Good evening! Here are some stories from me that I think you will want to read.
THE LATEST
1. BACK IN FRONT OF THE SENATE: Wednesday, Attorney General Merrick Garland was back in front of the Senate, being grilled about his letter threatening FBI intervention into parents who complain at school board meetings. Republicans pressed Garland on whether he would retract that widely-condemned memo now that the National School Board Association has apologized for writing the letter that allegedly sparked it.
(Background: that backtracking apology came after the angry dad held up as an example of a “domestic terrorist” was revealed to be justifiably angry that the school board covered up the rape of his daughter by a “gender-fluid” male in the girls’ bathroom, as well as other sexual assaults in the school.)
Instead, Garland doubled down and defended the use of the FBI for these alleged threats that can and should be handled by local law enforcement. He also continued to insist these threats were real, even though he couldn’t cite a single specific example, only that there “were news reports that had been published.” (I could name a number of news reports that have been published that are pure bull droppings.)
He also apparently never considered whether the threat of having the FBI show up at your door might chill parents’ Constitutional right to free speech, although he was evasive on that; but he went on to deny that he thought it would. Because if there’s one thing the Russiagate attempted coup taught us, it’s that innocent citizens can trust the DOJ and FBI not to try to railroad them into jail for stating their political views.
Sen. Ted Cruz did a particularly good job of grilling Garland, including on his conflict of interest with his son-in-law’s company selling schools the Critical Race Theory materials that parents are objecting to. It makes for good reading while counting down the seconds until these people can be voted out of office.
Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton’s exchange with Garland was also well worth seeing. To whet your appetite, here’s how Cotton ended it:
“This testimony, your directive, your performance is shameful. Thank God you are not on the Supreme Court. You should resign in disgrace, Judge.”
2. UNSURPRISING ECONOMIC NEWS: The Commerce Department reports that US GDP growth fell to 2% in the third quarter, the weakest since the pandemic recovery began. Economists expected 2.7% growth, and the previous quarter’s growth was 6.7%. It was partly blamed on a resurgence of COVID and on government assistance payments declining and consumer spending slowing.

So we have rampant inflation even while the economy is slowing and consumer spending is falling? I think we used to have a word for that in the 1970s…
3. GENDER X PASSPORTS: The Biden State Department has issued the first US passport with an “X” gender designation to someone who doesn’t identify as male or female.
I’m sure nobody’s supposed to be allowed to question this, but aren’t passports primarily intended as a form of official ID? They describe the person physically, so that customs officials can be certain you are who you claim to be. What you “identify” as is irrelevant; it’s a description of what you are. And except for extremely rare cases of genetic abnormalities, everyone is definitely either an M or an F.
If you’re 5’2” and Hispanic, but you identify as a Swedish basketball player, can you get a passport that says you’re 6’9” with blue eyes and blonde hair? After all, that’s your “personal lived truth.” I’m sure I’ll be attacked by leftists for asking such an ignorant, insulting and bigoted question…but the timer’s already running on how long it will take before they’re demanding that people be allowed to do exactly that, and anyone who questions it will be called an ignorant, insulting bigot.
After all, leftists have to constantly be attacking reality, because if you look at how well things work out when they’re in charge, reality is not their friend.

4. CHARACTER: It’s said that character is determined by what you do when nobody is watching. And it’s sometimes revealed by what you say when you don’t think your microphone is on, like what the president of the Los Alamitos, California, school board said about a parent who’d expressed disapproval of masking and vaccine mandates for kids.

I should also point out that her later statement that the public must be "heard with respect," and that "I reaffirm my commitment to serve our community with dignity and integrity, and I hope they will accept my sincere apology," was issued when she knew everyone was watching.
Oh well, at least she didn’t take the kids on a field trip to a gay bar, like some school board members I could name.

5. "FACT-CHECKERS":
Where are the so-called “fact-checkers” when you need them? Guess I have to do it myself. I award four Pinocchios to President Biden for just four words: his claim that America is “on the right track.”

6. CONSUMER SAFETY ALERT: Walmart announced a recall of its Better Homes & Gardens Gem Room Spray. The air freshener could be tainted with dangerous bacteria. If you have this product in your home, read the linked story for details immediately:
7. THE VERY BEST OF HANDS: The Country’s In The Very Best Of Hands! The Biden Administration announced that carriers that sit too long in the ports of L.A. and Long Beach without unloading their cargo will be charged a $100-a-day fine. Good plan: make all the goods that they aren’t able to unload even more expensive so that at least when the stores shelves are empty, we can think about all the money we’ll be saving by not having anything to buy.
