BIBLE VERSE OF THE DAY
Democrats Pass $1.9 Trillion COVID-19 Relief/Stimulus Bill
By Mike Huckabee
Over the weekend, the Senate voted to pass the Democrats’ $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief/stimulus bill, only about 9% of which deals directly with fighting the coronavirus. That version of the bill now has to move to the House, where it's expected to pass. A White House spokesperson hailed it as “an incredibly transformational, frankly progressive piece of legislation," which is Washingtonspeak for “Hold on to your wallets and your tattered copy of the Bill of Rights.”
It’s the largest spending bill ever passed in US history; it’s stuffed with pork for Democrat interest groups like teachers’ unions, Planned Parenthood and bailing out long-mismanaged blue cities and for favored programs; and much of its spending doesn’t even take effect until 2022 or later, long after the virus will be gone. Sen. Pat Toomey said it’s really “about using a health crisis as an excuse to ram through a leftwing wish list.” Here's a rundown of how some of these “COVID relief” funds will actually be spent.
Liz Peek at Fox News also explains how it may actually endanger the recovery that’s already well underway (Friday’s jobs report showed 379,000 news jobs were added in March) and harm the economy in the long run.
Despite candidate Biden’s talk of bipartisanship, almost all Republican amendments were rejected (including those that would’ve kept checks from going to prison inmates and illegal immigrants), and it was rammed through Congress without a single Republican vote, passing the Senate 50-49.
(Alaska Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan is taking heat for leaving Friday to fly back to Alaska to attend a family funeral, although his absence didn’t affect the final vote, since a 50-50 tie would’ve been broken by Vice President Kamala Harris.)
Moderate Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin claimed it was bipartisan because Republicans “had a tremendous amount of input,” but little of it got included in the bill. He cited the cutting of the $15-an-hour minimum wage hike, but that was already ruled out by the Senate Parliamentarian; and the reduction of bonus unemployment pay from $400 a week to $300. But there was little else.
To illustrate the yawning media double standard on coverage, when $1200 stimulus checks were given out under Trump, the Washington Post ran an article about how that was “a really bad idea.” Now that Biden and the Democrats are giving out $1400 checks, WaPo’s fawning headline reads, “Biden showers money on Americans, sharply cutting poverty in defining move of presidency.”
By the way, I know that both the Biden White House and the writers at WaPo are unfamiliar with the way most people in America live, but a $1400 check after a year of having your business shut down or your job taken away does NOT “sharply cut poverty.” It gives you a small handout to help keep your head above water for a month or so, and people have already been waiting months for it.
If Biden really wanted to sharply cut poverty, he’d urge blue states to reopen their economies, stand up to China and stop signing idiotic executive orders that will result in skyrocketing fuel prices, more business-killing taxes and regulations, and a wave of illegal immigrants to take Americans jobs and drive down American wages. You know, like Trump was doing.
Cuomo Update: "Enough Is Enough"
By Mike Huckabee
The number of women making sexual harassment claims against New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is now up to five, and fellow Democrat and State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins says enough is enough, and it’s time for Cuomo to resign.
I would’ve hoped that killing thousands of seniors in nursing homes through an insane COVID-19 policy and lying to cover it up to avoid a DOJ investigation would’ve been enough, but this just adds to the ever-growing pile of reasons why it’s long past time for Cuomo to pack up his Emmy Award and vamoose.
Still, even though Stewart-Cousins has been joined by nearly 50 other New York lawmakers in calling for Cuomo to resign or be impeached, he’s refusing to go and says they’ll have to impeach him.
In light of all this, Andrew Stiles at the Washington Free Beacon does a retrospective review of Cuomo's self-aggrandizing book about how well he handled the COVID-19 crisis (sales have “ground to a near halt,” incidentally) and why, when his deadly arrogance and incompetence were so clear to many of us at the time, the media showered him with praise and only now is turning on him. Hint: Trump was in office then and had to be vilified, but he’s not there anymore so it’s “safe” for them to tell the truth again.
International Women's Day 2021
By Mike Huckabee
Today is the UN’s International Women’s Day.
So since we now know that gender is only a social construct, happy International Women’s and Men-Who-Identify-As-Women-So-They-Really-Are-Women’s Day.
Is Mitch McConnell retiring?
By Mike Huckabee
There’s a rumor going around that Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell might be thinking of retiring due to age and health reasons. It started with a story in The Intercept about Kentucky’s legislature considering a bill to strip the Democrat Governor of his power to appoint a replacement if one of Kentucky’s two Republican Senators quit or was incapacitated.
To set the record straight: McConnell has said nothing about retiring, and the bill was reportedly inspired by concerns about the recent assault on Kentucky’s other Senator, Rand Paul.
"White Pigs"
By Mike Huckabee
“We’re From Facebook, And We’re Here To Protect You!” Facebook’s bots slapped a “hate speech” warning on a post because it had a reference to “white pigs.” It was a post from an 81-year-old grandmother who likes to knit and she likes pigs, so she was knitting 100 stuffed piggies out of white yarn. Roll your eyes all you like, but I’ll bet someone on social media will find a way to actually be offended by that.
I'm still trying to decide if that first yarn was more ridiculous than YouTube temporarily banning a Russian chess master's channel for racist language because he talked about "black against white" chess strategy.
ICYMI: AINSWORTH: A DR. SEUSS PARODY, as he is canceled
By Laura Ainsworth, Staff writer
Happy Birthday to the late, beloved children’s writer, Dr. Seuss! Actually, his birthday was Tuesday, March 2, which in 1998 was dubbed in his honor “Read Across America Day.”
So, you’d think this would have been a good day for the memory of Dr. Seuss, author of HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS, THE CAT IN THE HAT, GREEN EGGS AND HAM, HORTON HEARS A WHO! and other classics. In stories like THE SNEETCHES, he directly addressed social issues such as racism and tolerance at a time when these concepts were largely ignored, emphasizing to children how, deep down, we as human beings transcend superficial differences.
However, he didn’t address racism in exactly the way “anti-racists” in 2021 say he should have. To leftists who are always moving the goal posts, Dr. Seuss wasn't "woke" enough and didn’t go far enough, offering only a general message of acceptance when he should have gone on to address “structural power imbalances.” And some of his drawings intended to suggest different ethnicities are interpreted as racist today, because of their exaggeration of some physical characteristics. This started with an accusation by the Southern Poverty Law Center, which condemned him for signs of “anti-Orientalism” and “anti-blackness.”
Dr. Seuss cannot defend himself, being, after all, dead. But anyone with half a brain –- this excludes most leftists, I realize –- who has read his books should know how he felt about race and see that this modern depiction of him is wrong. He wanted to show the absurdity of racism. Doesn’t matter –- Dr. Seuss was dis-honored and essentially canceled by President Biden on...yes, his birthday. His name was literally written out of the proclamation for this year’s “Read Across America Day.” And Dr. Seuss Business Enterprises, the business dedicated to preserving and protecting the author’s legacy, announced it would pull six of his books from publication due to “allegedly racist and insensitive imagery.” Details at the link.
Standards certainly do change; it was just six years ago that then-First Lady Michelle Obama participated in a Dr. Seuss reading with a roomful of kids in “Cat In The Hat” hats. Even President Obama, in a live appearance, cited the story THE SNEETCHES as one way to learn about racism and treating each other the same. Both Obamas have heaped praise on Dr. Seuss.
Ah, but now, in this age of “anti-racism,” we’re not supposed to treat each other the same.
If Dr. Seuss were still with us, he might agree that some of his artwork from decades ago seems stereotypical or unflattering today, and he might even want to revise them. Who knows? But he isn’t here. There has to be a way to treat classic books, such as these and others like Mark Twain’s masterpiece HUCKLEBERRY FINN, so that young people will see them in the context of their times and understand their intended messages AGAINST racism. But don’t expect public schools to do it.
If you want to see how twisted the racial messages to children have become, take a look at this story about a new Cartoon Network public service announcement.
Dr. Seuss never could have anticipated how leftists in the 2020s are trying to force change in our culture.
Never one to let a good parody opportunity go to waste, I decided to write one in honor of Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel), who would have been 117 on Tuesday, March 2.
HOW THE LEFT STOLE READING
(a parody of HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS)
by Laura Ainsworth
Every kid down in Kidville liked reading a LOT
But the Left, who controlled education, did NOT!
They wouldn’t say why, but we all know one reason:
To read the wrong book means you’re guilty of treason
They also just hated the folks on the Right
They said we’re oppressors –- at least, if we’re white
But I think that the most likely reason of all
May have been that their brains were two sizes too small
Whatever the reason, their brains or their hate
They cancelled the books that they deemed out of date
They stared at the kids from their i-vory tower
While focusing all of their brainwashing power
“We can’t let them read Dr. Seuss!” they’d exclaim
We have to get started erasing his name
We’ll target six books with some troublesome art
While keeping in mind that it’s only the start
“Kids LOVE Dr. Seuss!” said the folks on the Right
They knew they were facing a censorship fight
“He taught children how to be loving and kind
And how they could grow up to be ‘color-blind’”
“Color-blind??!” screamed the left, their eyes practically bleeding
We MUST find a way to keep children from reading!
To think, the un-wokeness their minds could retain
They’re reading the Bible! They’re reading Mark Twain!
“And old Dr. Seuss, he’s the worst of the lot
If kids want to read him, we’ll say they must NOT!
We’ll say he’s a bigot and lacks credibility
And give all the children that book WHITE FRAGILITY
“We’ll find all the books that aren’t focused on race
And gather them up, and we’ll hide them someplace
We’ll substitute books that reflect our obsession
With transgender studies and racial oppression
The kids down in Kidville would all cry boo-hoo
When they found out what leftists decided to do
The fun books were gone, and they felt really sad
The white kids were taught they deserve to feel bad
But parents arose, they had had quite enough
They fought for their kids, and it got pretty rough
They went to the School Board, and all had their say
And their courage and heart grew three sizes that day!
They brought back the books that the left had rejected
And made sure that freedom of speech was protected
The books were all safe and were put to good use
And we, ourselves, honor the ones...by...Dr. Seuss!
Solomon: Durham has "big break" in "very active criminal case"
By Mike Huckabee
When John Durham left his position as U.S. attorney last week, many assumed this was the Biden administration’s way of cutting short his investigation into the FBI and “Crossfire Hurricane.” And you can bet that’s what they’d like it to be. Fortunately, though, in anticipation of that inevitable move, President Trump "promoted" Durham to special counsel, ensuring that his investigation of the FBI would continue no matter who was in the Oval Office. And now, John Solomon reports that Durham has had a big break in the case.
The story of “Crossfire Hurricane” has gone on so long –- five interminable years –- that, judging from the letters I receive, most Constitution-loving conservatives have given up hope that perpetrators at the FBI (and CIA, and State Department) will ever face legal consequences for creating an investigation of a major-party political candidate out of whole cloth. Whenever Republicans see an update, they roll their eyes and say, “Sure, right.” But according to Solomon, in an interview Sunday with Maria Bartiromo, Durham has seen a breakthrough by way of one FBI agent who is now cooperating.
"It’s a very active criminal case,” Solomon said, “a lot of witnesses, a lot of negotiation with lawyers. The big news is that a former member of the Comey-McCabe inner circle, one of the senior FBI executives --- I don’t know which one yet --- one of them has begun cooperating, and that’s opened up a tremendous amount of internal knowledge, being able to describe the nuances of evidence. Very big breakthrough for John Durham.”
Solomon said it’s “absolutely true” that there was no predicate for starting “Crossfire Hurricane.” He said Durham has a big question to answer, and it seems to me the answer is obvious: “If you open a false investigation and you sustain it with false evidence, does that amount to a crime?”
Durham would have to have permission from Biden’s DOJ to indict, so this could get very interesting. “All the signs are that they’re moving towards criminal charges,” Solomon said.
He posted a report Sunday showing how cozy the FBI’s relationships were with the media, and how inaccurate the news stories based on their self-professed “leak strategy” often were.
Yes, it’ll make you sick: Senior FBI officials under Comey and McCabe were on a first-name basis with reporters at THE NEW YORK TIMES, CNN, THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, and ABC NEWS. Thousands of text messages declassified over the past three years show our agents agonizing over the storylines that were appearing in the press after they’d leaked information to them.
The media seemed at least as eager as the FBI to smear Trump with the negative stories and would exaggerate leaked information. Peter Strzok complains at one point that a TIMES story had gotten it wrong. “We are unaware of ANY Trump advisers engaging in conversations with Russian intel officials,” he texts. “Our coverage has not revealed contact between Russian intelligence officers and the Trump team.”
Of one mistake in the media, an agent is quoted as saying, “I’m glad it was so superficial. If they decide to start digging deep, we are screwed on trying to protect some of our stuff related to that case.”
Lisa Page writes back, “My guess is that we ‘suggest’ a good news story about the [Bureau]. To remind people hat we are still the good guys trying to keep America safe, and not political operatives who sway elections.”
Ha, that’s a good one. They actually WERE political operatives swaying an election, but they didn’t want it told in the media that way. The FBI might have cared about their OWN reputation, but they didn’t bother to correct the fake stories about Trump and just let his new administration be damaged by them.
In fact, when interviewed by Solomon, former intel chief of the FBI Kevin Brock (“really respected across the political aisle”) said that after seeing all that he has seen in the past year, the ONLY explanation he’s left with for why the FBI continued to sustain the “Trump/Russia” investigation when all the signs pointed to shutting it down is this: political bias.
Keep in mind, Durham’s investigation is important not just for accountability of those involved with “Crossfire Hurricane,” but also because the FBI is still involved in larger power struggles. For example, there are huge questions about what they knew before the January 6 breach of the Capitol Building. Former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe said the FBI had information ahead of time that should have allowed them to prevent it.
They’ve since used the breach as a pretext for outlandish, banana republic-style security measures and even for using a “geofencing” tool to strip data out of a particular location during that event. They scooped up records from members of Congress that showed no connection to any of the rioters, but, as Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz said to Bartiromo:
"If the legislative branch of government can be swept into a massive collection effort by political actors at the FBI and Department of Justice, just imagine what they can do to regular Americans that they want to target for their politics.”
He elaborated: “So it’s Donald Trump one day, members of Congress the next, but it won’t be long before the FBI becomes like every other agency of government, targeting their opponents, helping their friends, and we have to point out...that you’ve got Hunter Biden’s lawyer’s law partner who is now leading the criminal division in the United States Department of Justice. It should remove any sense of objectivity or credibility to the work that they’re doing.”
He pointed out that Nancy Pelosi’s appointment of Lt. Gen. Russel Honore to do the post-January 6 security review is like “having Gov. Andrew Cuomo do your sexual harassment policy review.” The way Honore is conducting this, Gaetz said, ignores basic due process. Honore even called for Sen. Josh Hawley to be disbarred, he noted.
A review is supposed to start with the facts and let those facts drive the investigation. You don’t start with your desired political outcome and then try to “reverse engineer” by the way you gather the facts.
You don’t? We're talking about Washington DC, right?
Since Republicans have so little power right now, Gaetz said, the best we can do is “go out and tell the American people that these exercises have no credibility. “They are not about law enforcement,” he said, “they are not about some upcoming, renewed attack on the Capitol. Remember when we were told that March 4 would be this cataclysmic, apocalyptic day and it turned out to be nothing? But they are trying to create a constructed threat to justify the continued occupation of our capital city...”
In other words, out of political bias, Democrat legislators and their eager accomplices are still as busy as ever creating false narratives. That’s why it’s important that the Obama FBI doesn't get away with "Crossfire Hurricane."
