The Legal Insurrection blog has examined more DOJ charging documents against people allegedly involved in the January 6th violence at the Capitol, and the more we learn, the more we see that the narrative being pushed by Democrats (“violent, armed insurrectionists inspired by Trump’s speech and organized on the extremist site Parler tried to overthrow the federal government!”) is so much hooey on every level.
As we already reported, a number of Internet communications are cited in the documents, and they not only date back weeks before Trump’s speech, but only eight of them were on Parler. The vast majority were on Facebook and Facebook-owned Instagram. It’s more likely that Parler was shut down because it was becoming too popular with conservatives and might threaten the Big Tech giants’ power with its protection of free speech.
The new info here includes some of those communications involving a group called the Oath Keepers, whose charging documents include 14 mentions of Facebook and none of Parler. These are the people in military garb who are being cited by Democrats as proof of a massive pro-Trump insurrectionist army that requires the continuing presence of razor wire fences and National Guard troops to protect the government.
But according to their own communications, they purposely chose not to carry weapons because “DC is no guns.” So they’re violent insurrectionists who obey gun control laws? The charges state that the group “prepared themselves for battle before heading to the Capitol by equipping themselves with communication devices and donning reinforced vests, helmets, and goggles.” But not guns. Frankly, that doesn’t sound like they were very prepared for battle.
Ah, but if anything turned bad, they were relying on a QRF (quick reaction force) to move in and “bring the tools.” The “force” apparently referred to one person who was described as “too broken down to be on the ground all day,” so he was going to hang out at the Comfort Inn in nearby Ballston, Virginia, and await further word.
In short, the feds’ own investigation proves what we’ve been saying all along: that the violence at the Capitol was caused by a handful of delusional nutjobs who have nothing whatsoever to do with the millions of Trump supporters or the vast majority of Parler users. But if you think Democrats are going to stop targeting conservatives’ free speech just because a full federal investigation proved that their entire premise for it is false, then look at how many of them still believe the 2016 election was stolen by Russian collusion.
