2. Good Friday
Before we get into the inevitable bad news of the headlines, here is the good news: Today is Good Friday, and Sunday is Easter, the most important and joyous day in Christianity. Easter is the commemoration of Jesus’ Resurrection from the tomb, whereas Good Friday is the day when He was crucified and died on the Cross to redeem the sins of mankind.
Many people are confused as to why the day marking such a terrible thing as the Crucifixion of Jesus is known as “Good Friday.” This article offers some linguistic history and a theological interpretation of that question.

Many people don’t know that the day between Good Friday and Easter is known as Holy Saturday. Different denominations observe it in different ways. It’s the end of Lent and fasting, and often a day of reflection and meditation in memory of Jesus resting from His work of providing salvation.

3. Russia-Ukraine War Update

Some of the top recent developments: Russia warned the US and NATO that there could be “unpredictable consequences” if they continue to send Ukraine “sensitive” weapons. Which is interesting because it sounds like a threat, but it also sounds a little like an inadvertent admission of weakness.
Sen. Steve Daines and Rep. Victoria Spartz, both Republicans, became the first U.S. elected officials to visit Ukraine since the war began. After touring Bucha and Kyiv, Daines said he saw heart wrenching and irrefutable evidence of war crimes, including shallow mass graves filled with civilians, women and children.
The flagship of Russia’s Black Sea navy, the Moskva, reportedly sank as it was being towed back to port. Russia claims a fire on board caused an explosion, but Ukraine says they hit the ship with two missiles. Russia claims the ship lost stability due to hull damage and sank in stormy seas. The Moskva was 611 feet long, more than two-thirds as long as the Titanic. Incidentally, this was the same ship that made news early in the invasion when it was reported that the captain ordered Ukrainian soldiers defending Snake Island to surrender, and they replied, “Go f--- yourself.” Putin should've taken that as an omen.

How far off the leftward cliff is the Democratic Party plunging, and how fast are they rushing there?
Here’s a stunning example. Rod Dreher at the American Conservative reminds us that the left’s attempts to sexualize school kids, their strenuous efforts to keep their actions hidden, and the media’s willingness to cover for their deceptions is not a recent development. It’s just that it's only recently become so obvious that parents are finally waking up to it. And yes, they deserve to be called “groomers.”

Bonus: this includes a notorious clip from Bill Maher’s show from as recently as 2019, where Maher and his liberal guests and audience mocked and laughed at Dennis Prager for saying that trans activists are trying to force everyone to claim they believe that men menstruate. It’s followed by a list of just some of the liberal politicians and media outlets now openly doing just that, plus a meme that’s making the rounds on the Internet to push that idea (warning: it’s a rather disgusting image.)
5. Democrat poll numbers reach new depths

Polls numbers for the Democrats continue to plumb new depths with each new survey.
But oddly, one demographic is actually more supportive of them than they were in 2020: Women with college degrees. NBC News found that while men and women with no degrees are both now in the (R) column, and college-educated men have swung from Dem+16 to GOP+10 (a 26-point swing to the right), women with college degrees have gone from Dem+34 to Dem+38.
It seems rather baffling. What do women with degrees like about Democrat leadership? The inflation, the open borders, the high gas prices, the skyrocketing crime, the empty store shelves, the growing possibility of World War III?
Joy Pullman at the Federalist has an interesting theory on that. She suspects it has less to do with college (although many students these days get more of a leftist indoctrination than a real education) than with marital status. Other polls have shown that single women vote disproportionately for Democrats while married women lean Republican. And with marriage rates dropping, that gives an advantage among women to Democrats.
As to why single women lean Democrat, I have been married long enough to know that we men should never theorize about what women are thinking. So I’ll just refer you to Ms. Pullman, who examines a number of theories, including that they are more susceptible to emotional arguments based on claims of harm and victimhood.
Also, women dominate college fields that are the biggest incubators of leftism, such as social work, psychology, health care and education. Other studies suggest that those who lack the security of a family tend to look to government as a provider. Both women and men who don’t have a spouse or children rate themselves as less happy, and a 2020 Pew poll found that “more than half of white women who identified as political liberals had been diagnosed by a professional with a mental disorder, such as depression or anxiety.” She also notes that society is always telling men they’re wrong and stupid, but telling women they’re awesome, so it might be harder for women than men to admit they were wrong in choosing a President.
Personally, I suspect that some of their support is based in the Democrats’ “abortion up to and beyond the moment of birth” position and the claim that they are the great defenders of women’s rights and that Republicans want to create a real-life “Handmaid’s Tale.” That nonsense got amped up to 11 when Trump was elected, never mind that he appointed more women to important jobs in the executive branch than any President in history. And anyone who thinks Republican women are weak shrinking violets who just do what they’re told has obviously never met one.
As for the delusion that the Democrats protect the rights and safety of women, they’ve become the party that refuses to admit that something called a “woman” even exists. They’ve become such biology deniers that they let men who identify as women use women’s restrooms and showers (and cover up for them if they rape women in there, as did the Loudoun County school board); take women’s sports trophies, records and scholarships; and even physically injure women on the playing field.
Democrats apparently don’t even provide women with “protection” from the “men who identify as women” that they’re now putting into women’s prisons.

If single women really think today’s Democratic Party is their friend and protector, then they need to get a dog, pronto.
6. Works of Theater
While our FBI has been letting actual threats to public safety like the alleged New York subway shooter skate away, they seem to have been filling their time with producing more works of theater than David Merrick. There was that whole phony “Russian collusion” non-scandal. And the ridiculous melodrama of pretending that parents upset at school boards are domestic terrorists.
This week, a Michigan jury acquitted two men of planning to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, apparently finding their defense plausible that the FBI actually cooked up the scheme and entrapped them into going along with it. The jury was hung on two other defendants, and the feds announced that they will retry them, having not wasted enough of the taxpayers’ money already.
Julie Kelly of American Greatness reports that that wasn’t the only phony kidnap-a-Governor plot the FBI was involved with. They also allegedly tried to entrap a disabled military veteran and suspected militia member into a fictitious plot to kill Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam. Apparently, the target didn’t play along and the plan was dropped, but that didn’t stop Northam from citing the imaginary threat to accuse President Trump of emboldening “white supremacists” and “fueling hate and bigotry.”

And now, some are starting to get a whiff of greasepaint from the January 6th trials. There are all the still-to-be-answered questions about whether there were FBI agents involved in the riot, and if so, in what capacity. (Here’s some news on that, from a defense attorney’s filing that claims at least 20 FBI and ATF assets were embedded around the Capitol that day)…

Julie Kelly also reported that the FBI has yet to release hundreds of thousands of related FBI documents that defense attorneys are supposed to have access to.
Always remember that the people who claim we can’t allow free speech on Twitter because we need them to “monitor” the Internet to identify and censor “misinformation” fell for every one of these stories hook, line and sinker.
7. Covering the news
Polls have been looking so bad for President Biden and the Democrats that friendly media outlets apparently feel the need to find ways to tilt them to make their look less deadly. Of course, lulling the Dems into a false sense of security with inaccurate polls does them no more good than handing them a lovely bouquet with a rattlesnake hidden inside.
For instance, the media are making a big to-do over a new ABC poll that claims to prove that a large majority of Americans blame Vladimir Putin for inflation, just as the White House fervently wishes they would.
But as Nick Arama at Redstate.com points out, this poll is structured to make it possible to blame anyone for high oil prices while deflecting blame away from Biden. Respondents were given a list of things to blame and allowed to choose multiple culprits. This is how somehow 71% blame Putin, while 68% blame oil companies, and 52% blame Democrat policies. It renders the whole idea of who’s to blame meaningless and just encourages people to check off all their preconceived notions.
To show how insane this poll is, it claims that 57% blame Trump and the GOP for high gas prices, more than blame Biden. Come again?! Do more than half of Americans really not remember that gas cost less than half as much when Trump was President?
Even I might tick off the Putin box, too, because I think his invasion did contribute to the most recent bump in a longterm upward trend. But that’s only because so much of the world, including the US, now depends on Russian oil because Biden declared war on US oil production. So while I do blame Putin a little, I also blame Biden for the fact that Putin had any effect at all.
8. NYC shooting update
Frank James, the alleged New York City subway shooter, was arrested and ordered held without bail. So now New Yorkers finally know how bad a crime you have to commit not to be released the next day without bail. Here’s more on that insanity, and why it’s rightfully making Democrats sweat.
