their ground for what they believed to be the best for the country, I again, disagree.

Mike, I 100% disagree with you. I have studied this issue for 12 years myself. The '20' as you call them represent a larger portion of the population and their beliefs than you think, by a long shot. I am an independent and left the Republican party in 1988 because of Bush Sr. The party has not been CONSERVATIVE since Newt Gingrich and Clinton balanced the budget in the last couple years of Clinton's presidency. The last 2 years have been a study in so-called conservative bowing to the left, especially this Omnibus bill. And McConnell pushing through the Omnibus was reprehensible while not funding Republican candidates like Blake Masters, etc was even worse. The GOP needs A NEW DIRECTION AND NEW LEADERSHIP to get back to being seriously conservative at a time when the debt is out of control and neither side is doing ANYTHING. We need these 20 and 199 more like them to get a real conservative leader in the House. Thank you.

?? What really happened when “the 20” held out voting for Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House? What were the concessions that McCarthy made? You and I should care a lot about this because this impacts how laws are made which, in turn, affects every one of us. Find out on the World Prayer Network, Sunday night January 8th, 8pm ET.
    ?? Hear from:
    • Congressman Ralph Norman of South Carolina’s 5th Congressional District
    • Congressman Chip Roy of Texas’ 21st Congressional District
    • Congressman Dan Bishop of North Carolina’s 8th Congressional District.

**This will be profoundly enlightening and encouraging.**

    Dear Mike,

You are 100% spot on about the hold outs....err...hold ups . I will never ever again just give money to the GOP - because I want to make sure all of those people have the world's shortest political career(s). Terrible way to move forward. We desperately need a correction to the destructive Democratic policies, which have tragically become the new normal.

God bless the USA. Looking forward to your daughter being our governor!

    Sincerely,

    Sue Viecelli

Kevin McCarthy failed to bring spending under control. Bankruptcy is in the offering. He is the failure!

Hi Mike, this story changed now that we have KM in we have new normal rules again. This means GOP will NOT have the dictatorial power given to NP. The good news is the abuse will stop. Bad news is the fox is still in the henhouse and is heating up to deep frier!
