After I said that if we formed a third party we’d never, ever win another presidential election, EVER, I received quite a few letters from readers who think differently. Here’s a typical one...

From Stephen R:

You say that you’re against a third party and that we’d never again win an election if that happens. I totally disagree! If we abandon the Republican Party in major numbers with the right candidate, I think we’d stand a better chance rather than having the same old s*** on the menu!

What chance will the Republicans have when most of us are totally fed up with the crap that we’ve listened to for years and nothing changing (excluding President Trump)! The rest of them are just filling a seat and going along with the Democrat BS! They talk a good line when in front of the cameras, but go along with the Dems behind closed doors and to hell with their constituents! What good will the Republican Party be when 2/3 of us will not vote for another Republican candidate? I’ll vote Democrat just to remove these spineless cowards that are in office trying to say that they have our backs!!! I’m done!!!!

From the Gov:

Thanks for writing, Stephen. Obviously, our party has reached a crossroads, and it’s critically important how we decide to go forward from this point. But if I may offer some “famous last words,” I can think of none more appropriate than what you just said: “I’ll vote Democrat just to remove these spineless cowards...”

Vote Democrat? With all due respect, Stephen, I have six words for you:

Are you out of your mind?

The reason we have such a disaster in the U.S. Senate now is that Georgia Republicans, fed up by the Nov. 3 outcome, refused to vote Republican, staying home on the day of the senatorial run-off elections and giving their state two of the most radical left-wing senators ever to be on the ballot, and that’s saying something. We know now that if they had come out for the Republican candidates in numbers comparable to their November 3 turnout, they would have kept the Senate out of the hands of radical leftists. Gosh, I hope all those fed-up conservative Georgia voters are happy now.

Let’s do some basic math. Right now, the two major parties, in terms of numbers, are pretty evenly split. If the 2/3 of Republicans who, as you say, are thoroughly fed up and refuse to vote for another Republican DO vote for a third party candidate instead, that will give the third party candidate a whopping 2/3 of what the anti-Democrat vote would have been otherwise. The Republican gets the other 1/3. These two parties will split about half the total vote.

But the Democrats get almost all of the other half, which means they WIN, as all they need is a plurality. Obviously, 1/3 of the Republican vote isn’t going to get us squat. But even 2/3 of that vote isn’t going to get us squat, either. One thing about Democrats: they do stick together. And if they stick together and we fragment, with no more than 2/3 of our vote going to any one candidate, guess which party wins?

That’s right, the Democrats, every time. Go to the head of the class.

When Democrat Party candidate Bill Clinton won in 1992, he got a whopping 43 percent of the popular vote. The other two major candidates, Republican incumbent George H. W. Bush and Independent Party candidate and Texas billionaire H. Ross Perot, essentially split the rest; that “giant sucking sound” you heard was Perot sucking up 19 percent of the vote (the most a third party candidate has ever received, but it translated into ZERO electoral votes). So victory went to Clinton, the Democrat. Some analysts said that Clinton would’ve beaten Bush anyway, but we don’t know about that. A huge number of conservative Republicans rejected a second Bush term and voted for Perot, giving us the Democrats.

Let’s go farther back in history, to when former President Teddy Roosevelt tried a comeback with a third party, the Bull Moose Party. In 1912, a group of Republicans dissatisfied with President William Howard Taft formed the Bull Moose Party specifically for TR to run again. (He supposedly had said he was “fit as a bull moose” to run again.) The Bull Moose Party was “progressive” for the time and favored such new-fangled ideas as women’s suffrage, direct election of U.S. senators, and various social reforms. Roosevelt ran on what he called the “Square Deal,” based on fair business competition and more welfare programs for the needy.

Anyway, his candidacy divided the Republican Party, and Democrat Woodrow Wilson easily won. Would you like to hear about Woodrow Wilson and his administration? That’s a topic for another day, but for now let’s just say it would have been much better if TR hadn’t divided the Republican Party and let Wilson and his pals glide into the Oval Office.

Things the left would love to see from us:

1) An uprising. In fact, the Capitol breach played into their hands so well that if it hadn’t happened, they would have had to create it; make of that statement what you will. The Capitol incident gave the left all the excuse they needed to label every one of us a “domestic terrorist” and start taking our rights away. As frustrated as you might be, DO NOT give them any more reason to do that. Believe me, they are just waiting for this.

2) A third party. The left would LOVE this. Aside from the reasons mentioned above, a third party is not going to have the “ground game” of the well-oiled machine that is the Democrat Party. All this will do is split the Republican Party vote and ensure Democrat victories time after time. I know many of you don’t want to hear this, but it’s the hard truth.

3) Giving up. Some conservatives are now saying the fight is over and we have lost. Why bother voting if the elections are rigged? Why bother tweeting if you’ll just be banned? Just stay home and wait for the end. But this would be a gift to the left. When you give up, they push even harder.

We have to fix our party, from the inside. We do have a few outstanding incumbents, but for the RINOS, we have to find solid, articulate conservative candidates for primary challenges. That’s what the “progressives” in the Democrat Party did, through organizations such as Justice Democrats, the group that recruited AOC. Democrats organize like mad, and if they aren’t satisfied with their incumbents, they challenge them. This is what we’re going to have to do with our own who fail to represent our views and values. Perhaps Trump could help with this. We must go into every race with the strongest ticket we can find, work like our freedom depends on it (because it does) and be assertive poll watchers!

But, again, the worst thing conservatives can do is split off and form a third party. Don’t even think about it!

If what you say is really true, then we are truly doomed. Conservatives did as the Republicans asked, they voted for more conservatives, they contributed more money and even elected more people. What happens, the same old people in the party refused to go along with what the people wanted. Add to that, the election fraud, that the Republicans refused to acknowledge and/or do anything about. I believe the election fraud has been used by the Republicans almost as much as the opposing party, Faithful Mitch as a good example. The only way these relics from both parties have stayed in power is rigged elections. And you think that continuing the same process will change that? Maybe if we had term limits, it would be a start, but I don't think any Washington politician would vote for that. Your answer is stay the course, keep giving the Republicans money, and maybe they will do the right thing, I don't think so. When someone goes to jail or worse, gets removed forcibly, then maybe the people will once again get behind the Republicans. Trump is not currently in office, not because of the Democrats, but because the Republican leadership did not support him or the peoples choice, or the rule of law. I, as well as millions of Americans are fed up with all parties, and are on the verge of revolt, we are ashamed of what both parties have done to our Nation, for their own personal gain. We are still holding hope that this rigged election, and this demented party that is currently in power, and these propaganda news medias are allowed to continue unfettered, will somehow be overturned. If that does not come about in the next few months, I'm afraid the people will take the same steps to remove these people from power as our forefathers had previously done, and believe me when I say they will not be putting the Republicans back in power, if that happens. We are waiting for a "leader" to unify the people to bring America back, if by force, if all else fails. We will not be playing the same old game as you want us to do. We've been ripped off, our money, our Nation, our elected officials, and finally our vote. We have had enough. It will not be the same old game.

Mike, you said "The reason we have such a disaster in the U.S. Senate now is that Georgia Republicans, fed up by the Nov. 3 outcome, refused to vote Republican." I completely disagree. The Democrats used the exact same fraud tactics in Georgia that they used to steal the presidential election. They knew that no one would call them on it and it worked to perfection. You have way too much faith in the system and act as though it was "all good." Wake up Mike!
The Democrats have the control they have now, totally and completely because of fraud. Certainly NOT by popular vote. The evidence is right in front of you so please quit pretending that the Democrats play fair or that these election outcomes are the result of a system that can't be rigged. Just look at the propaganda from mainstream news and tech media 24/7 and they are doing everything they can now to stamp out anyone who dares to question what they have done. If they were above board they wouldn't need censorship and cancel culture.

    Dear Governor Huckabee,
With all due respect, I totally disagree. At this point, I DON'T CARE if the Republicans fail, because WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE between the two parties anymore? The biggest difference that I can see is that the Democrats will always go on the offensive and use every opportunity to make sure that their policies are in place. The Republicans, on the other hand, want to be liked by the Democrats. They will always give in, bow down to, and give up - always on the defense, never on the offence. They talk a big game when it's time for reelection, but when they are in office, they forget about the constituents, and in actuality, have contempt for us, and we know that now. If you want proof that the Republicans do not deserve to win, just look at what they achieved when they had the White House, the House majority, and the Senate majority in 2016 - remember all that they accomplished? Remember how they backed all that our President wanted to do? Yeah, neither do I. I will NEVER vote Republican again. They have taken advantage of and taken for granted my vote and loyalty - they have contempt for the voter and they think we're too stupid to figure that out and too afraid of the Democrats to go against them. I'm not afraid - we have nothing to lose, because whether the Republicans are in or out of the majority, it makes no difference, because the Republicans do not want to FIGHT for our freedoms, for our Constitution - they want to "get along" and be in the special elitist club that is DC politics. I'm done. I'm done with all of them. I will vote for a third party or not vote at all - I will ABSOLUTELY NEVER vote for any Republican incumbent. The problem is the party is rotten from the core on out. The heads of the party are elitist and cannot be trusted. Never again! And I do wonder, why are you being so loyal to this party that is nothing but traitors.

    Howdy Mike!

I agree with you up to a point. Republicans are cowards. My wife and I have been proud financial supporters for the last three general elections, as well as local elections. But I'm sure you are aware, even though you shamefully avoid sharing the fact that when you donate to a specific candidate, a large portion of your donation goes into the mouths of an increasing RINO population of back stabbing traitors, such as McCarthy, McConnell, Murkowski, Collins, Kasich, Flake, Cheney, Corker, Romney, etc...

Note that some of the aforementioned have been censored by their local republican headquarters!

We will never send a dime to the national republican party until the aforementioned are removed with extreme prejudice, and TRUE conservatives are put in their place!
We will never vote democrat! But I wish they would list ways to support True Conservatives without sending a dime to Traitors!

Regarding a Third Party. I went back and forth on this issue. Initially it seemed like a good idea to form a "New Republican" Party with no RINO's and just members like Jim Jordan, Dan Crenshaw, Josh Hawley, etc. I thought, perhaps, there would be enough support from the voters to enable us to win. But I forgot about the MONEY. There would never be enough $$$ to fund a new party. So it would seem WE have to renovate the existing Republican Party, and I do believe it's possible. Remove the RINO's if they are silly enough to run on the Republican ticket again. However: No amount of effort will matter if we don't fix the election process. We cannot allow our elections to be stolen with fraudulent ballots, rigged machines and illegal voters. I don't know how it can be done, but it MUST be done. There must be people on our side who can figure it out. I pray it can be accomplished before the 2022 elections. We have to get a Republican majority in Congress, or this country will not recover from Biden's economy crushing, rights-stripping, socialist agenda.

Dear Governor Huckabee, Thank you for the very clear analysis of the 3rd party idea. i was one of the ones who voted for Ross Perot and I have deeply regretted it ever since. Also, thank you for pointing out the number of states that are solidly Republican and the rights that they have to challenge the the voting issues and executive mandates. We need truth and hope in a dark time.
    Sincerely, Janice LaMar

I am not for a third party either. Everything you said is true. What many voters don't realize is that the original voice of the Progressives was the Republican Party, led by, as you said, Teddy Roosevelt. In fact he and Taft were the first two Progressive presidents. Beginning with Woodrow Wilson, the Democrats became the voice of Progressives. What we need is better vetting of those we choose for congress as well as for those running for the office of President. We also need to stop voting members into congress for umpteen years. No wonder they begin to think they are untouchable! When we hand over that much power to those who are supposed to serve us we soon find ourselves having little to no power to control them and they begin serving themselves; even the best of them.

    Hi, Mike,
Please be sure you watch Mike Lindell’s documentary released yesterday 2/5/21. It’s available on Rumble. If you watch it thoroughly you’ll see there is absolute evidence of election foreign interference and fraud due to the computer systems used in the US.
Time to quit saying it’s just a hunch, bypass fake media, and get the truth to the public!
    God bless!

    02/06/2021 03:26 PM

Governor, please be realistic: 1. Most of established GOP-Leaders don`t like voters supporting President Trumps policies (for starters: Liz Cheney overwhelming got support within the GOP caucus). 2. GOP is already split (for starters: look at those who like to go the unsucessful Bush/Cheney path): E.g. Kelly Ayotte (who didn't vote for then President Trump in 2016) lost her US-Senate bid by 1,017 votes and is a potential candidate for 2022. She was the only vulnerable GOP Senator who was not supported by AfP because of her support to "Clean Power Plan". 3. ABC/CBS/CNN/(C)NBC is know for their left wing bias. And whats about FOX nowadays (greetings to Lou Dobbs). Its hard to win general elections without press support. 4. Members of "Lincoln Project" not only vote D but also contribute to them. 5. Please double check comments your daughter got on her twitter account after announcing her bid. 6. Let me finish with a question: Do you think that GOP will support ONE canditate in primaries as competive alternative to eg Jame Beutler, Liz Cheney, Anthony Gonzalez, Adam Kitzinger, Den Newhouse, Tom Rice, Fred Upton, Mitt Romney (2024) or Ben Sasse (2026) all for bits in GOP home turf?

  • pat kennedy

    02/06/2021 02:24 PM

Just perused the comment and Governors reply. The issue is that the two party system has put up roadblocks for a new party. They divvied up the power structure by controlling voter registrations and candidacy requirements, above and beyond the US constitution by using state constitutions. In Illinois if I run as a party candidate, some 800 valid voter signatures from the district or area is needed and the opposing side will check every one of those signatures.

Now on the independent idea of running, 10,760 valid voter signatures will be needed and both parties will sift the names like wheat. This is for running for the House on the Federal level.

A third party will need to be validated in all states and territories and I assure you our passive justice system will be active to block every move.

With all due respect, Governor, I wish to humbly offer my opinion as to why “we are in such a mess in Georgia.” : The GOP did not insist on an honest and fair accounting of the Nov 3rd election and wheeled in the same corrupted Dominion Voting Machine to do the business in the run-off. And THAT is why Republican voters were disheartened to the point of sitting the run-off out.

  • Ann McKinstry

I agree, a third party will only create more division and no win for conservatives. We need to organize like the dems did in Georgia. Smart stuff, they looked at young people who would be eligible to vote in the Senate race and got them registered and voting. Plus they went to known democratic communities and got the vote out. We need to think outside of the box and get folks voting and also find a candidate that is a true conservative and resonates with conservatives and can pull from t he democrats too. It can be done and we need to start now so we are ready in 2022 and then 2024.

  • Vicki Murphy

Regarding part of your statement below, I believe people did vote in huge numbers. It was stated on the news, not the fake news, that voter turnout was as great as the Nov 3rd election. Since voter fraud issue was never allowed to be shown and they got away with it in Nov, the same thing happened as with Pres Trump. The republicans were ahead when the polls closed. By the time the mail in ballots were counted they lost.
Blaming the voters for not showing up is something you can not prove and I am disappointed that you would accuse them. Lets lay the blame where is should be- IT WAS STOLEN. schumer even said it, he knew they were taking GA. I know you all are afraid to say anything about the election fraud but it is high time our past and present elected officials and judges make a stand against this coup. Have you seen Absolute Proof put out by Mike Lindell. There is proof of foreign tampering in our election. What are you going to do Gov?

"disaster in the U.S. Senate now is that Georgia Republicans, fed up by the November 3 outcome, refused to vote Republican, staying home on the day of the senatorial run-off elections and giving their state two of the most radical left-wing senators ever to be on the ballot, and that’s saying something."

I agree with Mr. Huckabee. This is not the time to get pissy and throw a temper tantrum. We must stick together as Republicans. No matter how bad things get once we hit rock bottom, which is where we are right now, we can only go up from here. We need to start playing dirty like the Democrats do. If the Dems want to play tit-for-tat then we need to figure out how to play and beat them at their own game.

According to the latest Rasmussen poll, the Republicans would be the third party.

  • Michael

    02/06/2021 12:02 PM

Maybe a third party doesn't stand a chance against the evil Dem-Marxist, but millions of Trump supporters have completely had it with the coward, treasonous, bought off Republicans. The Republicans will find out that they have already lost 74+ million Trump supporters and $ donations. We have had it with all the corruption and scandals starting with Obama and the Republicans did nothing! When the WH, House and Senate were in control of Republicans they would not get behind President Trump and MAGA. Then the 2020 election was stolen and the Republicans did nothing and the corrupt cheating Dems knew the Republicans would do nothing. And the list goes on and on. So it shouldn't take anyone with even a little discernment and wisdom to realize that the Republican party did themselves in and Americans by the millions know it. And all this talk about the Republicans coming back and winning in 2022 is ridiculous. The Dems cheated and stole the election and GOT AWAY WITH IT and they will continue to do so while they literally destroy our Republic with their agenda, a mix of Marxism and Communism that has already begun and will only increase as evil men will continue while not enough good men will stop it. Lots of talk, many, many issues and corruption swept under the rug and NOTHING done about it. The Dems took total advantage of the cowardly and do nothing Republicans. So a third-party? Or a complete over-haul of the current party. None of it sounds too promising, but time will tell, as the Deep State Swamp gets even deeper and more corrupt!!

  • Rodney Douglas

    02/06/2021 10:51 AM

I agree with you Governor, third party is not the answer. But left out the part that President Bush broke his promise on taxes and left the gate open for Perot. That’s the problem. Weak, bad candidates that somehow always say the right things but never seem to be like you. That was Georgia’s problem. Not the best candidates. Even today Trump still excites the conservative right. And yet Republicans leadership points fingers at Trumps impurities and sometimes rough edges. There is a real disconnect in the Republican Party. And when we see McConnel get re-elected as Minority leader, and then see how he has behaved with this impeachment mess, lots of us throw our hands up and say forget this we have to do something. Right or wrong something.

I want a 3rd party, I have 11 grown grandchildren and know many more that didn't vote because they want the old Senators and Representatives removed, they want term limits, they want younger Representatives and President. If we don't get 3rd party candidates we will lose the Republican party. I have voted Republican for many many elections but would not vote for many of the old Republicans in office now.

Im writing you today so you can understand my position. I have voted since we elected the great Ronald Reagan ,the last great American President .I was a registered republican but changed to a independent considering my self a constitutional conservative . I have continually voted republican since the dems were never a option for me. Since this last election I can see that the republicans are no longer a option either . THE rhino party is only interested in being reelected and keeping their personal wealth flowing while the American middle class die what was a slow death but has been sped up by the desertion of Donald Trump by said party. Just look at 2 of the top rhino senators mitch McConnell and Lindsey graham , nobody can tell me these men care or understand what my life is like. when they condemn what happened at the capitol and have not one idea why it happened they only worsen the problem . they continue to let the demon party of the left and the lying media and the socialist platforms like twitter ,face book, and google set the narrative. when mitch McConnell addressed the American public after the protest at the capitol and try's to scold me and my fellow patriots but never mentions the injustice that we see going on for the last 2 decades .where there is no demon held responsible for the email scandal or the Russia hoax and she is given a platform to continue the lie and get richer. or the Jeffery Epstein scandal that has been covered up and nobody is punished ,creepy uncle bill your predecessor and hollywood elites' go on with their lives of debauchery . in the mean time back at the bat cave the cia and the fbi hunt down any American who had had enough and was pushed to the brink and could find no just took matters into their own hands . they stormed their congress not the political elites congress the peoples congress but they forget. where would tom Payne have been or George Washington or our other founding fathers .where are the men from the boston tea party today.they are gone and so goes our republic with them .we have only one hope left for us as a nation and that hope is in the saving grace of JESUS CHRIST our LORD and SAVOUR .unless we repent and turn from our sins as a nation you sir and I know what the future holds. For us as slaves of JESUS we may have some difficult time ahead here on our earthly journey but our eternal destination is what we seek. so in brief I can no longer put my trust in men who have no desire to seek GODS will for this country. I do continue to pray for them but will not cast one more vote for one more fraud .thank you for your site which I will continue to read.

I agree with you about not forming a third party, removing RINOs in primary elections, and letting Trump lead this effort. I think you are like Trump in your populist views and you could have won both your Presidential election bids. (I brought my daughter to your rally in Waukesha, WI and was sad when the conservative vote was split and John McCain got through instead of you.) But you are more diplomatic than Trump. I’m glad to see your daughter running for governor. (She would be a great President too.). Thanks for all you do! You have a lot of wisdom in these areas.

Mike,I would have agreed with you pre Trump era, but no more. I believe there are many Democrats and independents who are also tire of the same old bs. A third party is absolutely necessary to maintain an even keel. The 50 50 partnership is done done done.
