There’s a key difference between how those on the right and the left view the economy and the role of the government. We’re experiencing the stark contrasts as the Biden administration carries out its policies that lean to the left—in some cases to the far left.

Here are some basic truths about how the economy works. The rule of supply and demand says that if the demand is higher than the supply, prices go up. So if a lot of people want a car or a house but there is a low inventory of cars and houses, the prices will go up. The more demand, the higher the price. That’s true for gasoline, groceries, or gravel. Conversely, if there is a huge supply and little demand, prices will plummet. This is true of labor as well. If there are lots of help wanted signs and job openings but not many workers willing to take the jobs, employers will have to bid up the wages and pay more. But they may try to function with fewer employees, which in the long run means fewer jobs.

Another truth is that taxes taken by the government mean less money for a family or a business. We need taxes to pay for essential services and functions, whether having a military, having airports, waterways, police departments, fire trucks, roads and highways, parks, or sewer systems. But whatever the government does for you, it takes FROM you to do it. If they do stuff you don’t want or need, it costs you in real money. That’s money you don’t keep to buy clothes for your teenager, buy food, pay your housing costs or utilities, or put gas in your car.

When prices go up but wages don’t, that’s inflation. Inflation is a silent tax on you. If the cost of your electricity, gasoline, food, building supplies, and the cost of labor goes up, you have less money left to do things you want to do and less money to buy things you want to buy. The decrease in what you can afford to buy leads to fewer things being sold, which means fewer things will be manufactured and transported which means some people who made, shipped, or sold those things will lose their jobs. Everyone gets hurt by inflation and we are seeing a uptick in inflation right now under the policies of the Biden administration and the Democrats in Congress. Those on the left believes that government should do more to redistribute the money in the economy by taking more from the people who have worked and giving it to those who either didn’t work or who didn’t earn as much as others. Sometimes government promises to “do things” for people for providing “FREE college or childcare.” But it isn’t free at all. The government will have to take more of your money to pay for it. And when taxes are higher, you have less money. And your employer has less money. You can’t buy things you want and your employer can’t increase your wages or benefits. And a store can’t afford to put more items on the shelf which means fewer things are ordered, fewer things are shipped, and fewer things are made. Get the picture? Good, because the folks on the left don’t seem to. They truly believe they can spend your money better than you can. If you actually believe that, you will love those who govern from the left. If you believe you’d spend your money better than the government would, then you’ll want to vote for people on the right.

It’s really not that complicated. How you vote will determine how you live. Elections do have consequences. And if you’ve bought gasoline, clothes, food or planned a vacation lately, I hope you’ve noticed the consequences!

It’s not just along the border that Texans are having to deal with illegal immigrants. We live just south of San Antonio, almost 200 miles from border, and we have issues with vehicles being stolen and our properties being run through when law enforcement are chasing them. Also migrants are being dropped at bus stations in San Antonio.

Mike, your newsletter always provides a needed factual perspective.
Let's go with "illegal non citizens".

Thanks for the news letter. On the story about the legal fight between TX Gov. Abbott and the DOJ, it seems that words are being misused.
There is NO law- passed by Congress- allowing the influx of illegal migration. How can the DOJ accuse TX of interfering with federal law? What is happening on the border is actually treason as the president has allowed by EO the invasion of our nation and the spread of disease.

Comment please on the treason charge,

    Catherine

I don't get it. Why are they called "illegal" aliens if they're not breaking the law by crossing the border improperly? If they are illegals, are they breaking Federal law? If so, isn't President* Biden pledged to enforce that law? If so, how can the federal government in good faith sue Texas for enforcing their constitutional job in the face of their recalcitrance? I'd just as soon indict President* Biden for treason—which seems more appropriately to address the real issue.

    Governor Huckabee,
This article fit's nicely with my personal feelings. I strongly feel what's mine us mine and what's not is not. Although, we are very charitable and give each month to individuals and organizations that fit our view points. I am more than willing to give someone a hand up but, not a hand out. I don't want the government, state or federal taking from me to give to those unwilling to earn their own way.
My personal life's story started at 21 years old, newly married and working a minimum wage job in 1976. We made it work with no federal or state assistance. I guess I was too proud to accept that kind of help. I changed jobs along the way, always making better wages and slowly worked our way up out of the poverty (that we didn't recognize) we were in. We simply lived on what we earned. I retired from my last job making a solid middle class income in 2017 and we are completely debt free. Now my wife and I are comfortably retired and not lowering our lifestyle to do so.
I have no desire to have my retirement income compromised by higher cost of living or higher taxes. I earned every penny if it and I wish to keep it.

Thank you for a great reminder of the economics 101 lesson. I am afraid that economics has been left out in many education institutions. You summed it up quite nicely. I hope I can repost giving you appropriate credit. Thanks for keeping us informed.

Love your newsletter. I look forward to it everyday. My family and friends cannot understand why the Republican Party is not impeaching Joe Biden. He is not up holding his oath of office at all. Why isn’t all this socialism and criminal activities stopped. Where is the Supreme Court in all these laws being broken. Very worried and upset about the future of our country

You are so right, our gas has jumped so much with Biden, twice a week i go out and both times it increases! Our gas is now $3.91.9, $3.96.9, and diesel $3.85.9. a loaf of bread is 1.59, a gallon of milk depending on what you buy is like 4.09 a gallon and the other grocery prices are going up every time I go to the store! My REALESTATE taxes raised about 17.1% in my area. Our sales tax went up, my car insurance went up, my electric, water, garbage rates all went up! The list goes on! JUST SINCE BIDEN GOT IN! Plus on Jan. 2016 when the Dems started their crap on Trump, I personally vowed I would never vote ever again for a democrat and i haven't and I got a email from a de hat I have voted for for years and I replied And told her about never voting for another Dem ever again, so when we got our voting book and ballot for Aug 3, the candidates never said whether they were Dem or republican so you wouldn't know who was running but they usually always do so you had to search to find out, AND I DID! I used to be a democrat just like my parents were, but the party has totally changed! I never voted either time for Obama either time because I didn't trust his smooth talking and thank God every day! God bless every one! God bless you Mike for telling the truth, since we can't get it from the left media!

I am surprised that the 2 biggest factors for me as a senior on on a fixed income; food and fuel, are not considered when figuring out the inflation rate.
