Speech Police Ban More Words For The New Year

By Pat Reeder

In the play/movie “Inherit the Wind,” the lawyer character Henry Drummond tells someone who is offended by his swearing that “Language is a poor enough means of communication. We’ve got to use all the words we’ve got. Besides, there are d**n few words anybody understands."

With so many people these days constantly trying to signal their nonexistent virtue by finding new words to be offended by and demanding they be banned, we’ll be lucky if we don’t end 2021 with no means left to communicate aside from grunts and finger gestures. I know which finger gesture I will reserve for these people.

To help you survive in the Brave New World of 2021, here are the latest no-no words from the PC set:

Dictionary.com already issued a list of words they wanted banned, along with some suggested bland, vague, awkward euphemisms that will earn you a lot of weird looks if you use them, like a space alien trying to blend in with humans but not doing a very good job of it.

Among the words that they are terrified might offend certain identify groups (although I’ve never heard any actual members of these groups complain) are “ninja,” “guru” (guess I now have to be the “Huckabee” “pop culture doyen”), “Nazi” (but what will people like them call anyone to the right of AOC?!), “bingeing” (because saying that you “binge-watched” “Friends” might offend people with eating disorders – like the cast of “Friends”), and “hysterical.”

Why “hysterical”? Because the female root of the word means you would be stepping into “problematic (talk about a word that needs to be baned), sexist territory due to the history of the term.” They smugly add, “Plus, have you ever heard a man being called hysterical?…We’re guessing not.”

Funny, every time I hear that word, this is what immediately springs to mind, and yes, it involves a man:

After editing all those common terms from your vocabulary, you might feel the need for a relaxing drink. If so, don’t you dare go to a tiki bar! The New York Times (speaking of terms that I find offensive) has declared tiki bars to be racist cultural appropriation that must be eradicated. The Times writer must be the only person on Earth who thinks that tiki bars are meant to reflect any actual culture other than fun, midcentury kitsch.

As the pineapple slice on my drinking glass might say, "Bite me." Laura and I live in a 1955 house that we restored to a style she calls “Midcentury Rainforest.” We have a tiki god fountain on our patio. My closet is divided into two sections: 1/3 suits, dress shirts, pants and sweaters, and 2/3rds Hawaiian shirts. And it's going to stay that way.

If any whining PC snowflakes from the New York Times dares to lay one finger on any of our tiki stuff, I will give the command to one of our twelve rescued parrots to remove said finger from your hand. When they’re done with you, you’ll be running to the nearest tiki bar for a big coconut shell full of anesthetic.

"Huckabee" Preview

By Mike Huckabee

It’s a new year (at last!), and we’ll kick it off right tonight with a great new episode of “Huckabee” on TBN. My guests include House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and pastor/TV host/author Sam Collier. You’ll meet a Huck’s Hero whose miraculous salvation from addiction inspired her to help other women out of the trauma of addiction, violence and trafficking. We’ll also have plenty of laughs from cowboy comedian William Lee Martin, and take a look back at some moments from 2020 that are really worth remembering. And we’ll cap it off with the music of hot young country singer, Riley Green!

It all starts tonight at 8 and 11 EST, 7 and 10 CST, and Sunday at 9 EST/8 CST, on TBN. To find out where you can watch TBN, from local cable and broadcast channels to streaming, visit https://www.huckabee.tv and click on “Channel Finder” on the top menu. COVID-19 Hypocrite Round-up, Cont’d

By Mike Huckabee

A member of the Chicago Teachers’ Union board sent a tweet encouraging teachers not to show up for work on Monday because it’s too dangerous to leave their homes (like “essential workers” have for many months) and get back to teaching kids. Turns out the tweet was sent from her Caribbean vacation in Puerto Rico, where she was lounging at poolside and going out to seafood restaurants.

As infuriating as her hypocrisy might be, on the bright side, I’m very happy to learn that COVID-19 is not a threat in Puerto Rico.

Bonus Hubris Points: Notice that her Twitter moniker is “Sarah4justice.” I’d love to hear how it represents “justice” for kids to suffer longterm damage from being forced to stay home from school while their teachers’ union bosses are partying it up in Puerto Rico.

Georgia Senate Update

By Mike Huckabee

The all-important Georgia Senate run-off is just days away, and here’s a hint as to how vicious it’s getting: the campaign of Democrat John Ossoff accused Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler of campaigning with a KKK member, based on a photo of her standing next to white supremacist Chester Doles.

Loeffler’s campaign spokesman fired back that Doles was just one of countless rally attendees who line up for photos; and if they’d known who he was, he would’ve been kicked out (I can sympathize: I hope I'm not held responsible for everything ever said and done by everyone who's ever asked to take a photo with me.) He said, “It’s not surprising coming from a pathological liar like Jon Ossoff, whose parents still pay his rent.” He called on Twitter to ban Ossoff’s tweet because it’s a “blatant lie.”

Here’s where we’ll find out whether Twitter is as tough on banning Democrats who tell blatant lies as they are on Republicans who tell blatant truths.

A Victory Worth Celebrating

By Mike Huckabee

For those who despair of the people ever being able to defeat the political, media and corporate elites who think they should be in charge of us all, here’s a victory worth celebrating: last week, the British Parliament voted 521-73 to ratify a trade deal that finally fulfills the Brexit vote for Great Britain to exit the European Union.

Elites loved the whole idea of the EU, with its erasure of national boundaries and identities and its central planning from self-styled experts in Brussels. But working class Britons got fed up with having their national sovereignty trampled, their culture erased and having to comply with often senseless edicts from a pack of far-away, out-of-touch, unelected bureaucrats.

The elites were shocked they lost what they thought would be a slamdunk referendum on leaving the EU, and they took it just about as rationally as American Democrats took Hillary’s loss of her supposed slamdunk election to Trump in 2016. Brexit supporters were slandered, mocked, belittled and vilified as backward, uneducated, racist morons, and the media were filled with “end of the world” predictions about the disasters that would befall Britain if it told the pompous twerps in Brussels to take a hike. This link at National Review recounts some of the hysterical, “sky is falling” predictions. Why, the United Kingdom would collapse without the EU, as if it hadn’t already existed and thrived for many centuries before the EU was even dreamed up.

In the end, the EU’s control over Britain went out not with a bang, but with a whimper. Trade deals are still in place, no war will break out, life will go on. But the elites learned that the people can be insulted and pushed only so far before they rise up and say, “No more!” That is a very timely lesson for our own politicians, and a needed reminder to Americans who despair that their votes no longer count, the elites are too rich and powerful, and nothing can be done to stop them. Remember, their power and money has been granted to them by you, and when you decide you’ve been pushed too far, you can say, “No more!” too.

Special memo to people in New York, California, and other places suffering greatly under leftist misleadership: the most effective way to say, “No more,” is to stop reelecting the people who are doing it to you.

Do mayors and governors have conferences and shouldn't they be able to agree that if a food place is following all the rules an no virus is spread that the place should NOT be severely punished

Good as always, copying/sharing your Brexit post (as well as entire link) everything you said correct (why I love Britain) and yes if ever a call to rise up, is now. TY for keeping it readably brief and short. God bless you.

Thanks for another informative, entertaining newsletter, Governor. I may have misunderstood your comments about the list of terms deprecated by dictionary.com . I try to be careful about the meaning of the words I use, so that I avoid misunderstandings. I do not see anything censorious about this list of words and the explanations. Rather I see an increasingly common casual misuse of words in American English. Much like "lady" has a very specific meaning in the UK which American's casually ignore, the words listed by dictionary.com are commonly misused. It would be good to return their use to the more proper meanings. We might actually find more clear communication instead of popular, emotional attempts at communication.

And thank you very much for "A Victory Worth Celebrating" about BREXIT. As you point out, this situation has some parallels with recent elections in the US. I'm praying that God's truth will become painfully evident in this situation, leading to righteous election results and long jail terms for those responsible for deceiving the American people.

    Shalom,
    Steve Florkey

So "hysterical" needs to be banned. You cited, "Plus, have you ever heard a man being called hysterical?…We’re guessing not.”

And then later on, you wrote: "This link at National Review recounts some of the hysterical, 'sky is falling' predictions.

The fact that you wrote the banned word "hysterical" amused me a great deal. In fact, I found this act of defiance absolutely hysterical!

Always enjoy reading your insightful newsletters, Governor. Re "A Victory Worth Celebrating," perhaps the "slandered, mocked, belittled and vilified as backward, uneducated, racist morons" in Britain should come to America and join us "deplorables" and enjoy true liberty with a limited government while the "elites" (so called) in America and Britain unite in the British Isles, rejoin the EU and surrender their freedoms to totalitarian rule. What d'ya think?

LOL. As to the editors of word usage. Have I ever heard a man called "hysterical"? Yes, Quite a number of times. And not solely when I was the person applying said word to man/male human being. Have these folks lived their brief lives in a sound proof, windowless box?
As to "cultural appropriation", I'm not against it. Just because someone's culture and or language doesn't have a word for an idea, event, thing etc. etc., I don't believe said person, having stumbled over such a word in someone else's language or culture, should be denied the ability and right to add to their culture, vocabulary, knowledge of nature etc. It's actually flattering for the culture as the use admits the appropriating culture and or language was incomplete and in need of at least an addition. If the original possessors want to correct usage, it's a free world with free speech, well some places anyway, and they are at liberty to do so.
As to Hawaiian shirts on nonHawaiians: the popularity appears to have spread after WWII. Men from the rest of the US alit in Hawaii where guys could were colors, Loud colors, Madly Active Prints, instead of dull, monochromes accessorized with ties Or dull monochrome uniforms. They liked it. Even as late as the 90s, such prints in mens departments blew off the shelves in staid places in the Midwest east at least as far as Ohio which puzzled the Fashion Knowledgeables in fashion centers on the coasts. It's not an insult, the "appropriation" doesn't bar the originators from wearing their own creations and if they want to make bucks the appropriatees are willing to pay handsomely for the privilege of appropriating the fine shirts.

When you leave where you came from to go to the US, few things are truely portable. Seeds are confiscated at the boarder to control bugs/other vermin & plant diseases (we hope). What do you have? Artistic sensibilities and training, Mom or Dad's recipees. What do you do with the recipees? Adapt them to local things available & open a cool new restaurant, at least before wuhan virus nonsence. More & more I find myself thinking like the guy who after getting out of the hospital was quoted as saying "Can't we all just get along" or something to that effect.

My fear is that the die has indeed been cast. Even though most of us know that the presidential election has been stolen, no one seems to be able to reveal the culprit. How can this be?
Doing so might just be our last gasp effort at honest election results in the future. Not doing so will simply energize the culprits.

What does leadership in DC NY California Chicago and many other states and cities around and thru our country look like What does one feel when one enters the Holocaust Smithsonian, What does one feel when one watches a documentary of slavery from all parts of the world? What does one feel when one watches East Coast elites slaughter herds of Buffalo leaving the Native Americans resources almost extinct? I had a tear run my cheek when I Viewed those events and as I look forward to this country moving forward with a careless Administration that is ready to dismantle the Constitution I see the same traits of these people that can murder mass numbers of humans beings with out a trace of conscience People we have to stop people like Cuomo Newsom and it seems every city has one Pelosi and Harris have put Eve on the desired list as the forbidden apple has run its course in the making of Pelosi and Harris. A Victory Worth Celebrating! I, unfortunately, live in California and am a conservative. It's very strange that I don't know anyone that votes for liberal candidates but they almost always win. I held my breath after voting for Issa and he won our district by a very small margin. It just seems to me that many of our state representatives, a large majority of which are Democrats, have gained their power through fraud. It has been this way for a very long time. Those at the top of our state hierarchy belong to the Pelosi/Brown/Getty/Newsom clans and seem to have a strangle hold on the power of this once-golden state. I'd leave if I could. So many Californians have fled to states such as Idaho, Texas and Tennessee that they are beginning to turn those states into the same liberal cesspools as the state they left. *sigh*

A comment on your comment: "Special memo to people in New York, California, and other places suffering greatly under leftist misleadership: the most effective way to say, “No more,” is to stop reelecting the people who are doing it to you." In does irritated me some when people say that it is all about the elections, stop voting for them. There are a lot of times when NO one runs against the demorats. I don't vote for those that are showing their (nazi) attitude of dictatorship but we still have to deal with them or move out which in current times is more difficult for a lot of people. Companies are leaving because they can afford to, not the individuals so much. As a senior on retirement I'm stuck but I do vote responsibility as do A Lot of people here in California. We aren't even sure that the voting here isn't also done by stealing. People are always dishing out that sage advice like it makes a different how we vote here, it hasn't so far.

    Mike,
As usual, you "hit the ball out of the park" on the words to be banished from existence. I'm going to make a list to make sure that I use them regularly to keep them from becoming extinct.

If people in the "far-corners" of our population were to devote their time and effort to make a difference in real problems, our world could be a nicer place.

Dear Governor Huckabee-The republicans are all saying "we have to elect Perdue and Loeffler in order to stop the biden agenda", really?? Sick and tired of republican promises for which they never deliver. The only way to stop biden is not allow him to be inaugurated on January 20th. If republicans would fight for what they say they believe Trump would be sworn in again. There certainly is enough evidence of a stolen election. But as usual, republicans just go along to get along. Cowards all!! Thank you that you have not been a judas to donald Trump. God bless you.

Mr. Huckabee, Thank you for your newsletter. It seems that there are few sites anymore I can trust. I trust yours.

A question: You exhort people to stop voting for those who continually oppress them. But what if those votes are “hijacked” or “stolen?” That appears to be the current concern. How can we know our votes will count, if they’re erased or modified to fit a political agenda of the one we vote against?

Thank you for your time. Be blessed.

The senate race in Georgia is in jeopardy. First, senate Republicans have shown, over and over, that they are spineless and do not stand with the people. For example, my senator Lindsey Graham talks, talks, talks. He does absolutely nothing!!! Also, the Governor and Sec Of State of Georgia are completely compromised and the election fraud continues. Perdue and Loeffler have no chance agains the democrat corruption. And our Supreme Court and judiciary sleep and could not give a darn. Never though I would see the end of the USA in my lifetime.
