In a job that Democrats told us was impossible, ICE arrested another 538 illegal aliens on Thursday, bringing the total so far to about 1200 in four days, over a thousand of them being known criminals. Here are some of the things they were wanted for, as they were walking around free in American “sanctuary cities” while peaceful pro-life protesters sat in prison.

While Democrat politicians may be howling over the arrests, many of their citizens are cheering. One ICE agent said a woman in Boston came up and thanked them after watching them arrest an illegal alien criminal who’d been terrorizing her neighborhood.

A video of a Haitian illegal alien who was handcuffed and taken away in Boston went viral after he shouted, “Thank Obama for everything he did for me, bro” and “F*** Trump! Biden forever!” (We have bad news for him.) He also declared that he was not going back to Haiti. Border czar Tom Homan had this response: “Well, he’s wrong. He’s going back to Haiti. I can tell him that.”

As expected, Trump opponents in 22 states and two cities rushed to a federal judge to get a block put on his executive order ending birthright citizenship for the children of illegal aliens. The judge called it “blatantly unconstitutional.”

This was treated as a huge loss for Trump by the media, but it was actually completely expected. We’re sure Trump always knew this would have to go to the Supreme Court, which has never ruled on this issue (the only previous case involved Chinese parents who were permanent residents, not illegal immigrants.)

Pardon us if we’re skeptical when Trump-hating liberals tell us what the 14th Amendment clearly says. Less than a year ago, they were telling us that it clearly said Trump couldn’t be on the 2024 Presidential ballot. How did that work out for them?

We’re not attorneys, but we’ve read a number of expert opinions pro and con. Kurt Schlichter, who is a longtime practicing attorney, said he leans toward the birthright citizenship view, but he could be convinced in the other direction. If anyone cares about original intent, the Amendment was written to prevent Southern states from denying citizenship to former slaves and their children; a Senator who helped write it said that it wasn’t meant to apply to illegal aliens or children of foreign diplomats. And Thomas Jefferson said, “Aliens are the subject of a foreign power,” which would clearly exclude them under the language of the 14th Amendment.

But there’s no point in arguing over this until it gets to the Supreme Court, where opponents of Trump’s EO will argue that this is settled law and can’t be overturned, just like they did with Roe v. Wade. Meanwhile, if you’d like to bone up on the history and arguments in this case, here’s a good article all about it from The Federalist Blog.
