UPDATE: Donald Trump announced that he will attend the Al Smith Dinner in New York, a fundraiser for Catholic children’s charities that the candidates traditionally attend, where they make humorous speeches ribbing each other to show unity. Harris became the first Democrat since Walter Mondale in 1984 to decline, with her campaign saying it’s more important for her to campaign in Pennsylvania. But Chuck Schumer said he might be able to convince her to attend because he suspects that her schedulers made that decision and not her.
So, conclusions:
1. Trump is gladly taking time out from campaigning to honor the tradition, promote unity and help children.
2. The Democrats think that clinging onto power is more important than any of those things, even if it would take only a few hours of her time.
3. Kamala wants to be President, but she doesn’t even make the decisions about where she will be on a daily basis, which really does make her like Joe Biden in a skirt.
Didn’t seem like such a major story when I started telling it, did it?
Every year, the Al Smith Dinner is held to raise money for Catholic charities that help children in New York City. It’s a longstanding tradition that in election years, the Presidential candidates both attend and give humorous speeches. But not this year. Surprise: Kamala Harris has canceled. She claims she’s busy (doing WHAT? Oh, a "campaign event.")
Translation: There will be a lot of reporters there and they might ask her questions. Instead, she’ll be off someplace where she can safely dispense her word salads off a teleprompter.
It’s not yet confirmed whether Trump will appear, but as recently as last week, it was announced that both Trump and Harris would participate. The fact that the emcee will be comic Jim Gaffigan, who has made no secret of his disdain for Trump, didn’t seem to scare Trump away.
