Florida shooting
Prayers today for the nine victims, including three children and a 17-year-old, of a shooting near a beach boardwalk in Hollywood, Florida, on Memorial Day. Thanks to the swift reactions of police, emergency workers and Good Samaritans, all nine are alive and in stable condition. The shooting reportedly broke out after an altercation between two groups. As usual, the details weren't even certain yet before some Democrats rushed to blame the lack of gun laws. In this case, it was California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is nursing a big grudge against Florida for taking in so many of his state’s tax refugees. He quickly blamed the shooting on a permitless carry law signed by Gov. DeSantis which he not only described incorrectly but (oops) it doesn’t even take effect until July.
Since Newsom is so good at pinpointing the causes of violent crimes, maybe he could tell us why there are so many of them in places like Los Angeles, San Francisco and Oakland?
Think twice before you do this
How would you like to go to a hospital whose staff was trained at the Tower of Babel? Think they might be so confused trying to figure out what each other was saying in their own made-up languages that possibly your medical care would suffer? Well, then, you might want to think twice before checking into Johns Hopkins Medicine in Maryland.
Their director of LGBTQ+ Equity and Education (a very important position for a hospital to have) announced that both patients and staffers may now choose from up to 50 different sets of pronouns, including such Scrabble-inspired gibberish as the title "Mx." for "nonbinary or gender diverse people," ve, xe, per, ae, "aerself" and "faerself," as in "Ae cleaned the office all by aerself," or "I gave faer the key."
Or “Ve went into shock and died before the doctors were able to figure out what aerself was trying to tell them about per drug allergies.”

Wokeness is Job#1
And speaking of people who’ve decided that wokeness is job #1 instead of their actual job, employees at the Government Accountability Office (GAO) received a 3,000+ word memo from the “chief diversity management officer” (another vital government job) ordering them to avoid “gendered language,” or “wording that diminishes anyone’s dignity.”
As Bob Hoge at Redstate.com reports, this not only includes the usual language torture over preferred pronouns, but also such one-time George Carlin punchlines as not using words like “manpower.” They’re also ordered not to call illegal aliens “illegal aliens” or use the offensive term “differently-abled,” which is what liberals told us was the sensitive term we were supposed to use not that long ago.
As a reminder, the GAO is supposed to monitor the government to make sure it isn’t wasting taxpayers’ money. Hey, I think I spot a big waste of taxpayers’ money that they could eliminate right now!
“Get Woke, Go Broke” News Round-up
In an attempt to try to repair the massive damage from their association with “trans influencer” Dylan Mulvaney, Bud Light is planning a macho-boosting partnership with Harley Davidson that I assume they hope will sell beer to more bikers than the one in the Village People.
This is getting so desperate that our pop culture guru Pat Reeder believes he can predict their next move. He thinks it will be inspired by a joke the Kingston Trio used to tell, about a folk singer who was so manly, “his cologne came in hairy bottles.” Look for hairy bottles of Bud Light coming by the Fourth of July!
Related: Speaking of Dylan Mulvaney, if you thought that being a grown man who pretends to be a pubescent girl was messed up enough, then brace yourself for this weirdness. He's also a man who claims he's a woman but who's attracted to women, and who wants to get pregnant, except not by a man but by a woman. Bear in mind, major corporations want to be associated with this person, Hollywood celebrities shower him with adulation, and some people think he should be a big influence on our children.

This might explain why Target decided it was a swell idea to promote gay/trans clothing for babies and small children right in the front of their stores, leading to a $9 billion loss in stock value. Breitbart News reports that their vice president for brand marketing, in charge of leading “Target brand stewardship & campaign development for initiatives including Holiday, Back-to-School/College, Target Run, Discovery, Inclusive Marketing, and Digital & Social Engagement,” is also a board member of a teachers’ advocacy group that promotes transgenderism and gay issues to grades K-12.

Speaking of “woke,” Target foolishly poked the bear and woke it out of hibernation. They took it for granted that most Americans are pretty live-and-let-live, and didn’t mind it so much if Target carried gay-themed clothes for adults or quietly funded Gay Pride events. Many even kept shopping there after they began letting men into women’s restrooms and fitting rooms. But when they started pushing transgenderism for kids in customers’ faces, that crossed a big, red line. There’s an old rule: “Keep your hands off the kids!” and they violated it. Now, the bear is awake, and having taken down Bud Light and Target, it’s realized its strength and is looking for new game that dares to cross it.
That might have executives doing some serious rethinking about their cozying up to a tiny radical minority at the expense of the majority of their customers, over at Kohl’s…
...And even Walmart, which Forbes reports has very similar policies to Target, only “conservatives just haven’t noticed yet.”
Except they have…
Finally, with streaming revenues now in for movies released in 2022, Deadline.com reports that the biggest movie flop of 2022 was Disney’s woke animated movie “Strange World,” which is estimated to have lost over $197 million. Disney also scored third place on the loser list with “Lightyear,” in which they pushed their not-so-secret-gay-agenda on kids by including a lesbian kiss, and somehow managed to lose $106 million on a “Toy Story” movie.

Important Note
While I am sympathetic to conservatives who are sick of having radical woke propaganda shoved down their throats by businesses, I urge everyone to remember to make all protests peaceful. Do not play into the hands of the Biden Administration and its media lapdogs with their nonsensical “MAGA domestic terrorist threat” narrative.
I admit I was concerned about this when I heard over the weekend that a Target in Salt Lake City received a bomb threat. But then it was reported that this allegedly came from some unhinged person who was furious that they capitulated to "the right wing" and removed or relocated some of the LGBTQ/trans merchandise. Suddenly, the world made sense again.
I hope this will teach corporations a hard lesson: kowtowing to a tiny radical fringe is a loser’s game. Not only will you drive away your customer base, but no matter how much you do for them, the radicals will never be grateful or think it’s enough. And Heaven help you if you decide that staying in business might be more important than pushing their agenda. They know you can be rolled, so they’ll always demand more. Like the New York Times critic who’s upset that the new “Little Mermaid” movie lacks “kink.”
But the Chutzpah Prize has to go to this story. For all the money LGBTQ activists have cost Disney, they’re now attacking the remake of “The Little Mermaid” because…you might want to sit down for this…they didn’t hire a “queer” makeup artist to do the “Ursula the Sea Witch” makeup for Melissa McCarthy.

The makeup artist responded to that criticism, calling it “offensive” and “ridiculous.” Incidentally, isn’t it also against the law to ask people about their sex lives in a job interview? I thought Hollywood stopped doing that after Harvey Weinstein went to prison.
Ironic
There are few things more ironic than watching ethics-deficient Senate Democrats rail about the alleged ethical shortcomings of Justice Clarence Thomas. If it weren’t so maddening, it would be hilarious.
Fortunately, maybe this will finally pound the last nail into the coffin of those false accusations.
A friend of Thomas’, Mark Paoletta, has produced documents showing that the old, much-ballyhooed complaints about him vacationing with a wealthy friend, Harlan Crow, were already investigated in 2012 by the Judicial Conference, “the authoritative body for Judiciary under the law.” They found that under the Hospitality Exemption, Thomas was correct not to disclose those trips and that “nothing has been presented to support a determination that Justice Thomas . . willfully or improperly failed to disclose information concerning travel reimbursements."
Okay, now that that’s settled, since Democrats are so obsessed with ethics, how about the FBI turning over that document about foreign money going to the Biden family? And while we’re at it, how about looking into how so many of the Congressional Democrats who’ve been attacking Justice Thomas’ ethics got so wealthy during a lifetime of “public service” that pays less than $200,000 a year?
Corrections Corner!
One thing about this newsletter that distinguishes it from many opinion outlets and a lot of so-called “news” outlet is that we try hard to get quotes and facts right, and when we discover something wasn’t accurate, we immediately correct it (that’s why news is called “the first draft of history.”) So I want you to know that a recent claim that two dozen homeless veterans were kicked out of three upstate New York hotels to make room for illegal migrants turned out to be false.
We saw no reason to doubt it since the story was widely reported in major news outlets like the New York Post and the Washington Times. It wasn’t simply careless reporting. It was allegedly a hoax created by the head of a nonprofit called the Yerik Israel Toney Foundation and it even involved falsifying hotel receipts and paying homeless people to pretend to be displaced veterans. The state attorney general is investigating.
To be clear: this doesn’t mean that hotels in New York aren’t being used to house many illegal migrants while many veterans remain homeless; just that no veterans were removed from these particular hotels to make room for them.
Personally, I’m very glad to learn this story wasn’t true and relieved to correct it. I just wish the liberal media would get as exercised over the injustice of housing all those illegal aliens at taxpayer expense while real veterans remain homeless as they were about rushing to debunk this story.
By the way: the Durham Report was released over two weeks ago, and “news” outlets like MSNBC are still reporting the Trump-Russia collusion hoax as fact. I’m eagerly awaiting the mother-of-all-corrections, guys.
Also, another correction I’m tickled to run:
Comedian John Cleese corrected media reports that in deference to “modern sensibilities,” he was cutting the hilarious and incredibly prescient scene about a man who demands to be called Loretta and have babies from a live production of the Monty Python movie “Life of Brian.” Cleese clarified that he was just repeating what the other actors advised him to do, but nobody’s complained about that scene in 40 years and he has no intention of cutting it just because someone’s afraid it might offend somebody.
See, modern comedians? That’s how the job is done.
More proof
More proof that Democrats now just reflexively and unthinkingly attach the word “MAGA” to anything they want their followers to hate: Sen. Chuck Schumer slammed the “MAGA Supreme Court” for reining in the power of the EPA to regulate wetlands. It was a unanimous decision.

Out of time: FBI Director Wray must turn over document allegedly implicating Joe Biden
Today is the deadline for FBI Director Christopher Wray to turn over to Congress a document that a whistleblower says incriminates President Biden in a $5 million bribery scheme involving payments in exchange for policy decisions. Though this document is unclassified, the DOJ has been fighting tooth-and-nail to keep it hidden, saying that since it contains the notes from an interview with a confidential human source (CHS), letting it out of their hands might compromise “sources and methods,” which is their go-to excuse when they need to hide something.
Their statement includes this: “The FBI’s mission is to protect the American people. Releasing confidential source information could potentially jeopardize investigations and put lives at risk.” For comic relief, this is followed by the obligatory line of boilerplate: “The FBI remains committed to cooperating with Congress’ oversight requests.” See, pretty funny, right?
Hogwash. There are ways to avoid the “sources and methods” problem that fall well short of withholding the document. Identifying information about the CHS can be redacted. If necessary, the document may first be viewed only by key congressional figures in a “SCIF” (Sensitive Compartmentalized Information Facility) before it’s decided how public to make it. But the ‘Justice’ Department essentially told Congress to pound sand.
Kentucky Rep. James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, has threatened to hold Director Wray in contempt of Congress.
Wray agreed to schedule a meeting with Comer this week. But in the meantime, Democrats are condemning Republicans’ assertiveness. Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin, who has a storied history of outrageous, say-anything partisan hackery in the style of Schiff and Swalwell and did not disappoint this time, said that Comer is “making a mountain out of something that is not even a molehill.” Oh, really?? It sounds pretty serious to me. Apparently not to Raskin, though, who said, “It just sounds preposterous to me that you will hold the FBI director in contempt over a tip sheet that they think someone submitted to the FBI?”
“They think”? The existence of this document is settled. If they don’t have such a document, they should say so. (No one has said so.) And if they do have it but know there’s nothing to it, then they should just hand it over and show us all. Wouldn’t that leave us with egg on our faces? Wouldn’t Jamie Raskin LOVE to see Republicans with egg on our faces?
No, their defensive posture tells us we’re over the target. And they just sound ridiculous to any thinking person.
Raskin is not the only Democrat trying hard to minimize the story. Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly, also a member of the House Oversight Committee, accused the Republicans of waging an assault on the FBI that was “fueled by Trump’s hatred” of it.
He has this backwards. Since 2015 or thereabouts, the FBI has been waging an assault on Trump, fueled by their hatred of HIM.
Besides, we deserve a once-and-for-all answer about “Biden Inc.” and Joe Biden’s role in the family business since he became Vice President. That means the truth, not spun by either party. This is no molehill; it’s looking more like Mt. Everest. At the link, you’ll get a chuckle at Karine Jean-Pierre’s awkward refusal to address the most straightforward question about it from FOX NEWS’ Peter Doocy.
On the Memorial Day episode of HANNITY, guest Miranda Devine told substitute host Will Cain that Chris Wray is “a cover-up merchant” and that she expects the FBI to continue stonewalling. Merrick Garland “treats Republican subpoenas like a joke,” she said. Charlie Hurt concurred, saying the FBI is “thoroughly corrupt to the core.” He said you can just “plop anyone into that spot [FBI director]” and that person’s first thought will be how to protect the Bureau. The agents of integrity who are coming forward as patriots provide the means to get around this. Good interview…

It could be a busy week for AG Garland, as he’ll be working overtime ignoring other congressional deadlines as well. Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has demanded that Garland turn over all documents and communications among the DOJ, IRS and Delaware U.S. Attorney’s Office relating to the IRS whistleblower and the entire team who were removed from the Hunter Biden case. In case you didn’t see it last week, here’s the story from John Solomon.
Here’s something else the House Committee on Weaponization of the Federal Government might be interested in: a surveillance contractor called Flashpoint, which used to collect information about al-Qaeda and ISIS that they sold to the FBI, now monitors the Internet activity of “domestic American activists” protesting such things as mask and vaccine mandates. Their specialty seems to be infiltrating chat groups.
And since we’re not getting information from the U.S. Attorney’s Office or most American media, we’ll just get it from the U.K. DAILY MAIL: Texts saved on Hunter Biden’s laptop reveal that his uncle, presidential brother Jim Biden, suggests that Joe Biden was indeed in on the family’s business plans.
These frantic communications came in the aftermath of a 2018 NEW YORK TIMES story that mentioned Hunter’s ties to CCP-tied energy conglomerate CEFC. Jim, desperate to find Hunter, is apparently trying to distance him from the Chinese deal, saying, “You need a safe harbor” and “I can work with you[r] father alone.”
The NYT story is also the one that sparked the phone message from Joe to Hunter that said, “I think you’re in the clear.”
Just that one voicemail tells us President Biden has lied all along in denying any knowledge or involvement in his son’s foreign business dealings.
In related news, unless something changes, one casualty of the debt ceiling negotiations is House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s promise to defund Biden’s plan to turbocharge the IRS with $80 billion to hire 87,000 more IRS agents. He and other Republicans ran on this. But in the new debt-ceiling deal, most of that appropriation --- $78.1 billion --- remains in the budget. He has delivered roughly 2 percent of the rollback he promised.

The House is expected to vote on the bill by Wednesday, and it’s likely to pass, even though a number of conservatives have pulled their support, saying it still increases spending by $4 trillion over the next two years and does little other than letting our already way-too-big government grow a little slower. In the meantime, we did find an amazing piece of unintentional humor that might lift you a bit. It’s from THE ATLANTIC, January 13, 2017, a week before Trump’s inauguration, about Obama’s expansion of Executive Order 12333, the rules governing surveillance. It’s called “Why Is Obama Expanding Surveillance Powers Right Before He Leaves Office? It could be to prevent Trump from extending them even more.”
The article did not age well. Since it was written, we’ve learned sooooo much about how the Obama intel community abused its surveillance powers to target Trump. Yet at the time, they were saying it was Trump who didn’t respect civil liberties and Obama who would have to rein HIM in. Fast-forward to 2023, and we all know it’s turned out to be the opposite. The permanent bureaucracy, or “deep state,” in cahoots with the news media and social media, has focused on surveilling and censoring Trump and his supporters, violating the Constitution under the guise of calling us “extremists” and “domestic terrorists.”
It’s just darkly hilarious to read now. This is an interview with Susan Hennessey of the Brookings Institution, which should tell you all you need to know. (It figures that she also used to work at the National Security Agency general counsel’s office.) Here are a few choice quotes:
“I am confident that all of the agencies in the U.S. intelligence community will discharge those very same obligations with the same level of diligence and rigor, adhering to both the spirit and the letter of the law.”
“One of the things that I think individuals who had insight into intelligence activities... were concerned about [was] the election of Donald Trump…”
“...I think the bottom line is that it’s comforting to a large national-security community that these are procedures that are signed off by Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and Attorney General Loretta Lynch, and not by the DNI and attorney general that will ultimately be confirmed under the Trump Administration.”
You know, the Administration the American people actually voted for?
