Unsurprising tragic news
The suspect arrested in yesterday’s shooting spree that locked down Memphis and injured three people and killed four, including a 17-year-old girl, is a repeat offender out on early release. He was previously charged with attempted murder, pleaded down to a lesser charge, was sentenced to three years in prison and released back onto the streets after just 11 months.

This wasn’t even the only shocking violent crime that happened in Memphis this week, as the news is still filled with the horrific abduction and murder of Eliza Fletcher, allegedly by a suspect who was convicted of raping a man when he was just 14 and who also recently was released early after serving 20 years of a 24-year sentence for kidnapping a woman at gunpoint.
There are also several other newsmaking crimes out of Memphis, including the ambush of a police officer and the abduction of a woman and her baby from a Target parking lot.
Sadly, the people of Memphis will likely have to get used to such outrages because voters recently chose to replace their Republican mayor and district attorney with two Democrats, the DA being backed by George “Empty the jails and defund the police” Soros. Todd Starnes asked the outgoing DA what Memphis would look like under a Soros-backed DA, and she replied that it would look "like San Francisco.” Sounds like it already does.

By coincidence, Ann Coulter’s new column is about Memphis’ crime problem and the nationwide crime wave set off by insane criminal-coddling Democrat policies, as well as the current ludicrous campaign to try to convince us that it’s the Democrats who back the police and will “make America safer.” Only if you consider it “safer” to take guns away from law-abiding citizens so they can’t shoot any of the poor rapists, armed robbers and murderers that the Dems keep letting out of jail.
A surprise victory for religious freedom
In a surprise victory for religious freedom, an Obama-appointed federal judge ruled that the state of New York cannot force New Hope Family Services, a Christian adoption agency, to place children with same-sex or unmarried couples.
Usually in cases like this, the state tries to impose its will by saying its rules must apply to all agencies receiving state funding, but NHFS is a private agency that receives no state funds. So the state was trying to force them to violate their religious beliefs just on the general principle that if you live in New York, you have to be a big woke liberal – sort of like how Gov. Kathy Hochul feels about Republican residents (she accuses them of not being real New Yorkers and tells them to move to Florida.)
Sadly for such wannabe dictators, the judge recognized that there is this thing called the First Amendment, and state officials have no authority to regulate the beliefs of private religious organizations as if they were engaging in government speech. It’s a welcome ruling, and one that could impact many other private religious organizations that are fighting similar attempts by government agencies to force them into putting the edicts of leftist politicians ahead of the word of God.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is getting razzed for saying that Russia is weaponizing energy by shutting down the “Nordstrom” pipeline.

I think she meant the Nord Stream pipeline, although it would also be upsetting if they shut down the pipeline of stylish yet semi-affordable designer activewear.
The dumber you get, the more liberal you are
Proving that one of the major hallmarks of being a loyal Democrat these days is gullibility, a new WPA Intelligence survey found that 22% of Democrats agree with the statement, “Some men can get pregnant.”

Astoundingly, when narrowed down to only women, the percentage actually rose. And when filtered to include only white, college-educated, female Democrats, a stunning 36% agreed that men can get pregnant. So if you needed proof that the more liberalism that gets poured into your skull, the dumber you get, there you go.

Interesting article by blogger Robert Zimmerman, compiling a growing body of studies and evidence from around the world suggesting that virtually everything governments did to respond to COVID-19 – business closures, school lockdowns, mask mandates, social distancing and more – was at best useless and at worst, more deadly and destructive than the virus itself. And it was all done at the expense of crushing freedom of speech and legitimate scientific inquiry. Heck of a job, guys!
