2. A Kurt Schlichter column to cheer you up:
I hope you had a safe, happy and healthy Christmas and New Year! And now, welcome back to the first Monday of 2022, with only 51 more to go!
I know that’s a depressing thought, and it’s hard to go back to work after a nice holiday break. But here’s a column to cheer you up from Kurt Schlichter at Townhall.com.
His premise is that 2021 might go down in history as the year that the left’s attempts to take over and transform America peaked, and 2022 will be the year Americans rise up and stop it. They’ve pushed too far with their disastrous economic, crime and foreign policies; with their inflation and empty store shelves and prosecuting parents for not wanting racist, anti-American garbage taught to their kids and men breaking women’s records from college swimming to “Jeopardy!”
As he warns, there are still hard battles to be fought, and they will fight dirty. We could lose if we don’t fight hard and smart, but the tides of history have started to turn against the leftist radicals. And let’s be honest, our opponents are not the brightest bulbs in the chandelier.
You’ll want to read the whole thing, but here’s an excerpt I can’t resist quoting, about the hot house leftist academics and politicians now causing all the chaos:
“We know that they did not get where they are at the heads of our institutions because they earned it. They did not build them. They were handed the keys because they went and got the garbage credentials at their universities and because they politicked up the ladder. These are unaccomplished people. We are not fighting Lex Luthor or some criminal genius; we are fighting the robbers in ‘Home Alone.’
3. China's economy is facing problems:
And in other hopeful signs for 2022, while China has been flexing its muscles economically and militarily, the Wall Street Journal reports that China’s economy is facing some serious problems. And the communist government’s crackdown on freedom and creative entrepreneurs and its imposition of more government control is likely going to make it worse, not better.

The WSJ points out that the US and its allies could make China’s economic woes even worse and rein in their expansionism through “vigorous enforcement of trade laws, limiting Chinese access to technology and financing from the West, and imposing sanctions against China’s brutal human-rights abuses.”
But until we have a President who’s actually willing to do any of that, we’ll just have to hope that the communists’ stellar record of ruining everything they touch will keep undermining China for us.
4. Omicron spreads:
As the Omicron variant quickly spread, COVID case numbers spiked over the weekend, hitting records in New York and Florida (fortunately without a similar surge in deaths.) Also, a number of fully-vaxxed and boosted political figures in DC, from Rep. Ayanna Presley to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who’s overseeing the discharge of military members who refused to get vaccinated, tested positive for COVID. Wait, I thought this was an "epidemic of the unvaccinated?"

They are responding to their own breakthrough cases by praising the vaccines and urging people to get them, on the assumption that they would be even sicker if they weren’t triple-vaxxed. Which might be true, but it’s not a very convincing argument to a public skeptical of the vaccines’ efficacy and the “experts’” pronouncements, and with good reason.
The public also isn't warm to the claim that the solution to stopping the Omicron wave is more lockdowns and vaccine and mask mandates, considering those were already in force in New York City, and it has the worst outbreak in the US.
Unfortunately, the pandemic response was long ago taken over by politics instead of science, so instead of changing policies based on what we’ve learned over the past two years, some people are still stuck on repeating the same things that don’t work and expecting a different result, which real scientist Albert Einstein defined as “insanity.”
But if we’re lucky, maybe the fact that 2022 is an election year that’s looking grim for Democrats will be a good thing in one way. It may be forcing the media to abandon their COVID panic-stoking, if for no other reason than voters are fed up with the Democrats’ iron-fisted and counterproductive COVID policies and getting ready to kick them out of office. That’s the real reason why we’re suddenly seeing stories from liberal media outlets about how maybe, instead of shutting down the world over and over, we just need to learn to live with COVID, the way we have with every other virus since the dawn of time.

Even Dr. Fauci is suddenly admitting things that would have gotten anyone else banned from Twitter for promoting “misinformation” a few months ago.

It’s not as if the news media are suddenly willing to pay attention to science and start thinking rationally instead of inciting panic. It’s just that they’ve found an even bigger epidemic to panic over: the possibility that if they don’t knock off the hysteria, a wave of Republicans is about to envelop Washington.
5. RIP Jeanine Ann Roose:
Sad to report that Jeanine Ann Roose died Friday at her home in Los Angeles at 84. She was a child actress who appeared a lot on radio before leaving show business, and she had only one movie role. But it was the one movie to be in to achieve film immortality. She played young Violet Bick in the Christmas classic “It’s a Wonderful Life,” the character played by Gloria Grahame as an adult. 6. CNN embarrasses itself:
CNN kept up its New Year’s Eve tradition of allowing drunken, irresponsible guests to embarrass themselves on camera. This year, it was Comedy Central’s Andy Cohen, who went on a drunken diatribe against departing Mayor Bill DeBlasio that went viral. They also inadvertently allowed some raunchy puns to sneak by in tweets shown on-air. (Warning: foul language at this link):
But the writer Bonchie at Redstate.com made a great point about Cohen’s DeBlasio rant: New Yorkers still haven’t learned their lesson.
For all his vitriol aimed at DeBlasio, we can be pretty certain Cohen is a Democrat and remains one. New Yorkers elected DeBlasio in a landslide, watched him destroy the Giuliani miracle, then reelected him in a landslide, then replaced him with another Democrat who vows to be tougher on crime (we’ll see), but still agrees with 90% of the awful policies DeBlasio instituted.
We saw how bad NYC had to get in the ‘80s before New Yorkers finally elected a Republican to clean up the mess. I shudder to think how much worse it will have to get before they ever do that again. But at least those who are still left after all the sane people move out will have something to complain to each other about: the terrible policies of the people they keep electing and reelecting.
7. Huck's Hero:
A big Huck’s Hero salute to Sharon Sutherland, a teacher with a very kind heart.
Sharon was moved by the story of Rebecca Marsala, who was trapped for five hours and hospitalized when a tornado collapsed the candle factory in Mayfield, Kentucky. The tornado destroyed everything Rebecca owned, even her car that was in the factory parking lot.
Sharon had been preparing to sell her Dodge Stratus, but she said she woke up at 3 in the morning, after God put the idea into her head that “You need to take that car to Mayfield.” She said, “So I told my husband…’You are going to think I’m crazy.’ And he said, ‘I’m pretty sure you are crazy, but I think it’s a great idea.’”
With help from the local sheriff, she located Marsala and drove four hours to give her car to her. Click the story to read the rest, but prepare to shed a tear or two.
