After I said that if we formed a third party we’d never, ever win another presidential election, EVER, I received quite a few letters from readers who think differently. Here’s a typical one...

From Stephen R:

You say that you’re against a third party and that we’d never again win an election if that happens. I totally disagree! If we abandon the Republican Party in major numbers with the right candidate, I think we’d stand a better chance rather than having the same old s*** on the menu!

What chance will the Republicans have when most of us are totally fed up with the crap that we’ve listened to for years and nothing changing (excluding President Trump)! The rest of them are just filling a seat and going along with the Democrat BS! They talk a good line when in front of the cameras, but go along with the Dems behind closed doors and to hell with their constituents! What good will the Republican Party be when 2/3 of us will not vote for another Republican candidate? I’ll vote Democrat just to remove these spineless cowards that are in office trying to say that they have our backs!!! I’m done!!!!

From the Gov:

Thanks for writing, Stephen. Obviously, our party has reached a crossroads, and it’s critically important how we decide to go forward from this point. But if I may offer some “famous last words,” I can think of none more appropriate than what you just said: “I’ll vote Democrat just to remove these spineless cowards...”

Vote Democrat? With all due respect, Stephen, I have six words for you:

Are you out of your mind?

The reason we have such a disaster in the U.S. Senate now is that Georgia Republicans, fed up by the Nov. 3 outcome, refused to vote Republican, staying home on the day of the senatorial run-off elections and giving their state two of the most radical left-wing senators ever to be on the ballot, and that’s saying something. We know now that if they had come out for the Republican candidates in numbers comparable to their November 3 turnout, they would have kept the Senate out of the hands of radical leftists. Gosh, I hope all those fed-up conservative Georgia voters are happy now.

Let’s do some basic math. Right now, the two major parties, in terms of numbers, are pretty evenly split. If the 2/3 of Republicans who, as you say, are thoroughly fed up and refuse to vote for another Republican DO vote for a third party candidate instead, that will give the third party candidate a whopping 2/3 of what the anti-Democrat vote would have been otherwise. The Republican gets the other 1/3. These two parties will split about half the total vote.

But the Democrats get almost all of the other half, which means they WIN, as all they need is a plurality. Obviously, 1/3 of the Republican vote isn’t going to get us squat. But even 2/3 of that vote isn’t going to get us squat, either. One thing about Democrats: they do stick together. And if they stick together and we fragment, with no more than 2/3 of our vote going to any one candidate, guess which party wins?

That’s right, the Democrats, every time. Go to the head of the class.

When Democrat Party candidate Bill Clinton won in 1992, he got a whopping 43 percent of the popular vote. The other two major candidates, Republican incumbent George H. W. Bush and Independent Party candidate and Texas billionaire H. Ross Perot, essentially split the rest; that “giant sucking sound” you heard was Perot sucking up 19 percent of the vote (the most a third party candidate has ever received, but it translated into ZERO electoral votes). So victory went to Clinton, the Democrat. Some analysts said that Clinton would’ve beaten Bush anyway, but we don’t know about that. A huge number of conservative Republicans rejected a second Bush term and voted for Perot, giving us the Democrats.

Let’s go farther back in history, to when former President Teddy Roosevelt tried a comeback with a third party, the Bull Moose Party. In 1912, a group of Republicans dissatisfied with President William Howard Taft formed the Bull Moose Party specifically for TR to run again. (He supposedly had said he was “fit as a bull moose” to run again.) The Bull Moose Party was “progressive” for the time and favored such new-fangled ideas as women’s suffrage, direct election of U.S. senators, and various social reforms. Roosevelt ran on what he called the “Square Deal,” based on fair business competition and more welfare programs for the needy.

Anyway, his candidacy divided the Republican Party, and Democrat Woodrow Wilson easily won. Would you like to hear about Woodrow Wilson and his administration? That’s a topic for another day, but for now let’s just say it would have been much better if TR hadn’t divided the Republican Party and let Wilson and his pals glide into the Oval Office.

Things the left would love to see from us:

1) An uprising. In fact, the Capitol breach played into their hands so well that if it hadn’t happened, they would have had to create it; make of that statement what you will. The Capitol incident gave the left all the excuse they needed to label every one of us a “domestic terrorist” and start taking our rights away. As frustrated as you might be, DO NOT give them any more reason to do that. Believe me, they are just waiting for this.

2) A third party. The left would LOVE this. Aside from the reasons mentioned above, a third party is not going to have the “ground game” of the well-oiled machine that is the Democrat Party. All this will do is split the Republican Party vote and ensure Democrat victories time after time. I know many of you don’t want to hear this, but it’s the hard truth.

3) Giving up. Some conservatives are now saying the fight is over and we have lost. Why bother voting if the elections are rigged? Why bother tweeting if you’ll just be banned? Just stay home and wait for the end. But this would be a gift to the left. When you give up, they push even harder.

We have to fix our party, from the inside. We do have a few outstanding incumbents, but for the RINOS, we have to find solid, articulate conservative candidates for primary challenges. That’s what the “progressives” in the Democrat Party did, through organizations such as Justice Democrats, the group that recruited AOC. Democrats organize like mad, and if they aren’t satisfied with their incumbents, they challenge them. This is what we’re going to have to do with our own who fail to represent our views and values. Perhaps Trump could help with this. We must go into every race with the strongest ticket we can find, work like our freedom depends on it (because it does) and be assertive poll watchers!

But, again, the worst thing conservatives can do is split off and form a third party. Don’t even think about it!

    Governor,
I like you and agree with most of what you say. However, I disagree with your position on a third party.
We need a party that truly represents the conservative movement. There are too many RINOs in the Republican Party (good Lord we even nominated them to run for President).
A viable third party would actually force the people in Washington that are supposed to represent us have to work together as opposed to the partisan methods that have been employed since Bush 41.

I love Trump. I would PROBABLY be convinced to vote for him again, but with so many Republicans in the swamp, Trump couldn’t accomplish all he wanted to, due to them and there seems to be no way to get them out, until they DIE! So why bother. It’s easy to lie to us and say you will support another Trump term then just do what they did this last time and vote Democrat instead, sometimes behind closed doors, other times, right out in our faces!! I’m disgusted with the spineless Republicans.

I agree with your position in general terms, however, it depends on recruiting and running good solid party candidates. Look at the freshman class and tell me you think that happened in 2020. Since November, the Republican leadership has shown nothing but a return to the swamp. How can the votes on some of the most radical cabinet candidates have only 3 - 10 opposing votes?
How can Omar, AOC, Pressley and others retain their committee assignments when the Republicans are eating their own?
How can Liz Cheney retain any position in leadership?
I do not see anything going on in the party that will result in anything changing, so for me, I'm on the sidelines until something does.

I understand completely stephen R's frustration with the wimpy Republicans who have let us down time and again and helped create our current position. BUT I completely agree with you regarding the third party......we have to stand together as Republicans to win. We have to vote......sometimes it's for the "lesser of two evils," but if we stand together, then hold our candidates accountable, I believe we can recover.

Hi, Mike. The Republican Party is too entrenched and has no backbone. Personally, I can't support Romney, Cheney and other GOP that just don't understand that they have to stick together to confront the DEMS. And it will take too long to get rid of these RINO's. Time for a strong third party with strong, vocal leadership. One can understand that the Tea Party was a necessary outgrowth of a weak GOP.

It really doesn't matter, our votes don't matter anymore. We have lost our country, our right to vote because of corrupt politicians. Republicans have shown their true colors and its not pretty. Trump was continually attacked and Republicans did nothing. We live in a country where we are allowed to vote but our votes don't count. In Ephesians 6:10 it is explained. Our fight is against the rulers and the government.

Mike, I am not voting any longer unless the system is fixed and there are safeguards in place to prevent another steal. As for GA, yes many stayed home because they were mad, but I do not think that was the issue by itself. I voted, but did my vote count? I am very doubtful it did. May I remind you that the dems are masters at election fraud and the same dem shenanigans that occurred in GA in November happened again in January. I have sent my state congress critters (both dems) emails asking how they intend to fix the problem. So far crickets is all I have heard. We have a non-citizen responsive government right now, unless you are a dem. While I agree that a third party is not the answer, something's got to give. We cannot go on being mr. nice guy while our country is deconstructed. Personally, I think God has abandoned us as he did Israel during the period of the Judges. I am just thankful that He is still in charge: "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28

When we donate to RNC, a one time donation magically turns into a monthly donation even though we never authorized a monthly recurring donation. If we don’t scrupulously check our charge card billing, these monthly charges we did NOT authorize gets charged to our account. So we stopped donating to RNC and others by credit card. It’s check only donation. AND even though we get RNC charge deleted for a month, charge reappears on next month’s charge card bill. It’s no way to run a campaign.

Mike, thanks for this article I am fed up with the party also and was thinking of a Third party but you make since. We need to stick together and find great candidates to run against the Rino’s. We have a great governor here in South Dakota and your daughter will make a great governor of Arkansas. Thanks for changing my mind. God Bless America

(IF) YOU SPEND 1/3 of time that you do on( F.B / big G / T. or any web site to FIND out who you are VOTING for There would not be need for THIRD PARTY starting with (RINOS) there are more than 14 now .

Huck, I agree with you almost all of the time (and have contributed to HUCKPAC), but the Democrats have learned that they can rig elections and falsify vote counts without any kind of repercussions. That is why Republicans will continue to lose elections until something happens to force a fair election. It may happen at the local levels when people are entirely fed up with Democrat corruption. BUT our 'school system' is dumbing down the electorate so they will continue to vote for promises of 'free stuff'.

Sir, while I respect and understand what you say about a third party, I disagree slightly with it. As of now I believe that a lot of the so called republicans we vote in coddle up and support the democrats, so what’s the difference if democrats were elected. Republicans had 12 years to understand what the democrats were up to and instead of doing anything they argued with each other and nothing got accomplished. Instead of supporting our president they worried about how they would be portrayed just like justice Roberts. They knew what all the changes to voting in areas would do and they did nothing. They knew the election was stolen and nothing. They didn’t wait for evidence of the riot on the capital and bailed on their responsibilities and started cozying up to the democrats. They’ve even went against their own and helped remove from positions. They have abandoned us. I agree third party hurts but it hurt when it was first formed. I believe we have to find candidates to push out the RINO’S and then vote to replace the name so as to try and remove the stench of these traitors.

Governor, you make good sense, but I too am frustrated with the Republicans.
Even now, we see many, if not most, Republicans trying to distance themselves from Trump. Liz Cheney and Eric Stallwell is allowed to keep their committee seats, but Marjorie Greene was easily removed from her's for far less serious infractions. That would not have happened if not for the turncoat Republicans.
100% of Republicans should have stood with Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley on that day January 6th, in unity calling for an audit of the contested votes in those states that requested them. If so, we may very well have a different President today. And why would Trump supporters storm the Capitol building at the very moment the one thing they wanted was hapening inside?
There is one way a third party would work. If 100% of registered Republicans left the party for the new one, then we would be back to just two parties. However no Rinos or moderates could apply to run, only vetted true conservatives.
How that would be accomplished is doubtful, I realize.
I also want to state that, in the Georgia runoffs, no matter if all Republicans had turned out to vote, the cheating would still have won the day.
If we are honest, we all know cheating is what handed this election to the Democrats, and until and unless that is fixed, Democrats will always win.
In my estimation, the current Republican party has no expressed interest in examining nor fixing the broken voting system. Until they do, don't expect any warm and fuzzies coming from the electorate.

    Agree with author, about GOP:
    I divide GOP into these:
    Never Trumpers
    RINOs
True Patriots: Cruz, Jordan, Trey Gowdy etc.
But Estd DC GOP ruin the party
I say Purge GOP RNC Upper Mgmt.
    Or we lose 2022.
Estd DC RNC in bed with DNC Dems
    Unless changed we Lose.

I don't think GA lost the senate seats because Republicans didn't vote. I'm a Republican who lives and votes in GA. Everyone I know voted Republican. Once again, Stacey Abrams was allowed to cheat by bringing in outside voters, or mail in ballots from our recently departed, etc. She was caught cheating in the GA race she won. We are frustrated here because there is no hope when there is so much fraud allowed.

But what if the “HUTA” that is head up, you can think of the rest, 1/3 joined the new party, which they should do, now you have enough to beat the democrats, maybe.

You are wrong, Governor. Naturally, a GOP stalwart would rage against starting a third party - but that doesn't mean you're correct. You probably believe what you are saying, but you're wrong. Starting a new Patriot Party will admittedly take several years - but saving our Constitutional Republic is certainly worth it. Too many in GOP are weaklings who refuse to fight for WETHEPPL; even standing down when it came to defending our right to a free, fair election. The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior; the GOP will never stand for WETHEPPL. Which is precisely why we MUST have a new party of conservative Patriots who will fight for our country and all of our Constitutional rights.

Thank you, Gov Huckabee for your strong and continued support of our President Trump and your forthright position on issues vital to the American people and country. "We have to fix our party, from the inside" you say... how long have we been trying to fix that? How many times have controlled both Chambers in Congress and the Presidency and did absolutely nothing with that power? How many times have members in the Republican party turned their madness on each other and against a President of their own party? How many have spoken with fork tongues . say one thing and did the opposite? The Republican Party is no different that the Democrat Party .. they're for selfish greed and power. There are 80M plus who voted for Trump .. we are now more and more collectively standing up as We The People .. that's 80M voices, 80M votes and 80M equipped and ready to defend the 2nd Amendment, the rights to keep and bear arms. The Republican Party is dead as we speak!

Not saying I disagree with you Governor. However, at one point, Republicans were the 3rd party. So I'm tired of the trope. If backed by enough people, a third party becomes a major second party, which is exactly what happened to the Republican party in 1854. It seems like many Republicans would have us forget that fact. Unfortunately, becoming a major second party takes a catalyst, a major grassroots movement and requires someone like Trump or a Lincoln to lead it. We have the catalyst - a stolen election, massive unemployment that will happen under Biden and the policies of the Left, who will try to make the US a Communist state. We even have the ability for a major grassroots movement - more so than Republicans had in the 1850s. But we don't have the leader - Trump has already announced he'd be helping Republicans, and Lincoln is dead. Therefore, we are left with Dumb and Dumber. Maybe, if things get bad enough, the stupid morons who voted for Biden will have epiphanies, but I'm not hopeful, because the same idiots voted for Obama.
