By now, I’m sure you’ve seen the tragic and disturbing police video of the shooting death of Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old black man detained in a traffic stop in a Minneapolis suburb on Sunday.

Wright’s death appears to be the result of a series of tragic mistakes and bad decisions. He was reportedly pulled over for having expired license plates, although his car did have temporary plates. When it was discovered that he had an outstanding warrant and police began to arrest him, he started fighting and tried to escape. A female officer pulled out what she thought was a taser (she can be heard on video shouting “Taser!”), but was actually a pistol and she mistakenly fired and killed him.

In a city already on edge over the Derek Chauvin trial, it’s set off two nights of violence and looting so far (although reporters seemed more concerned about the police chief calling it “rioting” than in the victims of the obvious rioting.)

Some sources are trying to paint this as police targeting a black person, but the arresting officer was also black, and it seems clear that the killing was a horrible mistake. Yes, there should be an investigation, and the officer who made that mistake should face consequences. But there is no rational justification to conclude that it was a deliberate, racist killing, and certainly no justification to burn down and loot the businesses of people who had nothing to do with it.

Frankly, I’m tired of hearing people chant “No justice, no peace!” when they obviously have no interest in either. They have become rabid exponents of mob rule and such enemies of the rule of law that the local city manager was fired just for saying that everyone deserves due process and the officer shouldn’t be fired before an investigation.

Note that the story quotes a city council member who says the city manager was doing a great job and she respects him personally, but she voted to fire him out of fear of reprisals from protesters if she didn’t. There’s the city government openly admitting that the mob now runs greater Minneapolis and not the elected officials.

If you oppose due process rights for all, if you demand punishment before an investigation, if you believe angry mobs should be in charge of cities, and if you believe your anger justifies you looting and burning a business and destroying the dreams and livelihoods of completely innocent people, then please stop telling us that you demand justice if we want peace. You are an enemy of both.

I read you because you are in the truth as well as telling the truth. I sometimes feel you know more than say. I believe it has become apparent that the Democrats are not interested in you or I or the law. Their goal is to destroy the country and the Constitution. The major concern for those of us who believe we are a country of law is; where is the judiciary ? We have a major political party involved in blatant illegal activity subverting our Constitution and a Judiciary that is absent on every level.
With the education system educating (From K through College) in Marxist philosophy since the ‘60’s, I would say we had better get on our knees and pray.
God bless you. We need a few million more of you.

This country is so screwed. We might have had a chance to correct course with Trump, but not with Biden and the other liberal nut-jobs running things.

This is very well written and this is what is so wrong in America today . there is just too much tolerance for evil people behaving badly. All people make mistakes and this police officer should not be so punished for a terrible mistake. This mistake does not entitle others to behave like terrorists. Every one of them should be prosecuted. The police officer is already paying for her mistake she should be left alone in peace

A good citizen abides the laws; follows the law enforcement instructions, and would not end in tragic death! To the police, why not aim to the legs of the thugs to stop them rather than kill them?

I am sick of police officers being charged with crimes while dealing with criminals who resist arrest. It was an accident that she had pulled her pistol instead of the taser, but if he hadn't fought his was free to climb back in the car to try to escape she wouldn't have needed the taser of the gun. These bastard street urchins of all colors need to get civilized. They say its racist.... the only reason more blacks are arrested is because there are more black thugs.

Clean up your community and teach people how to be PARENTS... NOT BREEDERS.

You are exactly right Huckabee. They should be held accountable for their actions.

The race of anyone in this is immaterial. I support good law enforcement and recognize that corruption or incompetence in law enforcement is not only a danger to the public but law enforcement as well. These actions in this case unless other evidence appears that this was deliberate appears to be criminal incompetence. Since law enforcement officers are highly trained and should be required to have better judgment and skills than a civilian at this point be charged second degree murder, there's absolutely no excuse for her actions. These situations cause escalation of PD encounters not deescalation. Bad cops make good cops dead. They are a inexcusable risk for both the public and Law enforcement. For the safety of all this has to stop.
