We need a lot more Republicans with the backbone of Sen. Rand Paul.

Sunday, in a remarkable interview, he pushed back forcefully against George Stephanopoulos’ insistence that he say the 2020 election was “not stolen.” As if any objective person, well-versed in what happened before, during and after Election Day, could say that with certainly.

Tuesday, on the Senate floor, Sen. Paul unloaded on Democrats bent on removing a President from office who is already gone. This speech preceded his point of order to affirm that the planned impeachment trial is unconstitutional, as the impeachment of a private citizen is illegal and “essentially, a bill of attainder.”

Sen. Paul appeared later Tuesday on FOX NEWS with Maria Bartiromo, who reported that the Senate had voted 55-45 to set aside his point of order. Still, with 45 senators on record saying this trial is unconstitutional, there won’t be a conviction and this is all just extremely divisive political theater.

"If you voted that it was unconstitutional,” Sen. Paul told POLITICO, “how in the world would you ever convict somebody for this? This vote indicates it’s over. The trial is all over.” And in a tweet, Paul said the House impeachment case is “dead on arrival.”

You can see the video of his speech here at POLITICROSSING, which also has a brief biographical piece on Sen. Paul.

The Kentucky senator opens by talking about what this trial will NOT do: “unify” the country. It does just the opposite of what Democrats claim to want to do. “Impeaching a former President, a private citizen, is the antithesis of unity,” Paul says. “Unity is the opposite of this travesty we’re about to witness.”

He points out that the appointment of a “pro-impeachment Democrat” to preside is neither fair nor impartial. And he’s right: Sen. Patrick Leahy –- whom I would add has ALREADY SAID he would vote to impeach –- is presiding instead of Chief Justice John Roberts, who opted out. The refusal of Chief Justice Roberts to participate is, in itself, enough to show this proceeding for the unconstitutional sham it is.

[Related news: on Tuesday, it was reported that Sen. Leahy, 80, was “feeling unwell” and taken to the hospital for examination and tests but returned home Tuesday night. No details were given. We pray for him and his family.]

"Hyper-partisan Democrats,” Paul says in his speech, “are about to drag our great country down into the gutter of rancor and vitriol the likes of which has never been seen in our nation’s history.”

Truly, I believe that if you don’t count the Civil War –- which seems to be the only worse time that comes to mind these days –- Paul is right in saying this is the most “uncivil” it’s been.

"It’s almost as if they have no ability to exist except in opposition to Donald Trump.”

Bingo –- and now that he’s gone, they will be aiming their venom at anyone who doesn’t share that opposition. Worse, they’ll feel totally self-righteous and “woke” about it.

Paul does a great job of contrasting Trump’s call for “peacefully and patriotically” making their way to the Capitol Building to some of the genuinely incendiary comments that have been made by Democrats.

"No Democrat will honestly ask whether Bernie Sanders incited the shooter that nearly killed Steve Scalise,” he says. Sen. Paul was there and saw that it easily could have become a massacre. “[The shooter] fervently believed the false and inflammatory rhetoric spewed by Bernie and other Democrats...[about Republicans opposing Obamacare wanting people to die].” Sen. Paul notes that when the shooter pulled the trigger, he screamed, “This is for health care!!”

Sen. Paul also cites Sen. Cory Booker, who called for his supporters to “get up in their face [of members of Congress],” and Rep. Maxine Waters, who told her supporters “that if you see a member of the Trump administration at a restaurant, at a department store, at a gas station, or any place, you create a crowd, and you push back on them.” Paul is right: Such words are a recipe for mob violence, and this type of rhetoric is one big reason why anyone working for Trump was asking for trouble (and still is) just stepping outside without protection. Because of the severity of the threats, my own daughter Sarah was the first White House press secretary ever to need Secret Service protection.

Paul describes the experience he and his wife had as they left a White House rally on foot, being bullied, screamed at and threatened with death “by the same type of mob that Maxine likes to inspire.” He says that when this happened, he wasn’t sure they’d come through it alive “even with the police protection.” (My wife and I were at that event and had a similar frightening experience, although not as dangerous as Sen. Paul’s.)

He reminds them that Republicans have endured this political climate without stooping to impeach Democrats for inciting violence. They haven’t held Democrats responsible for what Antifa and BLM did, even though that has resulted in deaths, many injuries, and over $1 billion dollars in damage from burning and looting. They haven't done it even though “many on the Democrat side cheered them on,” Paul says, with Kamala Harris even offering to pay the bill for those who got arrested.

"I wonder if she’ll be brought up on charges of inciting violence,” Paul said, “now that she’s Vice President.” No, he said, because the Republicans won’t go down that “low road of impeaching people for political speech.”

"I want the Democrats to raise their hands if they have ever given a speech that says ‘take back,’ ‘fight for your country.’ Who hasn’t used the word ‘fight’ figuratively...and are we going to impeach every politician who has used the word ‘fight’ figuratively in a speech? Shame --- shame on these angry, unhinged partisans for putting on this sham impeachment, deranged by their hatred of the former President. Shame on those who seek blame and revenge, and who choose to pervert a constitutional process while doing so.”

The speech runs just over 9 minutes. It’s a must-see, especially from the 7-minute point on, when he gets into “facts,” “truth” and the censorship of opposing views. This is “a dark blot on the history of our country,” Paul says. “I urge my colleagues to reconsider this kangaroo court and move forward to debate the great issues of our day.” Sen. Paul's words need to be remembered not only for their importance, but as a reflection of this period of mass political hysteria that we pray America can pull out of.

Make no mistake, it is hysteria. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz quipped to Sean Hannity on Tuesday night that “I feel like I’m kind of trapped in GROUNDHOG DAY, where, apparently, every January, we’re gonna be doing another impeachment.”

Mr. Huckabee you can say all you want about how dis-honest, hypocritical and utterly stupid the democrats and the main stream news media all are, but whatever they are doing and how they are doing it, they are winning. They have now won the House, the Senate and Presidency.
The democrats and the media continue to report false and biased information and they have done this for over 4 years now, but it's working the majority of America is listening to them and voting for them. I believe you are reporting truthfully and honestly and I respect you for that, but no matter how honest and truthful you are in your reporting it's not getting out. The majority of America believe the democrats and the media.
I remember Nancy Pelosi saying several weeks before the election that they (her and the democrats) would do everything they could whether it be legal or illegal to get President Trump out as president and I believe that is exactly what they did. No matter how much proof the Republicans and their Attorneys have come up with it was all thrown out and the democrats keep on winning.
Because of what the democrats have done during this election and if no wrongdoing can be ever be proven against them they will never lose another election.

Thank you, for keeping us informed. We appreciate hearing the truth. I agree we need more Republicans, to stand for our constitutional rights, like Senator Rand Paul. ????????????

The lunatic in chief in less than ten days is setting American energy independence back to the 1970s. Do his puppeteers have no knowledge of reality? Obama threw away billions of dollars of taxpayer money. Biden is moving in a rocket sled to make Obama look like a rookie at wasting tax dollars.

I have searched several organizations that report there were 128 million registered voters on October 30, 2020. 155 million votes were counted. Are we to believe 27 million people registered to vote and cast votes in a three day period of time?

Thanks for your continued work on reporting the truth and keeping us aware of our opportunities to keep American laws working for our citizens.

I agree 100% with you. Where is the "fire in the belly" to stand up for what is right with Republicans. Some of them remind me of the scene in "No Time for Sergeants" with the drill sergeant talks to Andy Griffith about they're in boats on this lake, his being the smallest boat, and not rocking the boat (don't make waves). Some of our Senators have been so ensconced in the Washington lifestyle that they don't have the backbone to make a stand. I have been reading the text of President Trump's speech (I'm almost finished.) and have yet to see anything close to inciting a riot. Here we go again with a sham that costs us taxpayers our hard-earned money so that Democrats can put on a show. For any Republican that supports this show, I will do whatever I can to support their opponent in their next primary.

Loved this summary and very proud of Senator Rand Paul. As an American I am so sick and tired of the Hate speech from people in Congress who should be serving the people who voted for them. I am tired of hearing Mrs. Obama tell us how difficult it was leaving the White House and giving over the power to Trump. For me she will go down in History as the First Lady of Hate.
We need more men and women with the courage and character of Senator Paul to tell it like it really is. The truth will set you free!
Good news--we have reached enough signatures in California to recall the governor on March ballot. We are not celebrating yet but we have been working silently to make this state great again!

Donald J Trump, the GREATEST President to EVER serve this country, took a LOT of UNNECESSARY BS as POTUS. And he is STILL getting UNNECESSARY BS. God has ALWAYS been loving and patient for putting up with mans BS, WAY longer than the people who abused President Trump. God would then lash out and do away with sinners after He constantly warned them. Just because you can’t see Him doesn’t mean He doesn’t exist. PRAY, and give HIM a chance. If HE can tell that you are are really sincere about praying for the GOOD in this world, change will happen. I know, because it happened to me. For YEARS, I was angry, defiant, sometimes mean, vengeful and not afraid to back down. All because I didn’t like to see people doing STUPID stuff or saying STUPID things. And all of this time, I couldn’t understand why I was being punished. I had three strokes, the first one I got better and continued living my old ways. That was 2013. Three years later, I had the second and third strokes, back to back, in the summer of 2016. I spent the WHOLE summer in rehab. PLENTY of time to think. My mom, God bless her and her perseverance, would mention God and Christianity whenever she thought I was patient enough to hear her words. But, being defiant and bullheaded stubborn, I would not listen. She had a saying on her refrigerator:

    NO JESUS
    NO PEACE
    KNOW JESUS
    KNOW PEACE

During that summer of 2016, which was the year that Trump was voted in as President, I thought of those words and the about those three strokes. I started praying to God and turning to God. I accepted Jesus as my savior. I felt a change spiritually. It wasn’t earth shattering in me personally, and it wasn’t noticeable to others. At first.

In the Bible, it says that God won’t answer your prayers when YOU want them answered, but only when HE is ready. I guess you could say that HE is independent. I think that HE is patiently waiting to be sure that you will persevere in your prayers.

Anyway, I continued to pray, and even started reading the Bible more. Over time, I really started noticing changes in my life. I didn’t swear at every little thing that went wrong. I became a LOT more patient. Not just with myself, but in every aspect of my life. And best of all, there is PEACE in me. All because I let Jesus into my life. That bold lettered saying that I stated here earlier is how I was, and now am, living my life. There was no Jesus in my life and no peace. Nothing but anger and frustrations. I KNOW JESUS, and I now KNOW PEACE. God IS the answer for EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE.

My devotional this morning said: there are two kinds of fear, Godly and Guilty. The one the dems are exhibiting is "guilty fear" which results in shifting blame or calling attention to another's wrong (or supposed wrong) to divert the focus from their own wrongs and lies to hide the truth. Hypocrites live with a constant fear of exposure which God can bring in surprising ways. Guilty fear will prompt "desperate" flight even when no one is pursuing. This is what seems to be happening with this sham of another impeachment of former President Trump.

I wish it were possible to thank Ms. Tubman and those who peacefully fought for equality. Our children do not really know the depth of these folks and how heroic they where.

I say, go ahead and have the impeachment trial. When all the actual “ evidence” comes out, it will simply make the Dem leadership look even sillier. Since the
Constitution says impeachment trials will be presided over by the Chief Justice, what standing can it have except for another Dem publicity stunt. What is with these people? When something doesn’t work you just need more of it.

I feel for the minority communities in the big cities. It will just be more of yes massa’, no massa” to the Dem leadership. There will be no self determination, no creativity allowed. Do what I say, or else. Conservatives have far more respect for the hardworking minority populations. Of course there are a few far right conservatives who are stupid and horrible, but true conservatives abhor them and ignore. Than goodness for the few who have the courage to stand up for what is true and right.

I know the Pope is a liberal but how in good conscience can he not excommunicate the likes of Joe and Nancy who support abortion publicly to the nth degree, among other things antithetical to the Roman Catholic faith.

Governor Huck, The limited intellect of some Members of Congress has become astounding! A.O. Cortez and the other members of the "Ding-Bats" and other Democrats should realize that any illogical actions they "force" through can and at some time come back around and bite them in the sitting position of their anatomy. What if the new State of D.C. chooses Republican or independent candidates?

I am very frightened that even one Republican voted against the request to call this impeachment trial unconstitutional. Some Republicans have turned on their own party. I'm struggling to decide if I can continue to support the RNC. Do we have enough strong Republican leaders to fight against against censorship, blacklisting , cancel culture, Big Tech? I feel betrayed. Big Tech is more powerful than our leaders and our President !

I truly do not see a way out of the Tyranical, treasonous leaders of the Dem party and Reps, who side with the Divisive govt. This behavior is none other than satanic and its a demonic spell that has the eyes and hearts of so many glazed with pure hatred. As they sit in ivory towers scoffing down their nose of the Americans, only to be devoured by the hate of the one they serve... I know this is biblically the Beginning of the End! The Best Is Yet To Come! Blessings.

Sen. Rand Paul gave a very illustrative speech which details the hypocrisy of "The Left" in particular and the "Democrat Party" in particular. I think an important point that could have been made (and you could and should be the person to do it) is that the basis for many religions, not all, the Deity (which in much of The United States' case is the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit) is Love. The Democrats in the past several years has an overriding spirit of Hatred as the basis and motivator of their attacks. This hatred is put forth in vicious lies, half truths, out of context statements and false emotions. The object of their hatred has responded (not always in the best way) with facts that are generally trying to "Make America Great Again". In general, he was reacting with love for this country and its people. I hope I have introduced the point the it has been an ongoing battle of 'love' verses 'hate' and in the ebb and flow 'hate' is winning because Satan has so many powerful individual people and organizations on that side. The powerful have indoctrinated the uninformed and apathetic by cancelling free speech and allowing only the communication of views consistent with their ideology.

Seen. Paul is right on. This trail is a mock trail of the left's hate for former President Trump's. I don't know or understand what kind of power the Congress has over private citzens, but I believe that Trump should have his people looking into just blowing this off and just take it to the courts.

You stated "He reminds them that Republicans have endured this political climate without stooping to impeach Democrats for inciting violence.

"I wonder if she’ll be brought up on charges of inciting violence,” Paul said, “now that she’s Vice President.” No, he said, because the Republicans won’t go down that “low road of impeaching people for political speech.”"

Why don't Republicans turn things around and try to impeach VP Harris for her "part" in the Antifa and BLM rioting and looting? Why don't they demand that Senators and/or Representatives resign over the Tweets, posts, and verbal things said that could "incite violence"? Isn't it time that Republicans stand up and treat the Democrats the way they have treated the Republicans. I think the Democrats have no fear because they know the Republicans will just take it or decide to not seek re-election. The Democrats are trying to scare anyone who doesn't believe the way they do. What can be done to stop this?
