Hunter Biden is scheduled to appear Wednesday for a closed-door session of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee and the House Judiciary Committee, the two committees handling the House impeachment inquiry into President Biden.

Notice we didn’t say he’ll be “answering questions,” because, who knows?  Likely he’ll grandstand and/or dodge questions in lawyerly fashion, as he’s had plenty of time to prepare for that.  Hunter could always quietly plead the Fifth, of course, but his very aggressive attorneys will probably choose to let him lash out in defiance instead, as drama is more their style.  Kevin Morris and his production team will probably be waiting just outside the door, cameras in tow.

This interview will be different from all the others, because Hunter apparently gets his own rules.  There will be no video camera in the room --- ironic, since Hunter sought out the cameras last time, when he chose to give an outdoor press conference rather than comply with his subpoena.  Also, the transcript is to be released right away, probably within 24 hours, to avoid selective leaks.  (Actually, I think that’s a good idea for all transcripts.)

Right now, there are no discussions in the works for a public hearing after this closed-door one.  That seems curious, considering that Hunter originally had only wanted to do the public one.  But a spokesperson for the Oversight Committee said that the committees do intend to hold public hearings.

One has to wonder if Hunter has conferred again with his dad on how he plans to conduct himself.  Recall that last time, when Hunter dodged the subpoena, White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre blurted out that President Biden “was certainly familiar with what his son was going to say.”  For anyone who WASN’T a Biden or other favored Democrat, that comment would likely have led to an investigation for obstruction of justice.

RELATED:  As you know, the “Justice” Department missed Congress’s deadline to turn over the transcripts of President Biden’s two-day interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur, who heads the classified documents investigation of the President.  Hur, as you know, laid out the examples of misconduct by Biden but said, essentially, that they wouldn’t be charging him because of his [Biden’s] mental incompetence, as revealed in his testimony.  The White House denies this, so….let’s go to the videotape!  And the written transcript and any pertinent notes.  To that end, House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer of Kentucky and House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan of Ohio have followed up with a subpoena and cover letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland.

The letter states that “conducting an impeachment inquiry based on anything less than all pertinent evidence would be an affront to the Constitution and irreparably damage public faith in the impeachment process.”
