After six votes Wednesday, holdouts were still refusing to back Rep. Kevin McCarthy, and the House voted to adjourn and reconvene later today. Reports are that negotiations continued last night with some possible progress. The New York Times, citing confidential sources, claims that McCarthy “privately agreed to more demands from the right-wing rebels that he had previously refused to countenance, including allowing a single lawmaker to force a snap vote at any time to oust him from the speakership.”

McCarthy has offered an astounding number of concessions, listed here by Victoria Taft at PJ Media.

The Club For Growth has also reportedly cut a deal with a super PAC associated with McCarthy that could result in them endorsing him as Speaker.

Fox News has comments from Florida Rep. Byron Donalds, the latest alternative proposed for McCarthy.

As noted in the article, until there’s a Speaker, the new House can’t even be sworn in, so this is preventing necessary action from being taken on many fronts.

McCarthy’s detractors still have no alternative candidate who is more conservative and can attract enough votes to win. They keep pointing to the last time conservatives forced McCarthy to withdraw in 2015, but back then, a dark horse “unity” candidate stepped forward and won. Considering that was Paul Ryan, whom they now vilify as a squishy, Trump-hating RINO, it’s not exactly a ringing endorsement for this strategy.

This is a continuing (and continuing!) story, so keep checking the regularly updated Fox News feed for the latest developments.

One thing to note:  While the 10% wants to rule over the 90% (who has ever allowed that or thought it was the way elections work?), it’s revealing that some of the holdouts have said in interviews that what they are “demanding” of Kevin McCarthy is that they get choice committee assignments and a promise they won’t be punished for their attempted coup.  That’s not only delusional, but very telling.  If a person is objecting by sheer principle, one is willing to suffer whatever the consequences for the rebellion.  When a person says, “Hey, this is about ME…protecting MY position, MY role in leadership, and MY being able to take any shot I want at 90% of my colleagues and have no consequence other than being rewarded.”  THAT my friend is NOT acting on “principle.”  It’s a selfish act of a power grab and publicity stunt.  Reward THAT behavior and you’ll keep getting more of it in the future.

    Mr. Huckabee,
I must respectfully disagree with you on several points:
    1) McCarthy, as either a present or current member of the WEF, does NOT inspire much confidence in his principles (the WEF is NOT the USA’s friend, and it’s agenda is nowhere near to the principles that founded this nation).
    2) His voting record has been mostly on the moderate to left of moderate, in comparison to the overall Republican Party, and does not reflect the majority of the conservative base.
    3) He has been (& most likely is) part of the SWAMP; his presumptive move into the Speaker’s office was arrogant; furthermore, he has made statements about all that he’s done to “deserve” the position.
    4) The 19+/- “holdouts” have valid reasons for doubting that his leadership will advance the WILL OF THE PEOPLE, as he has done a lot of “reaching across the aisle” & voted to pass bloated legislation that is contrary to conservative fiscal policy.

I could go on about how he exhibits behavior that is the typical of an elitist career politician, but the conservatives I talk to do not trust him. He says one thing & does another. Chip Roy of Texas is one of the few that actually represents his constituents, and has valid reservations about McCarthy. Maybe you should ask him to be on your show? His candor & willingness to speak up in the face of opposition (especially to deny the SWAMP DWELLERS) is quite refreshing - I only wish that we had more like him in DC.
    Best of regards!

Don't hate the fight for Speaker...yet. I'm still kicking myself in the rear for not buying Raytheon
(which used to be Hughes, and swallowed up General Dynamics in TX, and other missile makers, until they centralized everything in Tucson (bad idea) and now make most of our 'arsenal'...when all this started. Gio ahead and get your gold from Rosland Capital; I'm buying reloading equipment.

Mike, you are wrong on this one. Like Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy is a pathetic loser who needs to be dumped. Otherwise, lots of us will refuse to vote for the GOP in the future.

    Mike,
I disagree with your assessment of those standing “tall” for US Americans fed up with the status quo.

I was very disappointed that you sided with the people calling the 20 holding back the vote for McCarthy detractors. It's the other 201 that don't have the balls to buck the system and elect someone that will actually work with them to fix this Country. Yes there is controversy, that's what it's about, not following along like a bunch of sheep and falling off the cliff. I usually agree with you, this time I do not, gotta love that freedom to agree to disagree in this country. Good Bless!

The frustrating thing for me as a Republican voter is that the party has become laughing stock with an inability to be unified . This does not signal or promote a position of strength or stability for our party . I know that if this were the Democrats, that they’d hang together to protect their agendas and positions. I am so dismayed at the direction of our country and it is difficult to be optimistic while watching this debacle. I pray for supernatural wisdom for our leaders . May God have mercy !

Do you think it's true that McCarthy people have been threatening the "rebels"??? They are not terrorists - they are trying to change/get rid of the swamp.
