More backlash against AG Garland's assault on parents and the Constitution
By Mike Huckabee
As Mark Levin said Sunday night on LIFE, LIBERTY & LEVIN, your liberty, your speech, your freedom of association, your school districts, neighborhoods and communities --- all are under assault right now by the Biden administration and, specifically, the attorney general of the United States.
That would be Merrick Garland, and the Department of “Justice” he leads.
The First Amendment guarantees Americans the freedom to associate freely and also “to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” But today, if you’re the angry parent of a child being indoctrinated to think of himself either as privileged (the oppressor) or victimized (the oppressed) because of the color of his skin, and you go to your local school board meeting and protest that, and maybe you impress someone as being a little too strident –- it’s that subjective –- you are lumped into the same category with domestic terrorists like Timothy McVeigh.
“The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, the Bill Of Rights,” Levin said, “is under attack by the attorney general of the United States, Merrick Garland, and his staff.” We’ve been watching this unfolding drama closely and could not agree more.
Levin notes that Biden’s staff and others at the White House have joined them in “a coordinated attack to try and silence parents and taxpayers, the citizens of this nation who elect their school board, who send their children into these classrooms.” How dare these parents protest the leftist rot that their kids are being force-fed. We’ve told you about the memo from Merrick Garland to the Criminal Division, the National Security Division, and Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department, plus the Executive Office of U.S. Attorneys and the FBI, telling them to treat this kind of protest as domestic terrorism, when not one example of violent or threatening behavior was cited.
Through the Patriot Act, which was enacted to fight real terrorism after 9/11 and never intended for this purpose, Garland's memo opens up parents to being spied on and having their associations tracked. A simple “hotline” phone call can lead to the FBI arriving at their door for an “ambush” interview. As Levin points out, the memo specifically asserts that “...[constitutional] protection does not extend to threats of violence or efforts to intimidate individuals based on their views.” I would say that if there is any effort to intimidate individuals based on their views, it is the action prescribed by this memo.
Merrick Garland surely understands that the federal government has no jurisdiction over this whatsoever. With each passing day, it gets harder to believe that this man was nominated to be a Supreme Court justice, and we can thank God he didn’t get a lifetime appointment. Still, we have to deal with him for now, and an organization called America First Legal helping to lead the way.
Reed Rubinstein, senior counsel for that organization, has written a letter to DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz calling for an investigation “regarding potential improprieties related to the October 4, 2021, Attorney General’s Memorandum.” This is just what is called for, and highly recommended reading.
https://wordpress.aflegal.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Garland-Memo-DOJ-IG-Request.pdf
The letter describes discussions with “stakeholders” (National School Boards Association, etc.) held at the White House in early September “regarding avenues for potential federal action against parents” between a key Biden Domestic Policy Council official and White House staff members, and also with “at least one political appointee in the Civil Rights Division” of the DOJ. Concerns were expressed “regarding the potential partisan political impact of parent mobilization and organization around school issues in the upcoming midterm elections.”
Why should anyone be surprised that this is really all about politics? And do they really think that silencing parents is going to help them going into the next election? How out of touch can they be?
According to this letter, it was “in or about mid-September” that work began on AG Garland’s memo. Coincidence? I think not. The letter suggests it was “pre-coordinated.”
DOJ staff apparently expressed concerns that there was no authority granted for this under federal law (correct), and also that the parents’ protests were constitutionally protected (also correct). But it was said that THIS WAS A WHITE HOUSE PRIORITY. I guess that meant they would just have to find a way to violate these parents’ rights.
The letter goes on; I hope you’ll read the whole thing, as it nails the DOJ on what they and the White House have been up to.
Levin also brought up the attorney general’s startling conflict of interest, which, as you know, is that his son-in-law founded a multimillion-dollar company called Panorama that supplies just the sort of “educational” materials that these parents are protesting! Make no mistake, “woke” training materials and lecturing are a huge industry, and when you consider the corporate, government and education markets, some grifters---I mean, content creators, are making a freaking fortune from this garbage. Panorama’s materials are already used by 25 percent of the schools in this country. Instead of recusing himself, which he absolutely should have done, Garland signed the disgusting DOJ memo himself.
Here’s the summary at FOX NEWS.
https://www.foxnews.com/media/mark-levin-garland-school-board-memo
Alan Dershowitz had a strong reaction to Garland’s memo, saying, “I’ll defend anybody who is chilled in their free speech.” He said that sending out letters and calling for FBI investigations was “extreme.” As NEWSMAX reports, Dershowitz has also come out strongly against race-based teaching in schools, calling it “propaganda” and saying that protests against it should not be considered domestic terrorism.
The organization Parents Defending Education, which we have enthusiastically profiled here, responded that the attorney general “has declared a war on parents.” His conflict of interest regarding Panorama has not been lost on them, either.
In case you missed my comments in the wake of Garland’s memo here they are.

Also, the day after Garland sent his memo, Mollie Hemingway went on FOX NEWS’ “Special Report” to observe how out of whack the DOJ’s priorities are. “It is just amazing what the Department of Justice and the FBI will do and what they won’t do,” she said. They were “basically nowhere to be found” last year during all the riots that killed dozens of people and burned and vandalized federal buildings, local police precincts and hundreds of American businesses. And now they’re going after parents who are “justifiably concerned about all sorts of things happening in their school...”
America First Legal has it right when they say that for the Biden administration, this is about holding onto political power. But the ill-advised move appears to be backfiring and could be this administration’s undoing. Let it be so.
Bribing the Taliban
By Mike Huckabee
Over the weekend, the Biden Administration held meetings with Taliban leaders about “security and terrorism concerns and safe passage for U.S. citizens, other foreign nationals and our Afghan partners, as well as on human rights, including the meaningful participation of women and girls in all aspects of Afghan society." The State Department spokesman added, "The two sides also discussed the United States’ provision of robust humanitarian assistance, directly to the Afghan people."
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/state-department-taliban-meeting-doha-candid-professional
Translation: all those people they claim they didn’t leave behind in Afghanistan still need to get out somehow, and having handed all the power over to the Taliban, they’re now willing to bribe them with our money.
The spokesman also described the talks with the Taliban as “candid and professional.” Click the link to see a photo of Taliban members threatening protests with huge rifles, like professionals.
Happy Columbus Day
By Mike Huckabee
I don’t mind saying things that are controversial and get me a lot of hate on that great global cesspool known as Twitter. But this may be the most controversial, “triggering” thing I say all week:
Happy Columbus Day!
In some places, Columbus Day has been replaced with “Indigenous Peoples Day.” In others, they co-exist, or it’s still Columbus Day, but for how long? And why do so many woke leftists who "literally shake" at the idea of offending any ethnic group have no problem with offending Italian-Americans?
Personally, I see nothing wrong with having a day to honor Indigenous Peoples, but I don’t see why it has to obliterate Columbus Day. Honoring the achievements of Christopher Columbus doesn’t mean we’re saying he was perfect (we honor the only perfect person ever born on Christmas Day.) Shakespeare wrote, "The evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones." He had no idea how accurate that would be in the "woke" age.
Yes, Columbus did some bad things, but he also had the courage and determination to launch a dangerous expedition that would lead to the opening of the New World and eventually, the greatest nation in history, the United States of America (I’m really making the leftists literally shake, now!)
It’s bizarre how those who seek to destroy Columbus’ legacy claim that they are teaching the “real” history of America, when they’re actually pushing a grotesque distortion. Rather than looking at history realistically, they want us to believe that Columbus was 100% evil and that nothing good came of Europeans coming to the Americas. They also want us to believe that all Native peoples were peaceful ecologists living at one with nature, like hippies in a giant unspoiled commune. The Americas were a perfect Garden of Eden before the evil invaders arrived. The Natives talked to the trees, and the trees talked back. They seem to have gotten their ideas of what life then was like entirely from Disney’s animated “Pocahontas” movie.
As John Hinderaker at the Powerline blog reminds us, both sides reflected the good and bad that were part of all humanity, particularly in earlier, less enlightened times. For instance, slavery wasn’t introduced to North America by Europeans: many tribes waged war on other tribes and tortured and enslaved those they conquered. Conquest is hardly unique to this continent or to white Europeans: it’s gone on since the dawn of time. If we gave back all the land that was ever taken by force, then we’d all have to commit suicide and hope there were still a few Neanderthals around to take possession of the planet (I have a few relatives who might qualify.)
Wealthy liberals these days love to badmouth Columbus and rail about how this land was stolen from the Native Americans. Yet none of them ever want to give their mansions and estates back. To cite just one example, at the recent Tony Awards (which I’m sure you missed), someone made an impassioned statement about them all standing on land stolen from Native Americans, and the audience fervently applauded. But for what? For their own self-aggrandizing virtual signaling.
Nobody declared that they would never work on Broadway again until the deeds to the theaters were signed over to the descendants of the tribes that lived on Manhattan Island. They like being well-paid actors too much. They like that what was once a wilderness is now, thanks to American capitalism (which they also badmouth) a great city where people can earn enough money to pay $1000 a ticket to see “Hamilton.” But they’ll make an empty statement deploring all that on TV and applaud themselves for it. I’m sure Native Americans appreciated them doing literally the very least that they could possibly do.
Meanwhile, President Biden issued proclamations for both holidays, the one for Columbus Day more grudging, but both filled with plenty of revisionist rhetoric about America’s horrible, shameful history. John Hinderaker had a terrific observation about that:
“It is often said that groveling statements like those issued by Joe Biden reflect self-hatred, but I do not think that is correct. I don’t think liberals hate themselves. On the contrary, I think they are puffed up with unmerited self-regard. I think they hate you. And they associate you–not themselves–with the United States of America.”
That’s it in a nutshell: they hate this nation, set themselves apart from it, and want to “fundamentally transform it.” But they also love living large off the same system they condemn. And even more, they love applauding themselves while they parade their hypocrisy in public. It’s become the biggest Columbus Day parade in America.
Creeping globalism
By Mike Huckabee
In another step forward for globalism, 136 nations agreed to set their corporate tax rates no lower than 15%. This would still have to get past Congress in the US, and some Republicans have expressed concerns.
https://www.westernjournal.com/130-countries-agree-global-minimum-tax-deal-will-impact-americans/
The Biden Administration is hailing this as a great step forward in preventing companies from fleeing to nations that have the lowest taxes. They didn’t mention that if Biden gets the massive tax hikes he’s pushing, it won’t help America because virtually every other nation will still have lower corporate taxes than we will, and that includes communist China.
Cancelled flights
By Mike Huckabee
Many Americans are stranded at airports after Southwest Airlines canceled over a thousand flights, citing weather and air traffic controller issues. But there didn’t seem to be any inclement weather, and other airlines weren’t having this problem. That led many to speculate that it was really due to a shortage of pilots refusing to comply with Southwest’s strict vaccine mandate, which is being fought in court by their pilots’ union. But Southwest denied that was the reason for the cancellations.
Whatever the cause, it’s instructive to see the ignorance of the system that supporters of iron-fisted vaccine mandates are displaying on social media. One common theme is, “Fire them all and just hire new people to replace them!” Aside from the “whatever happened to ‘my body, my choice?’” question, you have to wonder if these people have even heard of the current worker shortages. Restaurants can’t even open full time because they can’t find enough applicants to work as waiters, but these people seem to believe that the streets are filled with unemployed airline pilots eager for a job.
Hymnal
Praise To The Lord The Almighty
To Listen: https://www.godtube.com/popular-hymns/praise-to-the-lord-the-almighty/
1 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise him, for he is your health and salvation!
Come, all who hear; now to his temple draw near,
join me in glad adoration.
2 Praise to the Lord, above all things so wondrously reigning;
sheltering you under his wings, and so gently sustaining!
Have you not seen all that is needful has been
sent by his gracious ordaining?
3 Praise to the Lord, who will prosper your work and defend you;
surely his goodness and mercy shall daily attend you.
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do,
if with his love he befriends you.
4 Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore him!
All that has life and breath, come now with praises before him.
Let the Amen sound from his people again;
gladly forever adore him.
