A weekend of violence
Over the weekend, hundreds of young people swarmed downtown Chicago in a “teen takeover.” They smashed cars, blocked traffic, fought in the streets, and two teenage males were shot while standing in the crowd. Police tried to protect tourists, but the teenagers surrounded and climbed on cars, bashed windshields, and in one case attacked a couple in their car, sending the husband to the hospital.
Chicago’s new Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson, who may actually be further left and softer on crime than Lori Lightfoot, issued this statement:
"In no way do I condone the destructive activity we saw in the Loop and lakefront this weekend. It is unacceptable and has no place in our city. However, it is not constructive to demonize youth who have otherwise been starved of opportunities in their own communities."
Funny, I would swear from the stats that they have plenty of opportunities to shoot each other in their own communities. He continued:
"Our city must work together to create spaces for youth to gather safely and responsibly, under adult guidance and supervision, to ensure that every part of our city remains welcome for both residents and visitors."
Yes, Heaven forbid we should demonize youth just for rioting, assaulting and shooting people. Kids will be kids, after all! For the record, there used to be “adult supervision” that prevented behavior like that. It was called “policing,” but “progressives” like Johnson severely curtailed it (we wouldn’t want to stifle Little Johnny’s creativity by sending him to jail when he’s inventing innovative new ways to attack people and rob stores.)
I pray for the victims of this mindless violence, and for the people of Chicago who did NOT vote to destroy civilization. But I am compelled to mention that this story does illustrate why the Democrats chose the perfect city for their convention, to show America what the entire nation could look like if voters don’t come to their senses and throw them out of power.
I still have to believe that a majority of voters can’t be insane enough to think that this kind of violent societal breakdown is worth tolerating just to protect the right of schools to take kids away from their parents and hack off their genitals, the right of men to invade women’s private sanctums, or the right to abort children up to the moment of their first birthday party. But don’t get complacent. A LOT of people – or at least some people with a LOT of money – really want to see this cancer spread nationwide.

Project 2025
This may be a little too “inside baseball” for some readers, but I’m sure many of you will find it thought-provoking, and I strongly encourage any Republican thinking of running for national office to read it.
It explains the Heritage Foundation’s “Project 2025,” a proposed blueprint for a conservative President on how to dismantle the Deep State and return power to the citizens, where it belongs. It’s a daunting task, but a necessary one if we want to preserve the Constitution and America itself.
It also gives some good background on how we went from being a government “of the people, by the people and for the people” to a sprawling bureaucracy of elites, running their fiefdoms with no oversight, making up regulations with the force of laws but no input from elected representatives, and receiving automatic raises, promotions and pensions with little fear of being fired, no matter how incompetent or unconstitutional their actions. You won’t be surprised to learn that all that started in the name of “progressivism.”
Here's a new twist on the “men taking over women’s sports” narrative
At the Kenya Open Chess Championship, a man named Stanley Omondi dressed in a head-to-toe hijab and entered the women’s chess tournament, claiming to be a woman.

Participants were suspicious because he had masculine shoes (but you can’t judge a woman for wearing comfortable shoes!), and he never talked (what a sexist idea, thinking women talk all the time!) But they got really suspicious when an unknown player beat the former national women’s chess champion and a top female player from Uganda. So they’re saying that when he beat two women, they figured he must be a man? Wow, so many triggers!
When finally confronted, Omondi confessed, said he’d done it because he had “financial needs,” and that he was “ready to accept all consequences.” Better yet, he should just pack up his hijab; fly to America, where there are no consequences for cheating like this; and enter any women’s chess tournament he wants.
Infuriating story
There has been a tsunami of stories about “trans” activists trampling on women’s rights recently, some of them disturbing and some just ridiculous. But this may be the most infuriating.
Seven female college students at the University of Wyoming are suing the national leadership of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority for forcing them to accept a man who allegedly “identifies” as a woman into their sorority house. This is a textbook example of how this idiotic defiance of biological reality is being exploited by bad actors.
The plaintiffs say they lived in terror because this alleged “trans woman” is a 6-foot-2, 260-pound man who claims to have a “female gender identity.” But he has undergone no treatments to even look more feminine, he’s “sexually interested in women,” has a Tinder account to meet women, and scares the sorority members by staring at them while visibly aroused as they come and go from the showers.
Wait, it actually gets worse. The judge has ordered that the anonymous plaintiffs' identities must be revealed (having made “accusations of impropriety against Defendants…they must now shoulder the burden of those accusations and walk in the public eye.”) He ruled that they “present little to demonstrate that they, themselves are in real, imminent, personal danger.”
This judge is 84, and apparently doesn’t understand that daring even to complain about being violated in this way today makes you the target of violent, unhinged nutjobs who claim to be “trans activists.” I wonder if maybe he would understand the concern if some huge, hulking creep demanded to move into his granddaughters’ house and stare at them when they come out of the shower.
I’d like to see a ruling on how anyone can live for 84 years and still be that dumb. In the meantime, I would advise anyone with college-age daughters to tell them to avoid Kappa Kappa Gamma like it was "I Koppa Feel."

The FLWR Shop, a Nashville area florist shop, is getting praise from Democrats and the media (pardon my redundancy) for refusing a job providing flowers for an RNC fundraiser because Republicans don’t support more gun control laws. Quin Hilyer at the Washington Examiner understandably wants to know why the liberal media isn’t condemning them for refusing service to certain customers based on their personal beliefs, and when will Democrats will start suing and prosecuting them, the way they’ve targeted Christian florists, bakers and other business owners for declining jobs catering same-sex weddings?
At least the Christian business owners have the justification that it’s a violation of their First Amendment rights to be compelled to violate their religious beliefs. The Nashville florist just refuses to do business with certain customers for purely political reasons. Hilyer quotes a fatuous New York Times editorial attacking the endlessly-persecuted Christian cake artist Jack Phillips: “Put simply, you can’t offer business services to the general public and then pick and choose your customers because of who they are.”
Of course, the counter argument is that Republicans aren’t a “protected class.” Boy, you can sure say that again!
Yuengling beer for the win
I mentioned over the weekend that Bud Light’s sales were tanking because of their embrace of a "trans” social media influencer, and that some liberal commentators were, naturally, accusing Bud Light drinkers of being bigots and transphobes just because they don't want to give their money to a company that was insulting them to their faces and spitting on their values. You see, a “boycott” of a company for embracing wokeness is bad. But as I mentioned, they had no problem with Philadelphia gay bars boycotting Yuengling beer in 2016, just because the CEO supported Trump.
Well, Bud Light’s dilemma is not escaping Yuengling’s notice. While Bud Light is getting ripped apart on Twitter, look at the corporate image Yuengling is projecting. Think they might pick up quite a few former Bud drinkers?
Meanwhile, Bud Light is also suddenly running “pro-America” ads, but a lot of critics see it as a desperate attempt to put the genie back in the bottle. Once you've seen Dylan Mulvaney’s face on a Bud Light can, that’s an image you can’t get out of your head no matter how many beers you drink.
Things That Make You Go “Hmmmm…”
Independent journalist Alex Berenson is suing President Biden, a member of Pfizer’s board and other government officials for violating his free speech rights by pressuring Twitter to ban him for sharing data casting doubt on the safety and efficacy of the COVID vaccines. His case was strengthened by the fact that Twitter settled a previous lawsuit and admitted that he should not have been banned.
Now, his case has taken a surprise twist, as the Trump-appointed judge assigned to hear it has been replaced by an Obama-appointed judge, and a lot of people are wondering just why that is…
The Civil Rights Struggle in 2023
An obese “social media influencer” is calling on the FAA to make airlines give obese passengers as many seats as they need for free to accommodate their wide rear ends. This gives new meaning to the term, "wide body jet."
As an almost constant flyer, let me say that the response to this isn’t as obvious as it might appear. First, people need to realize that “body positivity” doesn’t mean encouraging people to be unhealthy and shorten their lives. This became both dangerous and ridiculous during the pandemic when some doctors were afraid of being “canceled” if they told patients the truth, that obesity was one of the top factors in COVID deaths.
And while it’s also ridiculous to expect airlines to give away space they could sell to other passengers just because some are so wide they take up three seats, there’s also the issue that airlines have been making seats smaller and smaller to cram more people in. It’s gotten to the point that even a medium-sized person can barely fit into one, and a slender person with long legs will have just as much discomfort as an obese person.
I think it’s reasonable that if you are so large you take up two seats that you should have to pay for two seats. But the airlines should also provide seats that are big enough to accommodate most people, so that everybody doesn’t require at least two seats to be comfortable.
And can we all agree that if we have to be crammed in like sardines, people should stop reclining their seats so that they’re crushing the laps of the people behind them?
PETA Amuses
Whenever I hear something from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), it usually strikes me as being more about publicity/fundraising than actually helping animals. But give them points for being amusing at least.
Like their latest protest of New York City for hiring a “rat czar” to reduce the city’s overwhelming rat population. PETA’s communications director, Ashley Byrne (described as a “13-year-Brooklyn resident,” but she sounds more like a 13-year-OLD Brooklyn resident) said that nobody wants to see the city filled with rats, but “the rats you see on the streets are still sensitive, intelligent animals, and they deserve better than to be killed in gruesome, painful ways.”
She said the rats are “here through no fault of their own,” and shouldn’t be called “pests” (does it hurt their feelings?), and that as long as there’s unchecked garbage everywhere, there will be rats. She told the New York Post, “We have a disgusting human behavior problem, not a rat problem.”
Now, there’s something I agree with! Although I’d say it’s more than a rat problem or a disgusting human behavior problem. The garbage everywhere is a Democrat governance problem. If they’d just vote the rats out of city hall, maybe they wouldn’t have so many rats in the streets, of either the rodent or human variety.
Proof Democrat machine is behind prosecution of Trump
Under the chairmanship of Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, the House Judiciary Committee has traveled to New York City to hold its first hearing today relating to the double standard of ‘justice’ in Manhattan, where District Attorney Alvin Bragg is normally the one holding court.
Bragg, as you know, found a highly questionable way to up-charge President Trump with felonies for recording reimbursement payments to his then-attorney Michael Cohen as “legal expenses.” These payments would have been misdemeanors for which the statute of limitations ran out long ago, so in order to prosecute them anyway, Bragg is saying they also violated federal election law. (Never mind that the Federal Election Commission decided to pass on this.) And while Bragg was busy going after Trump --- fulfilling the campaign promise he ran on --- real crime in Manhattan was spiraling out of control. Bragg had made it clear he simply wasn’t going to prosecute much of that crime.
Democrats are predictably having a fit about Jordan’s hearing, but, as Trey Gowdy said Sunday night on FOX NEWS, “If you’re really doing a good job, and you’re confident in your record, what’s to fear from a little field hearing?”
Gowdy spoke with Florida Rep. Laurel Lee, a former Florida judge and highly-credentialed member of the committee. She pointed out that among the crimes Bragg doesn’t prosecute are resisting arrest, robbery, and trespass, which, along with his reckless bail policies, “absolutely affect the overall safety of a community.” This will be put out there for the American people to see.
Gowdy had a great question for her: “What is the best piece of evidence that what DA Bragg is doing is rooted in politics?” She replied that this prosecutor “is taking half of the felony charges that come into his office and downgrading them to misdemeanors. But in the case of Donald Trump, he’s doing exactly the opposite. He’s digging up an allegation from 2017 that at best would be a misdemeanor and contorting it into a felony charge.” It’s also a case that has already been passed over by federal authorities, “who would clearly have a nexus for any type of investigation...”

By coincidence, Mark Levin on Sunday night also spoke about the attempt by House Republicans to investigate this double standard and the resistance they’re meeting every step of the way. Seems to me that in trying to resist the investigation of that double standard, they’re actually proving how much of one we have.
The House Republicans need to protect the separation of powers and their authority under the Constitution, he said. The legal phrase for this is ‘self-preservation.’ If Congress can’t enforce its power, then it has NO power. So it has to act. It has to use its “implied or inherent” power to hold individuals and entities in contempt. Also, the FBI and the U.S. attorney general do not have the power to just ignore Congress, though from their behavior you’d think they did.
“There are extraordinarily dangerous times,” Levin said. It’s not enough to form committees and ask for witnesses. They have the power to wield the contempt charge; the House votes this up or down, and stragglers within the GOP are not acceptable, given the stakes. But if the attorney general’s office blows off Congress’s action instead of enforcing it, as happened with AG Eric Holder during the Fast & Furious scandal involving guns, drug cartels and the FBI--- what then?
According to Levin, Congress has the power to send the sergeant-at-arms to secure the subpoenaed individual --- to arrest and jail that person --- without the Executive Branch playing any role. As part of due process, the person gets an open hearing in front of, say, the Judiciary Committee, where the committee can decide to release him --- or not. It might be an unpleasant process, but it could come to that. The Republicans will be attacked by the media, he said, but the media are corrupt and can’t be allowed to call the shots. Likewise with “phony tenured professors...so ignore them, too.”
Levin said to take heart from the reform of the judiciary that’s going on in Israel right now, under Netanyahu and his majority government. Here, under Biden, we have a similar situation; Biden is “undermining representative government and unleashing criminal law enforcement against people with whom they disagree.”

But while we’re waiting for Congress to do whatever is necessary to conduct their oversight, Margot Cleveland has pieced together plenty that tells us Bragg’s prosecution of Trump is as political as it gets. It’s all in a new column called “Manhattan DA Enlisted a Who’s Who of Biden Admin Buddies for Trump Takedown.” And it just gets worse the farther into it you read.
Recall that attorney Mark F. Pomerantz is the one who not only very publicly resigned over the DA’s initial decision not to indict Trump on those charges but also wrote a venomous book on the subject. His actions appear to have been instrumental in getting Bragg to change his mind and throw the ‘book’ at Trump. But as Cleveland points out, Pomerantz wasn’t just an office regular. He was one of three attorneys lent out to the DA’s office by the law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, a New York City firm that has strong ties to Democrats and the Biden administration and is a high-dollar fundraiser for both. These three were sent over in February 2021, when Trump adversary Cyrus Vance was Manhattan DA, specifically to work on the Trump case.
According to the NEW YORK TIMES, Pomerantz had already been informally working on the Trump case for months before taking a leave of absence to serve as special assistant district attorney in the Manhattan office. The TIMES admitted that “the hiring of an outsider is a highly unusual move for a prosecutor’s office” but noted the “unusual complexity” of “the two-and-a-half-year investigation of the former President and his family business.” The same law firm also lent two other attorneys, Elyssa Abuhoff and Caroline Williamson, to be special assistant DAs.
Let’s look at the law firm that sent over three attorneys to work exclusively on prosecuting President Trump. First, the Biden fundraising: During Biden’s 2020 run, they hosted a $2,800-a-plate fundraiser for about 100 guests. Ironically, Biden spoke at that fundraiser about the unfairness of the “wealth gap.”

Brad Karp, chairman of Paul, Weiss, topped the list of Biden fundraisers in 2020, bundling at least $100,000 for his campaign. The Biden campaign was heavily funded by Big Law.

And this might be the kicker: Karp’s partner at Paul, Weiss happens to be Robert Schumer, brother of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. These are the people supplying attorneys to Bragg for Trump’s prosecution.
Biden has other connections to the firm as well. Jeh Johnson, head of Homeland Security under Obama-Biden, is from there. Biden’s own top antitrust enforcement official at the DOJ, Jonathan Kanter, is a former partner of Paul, Weiss. BLOOMBERG reported that Paul, Weiss had emerged as a “Biden-era New York power center.”
When Pomerantz left the DA’s office, he went back to Paul, Weiss. That’s when he wrote his book about the Trump investigation.
Cleveland notes that in Pomerantz’ resignation letter, he failed to mention that “at least three career prosecutors asked to be moved off the investigation,” reportedly “concerned that the investigation was moving too quickly, without clear evidence to support possible charges.” Funny, we didn’t hear much media coverage about THAT.
With the help of the two remaining Paul, Weiss attorneys, the DA’s office continued its investigation and prosecution of the Trump Corporation, and yet another outside lawyer was brought in. This one, Gary T. Fishman, was supplied by New York State Attorney General Letitia James, another Trump adversary who had campaigned on using the legal system to “get” him and who boasts of having sued him over 100 times.
When the Trump Corporation case was over, Abuhoff and Williamson went back to Paul, Weiss but returned to Bragg’s office in just a couple of months, this time as full staff members. Paul, Weiss did not respond to questions about whether they paid these attorneys while they were on loan to the DA’s office. Or were they compensated by the generous New York taxpayers? Federal funds, perhaps? Inquiring minds want to know, and this is something the Judiciary Committee is surely looking into.
Of course, we already knew that last December, Bragg hired the third-in-command at the DOJ, Matthew Colangelo, to be in charge of his office’s revived investigation of Trump. Biden had appointed him to serve in the ‘Justice’ Department directly under Lisa Monaco, so one can imagine how much trust Biden puts in him. Both Colangelo and Fishman had worked in Letitia James’ office, where they (what else?) investigated Trump. These people have built careers on investigating Trump.
This all stinks so bad we can smell it from many states away. Cleveland calls it horrifying, saying, in variation of the famous quote attributed to Stalin: “Lend me your top attorneys and I’ll show you a crime.” Trump is indeed a victim of the New York Democrat political machine.

Here’s a report tying the longtime sexual harassment lawsuit against Trump with the Democrat mega-donor Reid Hoffman. Turns out, he’s bankrolling it. And he can afford to; he’s the billionaire who started LinkedIn. The source of the money was kept secret until a few days ago, with the woman pressing charges apparently lying under oath to deny receiving outside funding.
As Bonchie at REDSTATE says, “Hoffman doesn’t get involved in anything that isn’t highly political, and this likely is no different.”
The WASHINGTON EXAMINER has an excellent piece about how the weaponization of our ‘justice’ system to go after Trump makes us look on the world stage. Let’s just say we’re no longer that shining city on a hill.

A new book is coming out called THE FALL OF THE FBI, by longtime FBI agent Thomas Baker, and it promises to be an engaging read about true-life crimefighting but also a scathing take-down. Baker says the culture of the FBI has been in “sad decline” ever since 9/11, when its mission turned from nonpolitical law enforcement to spying on Americans. And it’s an especially unflattering portrait of James Comey, whose mission was to “get Trump.” We haven’t read the book yet, but this review by Glenn K. Beaton is GREAT.

Glenn Greenwald dissects the media
Actual journalist Glenn Greenwald published a Twitter thread dissecting the way the media is handling the story of the leaker of classified documents, and I mean the word “dissect” in the sense that a biology student dissects a piglet. By the time he’s finished showing how they do what the government tells them, and report on leaks that push narratives they like while ignoring those they don’t, all that’s left is a little gristle and a big pile of hypocrisy
