North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson is the Republican candidate for Governor, and he’s been hit with some sleazy allegations by CNN that he denied and called “tabloid trash.” I don’t want to recount the allegations here. They involve claims that Robinson left shocking anonymous comments on a porn website anywhere from 12 to 16 years ago. but you can read them at the link if you must.
Robinson has been a guest on my TV show a couple of times. I’ve been impressed with him, both in his public life and in person. I’m naturally very skeptical of any salacious claims made about candidates just before elections, and especially in the age of clever internet fakery and baseless accusations reported as fact. So pardon me if I follow the admonition in Matthew 7:1-3, and reserve my judgement. This isn’t my first election, or my first brush with sleazy “October Surprises,” which apparently now start in September.
Just as a thought experiment, let’s pose some hypothetical questions. Like, what if the accusations were true? How would the Democrats expect Republicans to react?
Obviously, the people who released this hitjob expect voters to vote for Robinson’s Democrat opponent, state Attorney General Josh Stein. This shows a lack of understanding of Christian conservatives. Leftists live in bubbles and tend to think that everyone is the same as they are. It’s why they believe Trump only ran for office to be a dictator, terrorists and hostile foreign leaders will be our friends if we let them alone, anyone who objects to unassimilated masses of illegal aliens taking over their communities is just racist, and Christians don’t really believe in God.
So they assume that they can get us to support the Democrat if they can just slime the Republican with an accusation of failing to live up to Christ’s teachings (that’s one of Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals”: "Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.") They don’t understand that Christians know that all humans fall short of perfection, which is why we need the grace and forgiveness of Christ. If Heaven only admitted people who’d never sinned, it would be emptier than Joe Biden’s head.
They can’t fathom that if the accusations were true, and Robinson confessed that as a young man, he said foolish things that he now regrets, just like every other human being in history, then…okay. We believe in redemption and forgiveness. Let’s move on.
I know that must make whoever leaked this trash yank his/her/xir hair out. We’re not allowed to believe someone can change and have different values than they did 16 years ago, but we’re supposed to accept that Kamala Harris now has completely different policies and beliefs than she did six weeks ago. Talk about an overnight conversion!
But let’s ask some more questions:
Aren’t Democrats the party that stuck by Ted Kennedy and Bill Clinton, whose sins went far beyond words? And weren’t they so outraged about Hunter Biden’s laptop being exposed just before an election that they lied about it being Russian disinformation? Didn’t they echo Hunter’s complaints about his lifestyle being exposed and his privacy invaded? Frankly, I could have lived without knowing any of that. The reason the laptop was legitimate news was the mountain of evidence of Biden family corruption and influence-peddling it contained.
Also, do the Democrats expect us to be outraged over someone’s alleged online sex comments from over a decade ago when their current policies include putting drag queens into children’s libraries, gay sex manuals into third grade classrooms, crossdressers into Disneyland, lesbian kisses into children’s movies, and men who claim to be women into girls’ locker rooms? That’s some awfully selective outrage.
