The presidential candidates may be chosen already, but primaries for state and local races are still going on. Tuesday, primary elections were held in Maryland, Nebraska, West Virginia and the 13th District of North Carolina. Redstate.com has regularly-updated news and vote totals on the major races.
The biggest news came out of Maryland, where Republican Larry Hogan easily won the GOP Senate nomination, but on the Democrat side, Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks scored a stunning upset over Rep. David Trone. The latest poll had the two tied, but Alsobrooks won by about 54-42%. Trone spent over $60 million of his own money on his campaign, making it one of the most expensive Senate campaigns in history.
He said, "We're gonna spend whatever it takes to beat Larry Hogan. We have to hold the Democrat majority in the U.S. Senate, it's that simple. We cannot go back to MAGA tax policies, we cannot go back to not having a chance to rectify the Dobbs decision...We have big things to accomplish in Washington." Maybe Democrat voters just thought he couldn’t really be a Democrat if he believed in wasting his own money.
Now, it will be Alsobrooks facing Hogan, a popular former Governor and moderate who has distanced himself from Trump, but who is already being painted by the Democrats as a dangerous rightwing extremist. Because of course they are. Maybe this will give him more appreciation of how Trump feels. Here’s more from Rebecca Downs at Townhall.com.
