1. Pelosi replaced

As expected, House Democrats elected Rep. Hakeem Jeffries to be Nancy Pelosi’s successor as their new Minority Leader. I’d like to thank them for choosing someone whom Republicans can point to from now on, every time they accuse a Republican of not being fit to hold office because he/she is an “election denier.”
Meanwhile, the race for Speaker is still up in the air, as presumed winner Kevin McCarthy is having trouble getting the more conservative “Freedom Caucus” Republicans to support him. That’s caused a group of more centrist Republicans to suggest that if he doesn’t win, they might work with Democrats to vote in a speaker who would be less conservative than McCarthy.
As much as I sympathize with my fellow conservatives, I would remind them that politics is “the art of the possible.” Standing on principle until you find yourself locked out of power does nothing at all to advance your agenda, and even sets it back. If you don’t have a more conservative alternative to McCarthy who can win, then cut a deal with him to get what you can before you lose all your future leverage.
This isn’t a new concept. Aesop wrote a fable about it 2,500 years ago.

2. Biden giveaway hits legal barrier

President Biden’s attempted giveaway of over half a trillion dollars of the taxpayers’ money to pay off his voters' student loans just hit another legal barrier. A three-judge panel of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously refused to lift a stay on it by a lower court judge who found it unlawful and unconstitutional.

The Fifth Circuit Court has yet to rule on whether the loan payoff scheme can go forward (the Eighth Circuit has already rejected it), but this isn’t a good sign for Biden. It blocks him from rushing out all the money before the Court can strike it down. It’s widely believed he wanted to follow the popular legal theory known as “It’s better to ask forgiveness than permission,” the same tactic used by unscrupulous developers who knock down historic buildings or animal habitats in the dead of night, then the next day channel George Costanza and say, “Oh, was I not supposed to do that? Well, too late to take it back now!”
I always found it amusing how Democrats can carp all day about the “lawless, authoritarian” Donald Trump, but whenever some liberal activist judge in Podunk put a stay on a Trump order that he clearly had the power to enact, Trump’s people would obey the order, follow the procedure and appeal it. President Joe “Return to Normalcy” Biden instead slanders the judges and tries to find some way to sneak around their rulings.
Sounds as if the Fifth Circuit judges are well aware that they’re dealing with the George Costanza Presidency.
Related: Another thing about George Costanza is that if one crazy scheme to break the rules didn’t work, he could immediately come up with a new one. Like, if he can’t get taxpayers to pay off his loans, just find a way to keep delaying the payment date to infinity, which will still end up costing the taxpayers nearly $300 billion.
3. Bipartisan railroad bill passes House and goes to the Senate

Wednesday, the House passed a bipartisan bill to force a labor agreement and derail a potential devastating railroad strike. It now goes to the Senate, where big labor Democrats like Bernie Sanders are threatening to block it unless the workers get more concessions.

This was a rare occasion where President Biden crossed the labor unions and asked Congress to intervene. As you might recall, I told you before the election that the White House was taking bows for “averting” a rail strike when all they’d actually done was kick the problem down the road until sometime after the election. Well, that time is here and they still have no solution, so whether the unions like it or not, Biden turned to the Congress to make them accept an agreement and stay on the job, and they are not happy about it. It’s going to be interesting to see how this turns out over the long haul.
4. CRT under examination

The purveyors of CRT (Critical Race Theory) have developed a number of dodges to avoid having to answer for the divisive, racist poison they spew, from claiming it’s racist to criticize their racism to denying that they’re spreading CRT, even when they’re doing it right before our eyes. Let’s hope that the federal courts won’t be so easily bamboozled, because the virtue-signalling city of Seattle and its Democrat Mayor are about to have to answer for their CRT obsession to a federal judge.

Joshua Diemert, a former Seattle Human Services Department worker, is suing them for $300,000 in lost earnings and declaratory relief for discriminating against him for being white, in violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment and the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (that's the bill fought for by earlier civil rights activists who believed that people should be judged by the content of their character, not their skin color. Those racists!)
Diement is armed with a long list of egregious examples of the city’s openly anti-white racial discrimination in the guise of CRT, including forcing white employees to attend segregated “training sessions,” where they’re told that they internalize and reinforce racial discrimination and are “complicit in the system of white supremacy,” and they are forced to look at degrading racist materials that label them as white supremacists.
Diemert says the discrimination against him became so pervasive and hostile that it had a negative impact on his physical and mental health. He realized he would never advance in his job because of his skin color, and he was even pressured to resign to clear the way for a person of color to be promoted into his job. He also offers as evidence the mission statement of the city’s “Race and Social Justice Initiative,” which starts off with “We lead with race,” and goes downhill from there (you can read it at the link, and brace yourself: you couldn’t find a clearer proclamation of pride in being a racist outside of a KKK cocktail mixer.)
I wish Mr. Diemert all the luck in the world with his lawsuit. May it become a class action lawsuit against every institution that's trying to bring back official "systemic" racism and segregation. And might I suggest that if the Southern Poverty Law Center wants to start rehabilitating its tattered reputation that it take up Mr. Diemert’s cause and help him and all workers who have suffered blatant racial discrimination to sue their CRT-pushing employers. After all, the SPLC got famous by filing civil lawsuits against the KKK. Here’s their chance to return to their roots and actually do something to wipe out real racism again.
5. CNN is shrinking

While I’m certainly no fan of CNN, I hate to see anyone lose their job, especially so close to Christmas. But the employees can’t say they didn’t see this coming.
Interesting, though, that all these layoffs are coming just one week after the new CEO Chris Licht dismissed suggestions that the network was going to become “more centrist.”
CNN’s audience and now its staff are shrinking at an alarming rate, but they’re not going to do anything to grow the audience, like stop being leftwing propagandists and just start reporting the news again. If the bosses have to fire a lot of people to protect that stance, then it’s a sacrifice they’re willing to make. Here’s a suggested ad slogan for them. “CNN: The Spinal Tap of News Networks! We’re not losing fans; our appeal is just becoming more selective!”
6. Election Math

Americans have been hearing a lot of unlikely, odds-defying election news lately, like that Trump won almost all the bellwether counties and still lost the election, or that polls showing a red wave were all wrong. Add a new one, courtesy of Arizona: In a state where Republicans outnumber Democrats, Republican turnout was up and Democrat turnout was down, but somehow, the Democrats still won.
For those who still have some faith in math, there’s a lot more in that story that you should see, particularly the video showing the long, long, long line of voters who were left waiting for hours in Maricopa County. Republican Kari Lake is behind Democrat Katie Hobbs (who, I’ll keep reminding you, refused to recuse herself from being in charge of running this drunken hoedown of an election) by only about 17,000 votes. In one polling place alone, there were 675 people still waiting when the polling place closed. They were told they could continue to wait and eventually vote, but an estimated 500 gave up, and it was too late to go vote anywhere else, so 500 voters were effectively disenfranchised at just one polling place.
There were 70 known malfunctioning polling places in Maricopa County, and possibly as many as 114. To use an antiquated phrase, “You do the math.”
This is why Lake refuses to concede and is now pursuing legal action to force a revote in Maricopa County that would be run by “competent, unbiased people.” Good luck finding some!
