“I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order --- respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!”

President Trump tweeted this in response to the violence that erupted Wednesday at the Capitol Building, when some “Trump supporters” broke through barricades and stormed the building, breaking windows, getting rough with police in the halls, even entering the House chamber. As this is being written, news has just broken that one of the people who got shot in the melee has died.

Trump is right: we ARE the party of law and order, but I think most of us will agree that he needs to be a lot tougher in his condemnation of this. The same can be said of the video statement he released. Of course, virtually every news outlet who posted his tepid “go home” video had to editorialize, saying that Trump “repeated false claims” of election fraud. Facebook took it down.

So did YouTube.

Trump also tweeted this on Wednesday: “Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution, giving States a chance to certify a corrected set of facts, not the fraudulent or inaccurate ones which they were asked to previously certify. USA demands the truth!”

Well, yes, Mr. President, but in the USA, at least those of us on the right, also demand that the Constitution be meticulously followed. Vice President Pence obviously was doing what he thought was right concerning his role in this. We may disagree with him –- numerous constitutional experts do, and Alan Dershowitz isn’t sure –- and you obviously disagree with him, but please, right now, stay out of that process and stop pressuring him.

Trump told his supporters to go home, but no reaction to this violence is complete without a total, vociferous condemnation. We all condemned the truly awful violence coming from the Democrat side this summer when their party and the media (but I repeat myself) failed to do it. In this case, it’s just as wrong, no matter who is behind it.

We are aghast at this.

I attended the Save America Rally today and it was a very peaceful event. No one has been able to say with certainty whether the woman who was shot was a MAGA protester or represented Antifa. If she was the latter there will almost certainly be a coverup. Trump is not responsible for the actions of deranged lunatics. He had an election stolen from him and tens of thousands of Patriots see that for what it is, a coup d’etat against his Presidency.

President Trump has no one to blame in all of this except himself and his indiscriminate motor mouth. That’s what lost him this election by millions of voters who would not vote for him again. And it has probably served to generate this kind of mindless demonstration that mimics that if the left domestic terrorists and does not represent those of us who respect the rule of law. We need reasoned people of integrity to serve us no matter the party politic.

A sad end to a very productive Presidency. It started badly with The Resistance and ended with anarchists in the Capitol. But there were certainly historic accomplishments in between.

You are missing the point. Pence should have sent it back to the states and he didn’t. He is a coward. And our country is lost. Millions of us will simply never vote again. What would be the point?! We will NEVER have a fair election again if this fraud is permitted to stand. Shame on you for defending Pence. And shame on Pence for stabbing us all in the backs. We are lost. Our constitutional republic is lost.

I believe ANTIFA was there as MAGA supporters and I’m sure there were very frustrated MAGA supporters too. I believe there is a second revolution coming because of way this election went and how Washington has become. We have to remember there was no negotiation with King George could this be our Boston Tea Party? One can only pray for a safe outcome

Yes the violence is wrong. But I don't have any more sympathy for the lawmakers than I do the poor business owners across America that have been victims of it all year. We should not tolerate violence in any place in America anywhere, rather than get excited about it when the very people that could have been doing something about it, now fall victim too.

Mike, I completely agree with your points and sentiment. This was a terrible attack on our Republic. I would just make one further comment and would like a response. The leaders of this Capitol takeover were ANTIFA not the ‘deplorables’ (although I’m sure there were right wing extremists involved as well.

I wonder how many of those people conducting the violence itself are true Trump Supporters. Regardless who is involved this is totally inexcusable conduct and should not be tolerated by anyone who supports the Constitution of the United States. If those of you conducting yourselves in this manner are truely Trump supporters, you should desist immediately and leave; You do not reflect the value of True law-and-order Trump Patriots.

Why is it we get 4 years of investigations re Russia collusion and yet no one is willing to truly addressing the blatant and obvious fraud occurring in our nation?!? Once again, I believe you have the right take on these actions today. I do have a question. At what point must we take physical action to protect our constitution and the country? If all legal options have been used, then only illegal options are left. While I do believe we are in a true war for our constitution, I would hope I would never be required to take physical action, but I must also believe those who have in the past ( Revolutionary War, both of the World Wars, etc.) never wanted wanted to either.
Voting is no longer a viable way to legally change (or keep) any of our leaders. This leaves the thieves on the left to run our country and destroy it along with the constitution. Thoughts?

Thank you for calling this out! Being “conservative” used to mean something and honest, moral courage, selflessness were all part of it. Sir, Trump has proven to be a narcissistic despot. Maybe he’s been useful to certain causes or policies but he’s amoral, and now dangerous. He will take down the GOP conservative movement by defiling it....
This is not Godly. This is not healthy. Time to wake up.

I’m sorry but I didn’t see any of the democrats saying the antifa or blm was wrong or calling for their parties leader to speak out. I guess we didn’t expect much from him since he can’t speak. I sure expect more fro pence than wearing a blue tie and acting as if he’s waving the white flag! Then just bc msm says it was Trump supporters we are told that’s who it was but nothing about the antifa thugs that were there! Then we have ppl acting as if we should just bow down! Well republicans have been bowing for how long? The left has never and will never give!
