New Study

A new study by the Manhattan Institute found that the current push to force Americans to drive electric vehicles “would increase consumer costs, make the electric grid more vulnerable to blackouts, threaten national security and may not even lead to fewer greenhouse gas emissions.” Throw in that it would leave millions of people stranded and blocking traffic with dead batteries and it pretty much verifies everything I’ve been telling you on this subject for years.

Not ready

Our military under “Commander in Chief” Biden might not be able to draw enough recruits to maintain readiness or keep more than 60% of our submarines in operational condition, but at least they’re nailing down the important part of running the military: forcing female recruits to shower with and sleep between men who claim to “identify” as women.

https://www.foxnews.com/media/female-recruit-considered-resigning-being-forced-shower-trans-women-full-male-genitalia

Gee, I wonder why they can’t get enough women to volunteer for the military?

Nadler attacks

Last week, Democrat Rep. Jerry Nadler attacked the FBI whistleblowers, claiming that they were paid $250,000 by a Trump associate for their testimony. If you are shocked to learn that Nadler was making an outrageously false accusation, then I hope you didn’t hurt yourself when you just fell off the turnip truck.

Must-Read:

A new survey found that a shockingly high number of young people think Americans should go to jail for “misgendering” someone – that is, for failing to use that person’s “preferred pronouns,” no matter how indecipherable or contrary to obvious reality they may be. In Michigan, where voters recently reelected one of the most tyrannical COVID-era Governors, the state is considering making that a felony. In short, goodbye First Amendment freedom of speech.

At the link, blogger Tom Knightson examines this alarming social contagion in more detail.

https://tomknighton.substack.com/p/a-growing-problem-with-pronouns

I’ve already written about the nonsense of “personal pronouns” and how demanding that everyone learn and use some specific term for each individual completely negates the entire concept of having pronouns. But I will offer a solution to this that might shock some of our addlepated younger Americans who don’t appreciate the Bill of Rights back to reality:

If you pass these laws, they apply to everyone, even people you disagree with. I will declare that as a heterosexual male, my preferred pronoun is “normal.” If you fail to call me “normal,” I will press charges and have you jailed.

I’ll bet free speech is suddenly starting to look pretty good again, isn’t it?

We are 289 paid subscribers away from reaching our July subscriber recruitment goal for my politics newsletter.

Big Tech, such as Facebook and Google, are making it harder for Republican opinions to reach voters . So today I would like you to consider subscribing to the paid version of my Substack newsletter.

A Substack subscription-based newsletter allows my team and I to focus on what matters: the writing and the research we do to back up the writing, instead of worrying about what Google is saying about me, how they are handling advertising on our website or whether or not my work shows up when you search for it.

AINSWORTH: Why we keep hammering on deep state corruption

By Laura Ainsworth, Huckabee staff writer/researcher

From L. Davis:

You know what, Mike, why do you even bring this crap up? You know and I know that nothing is ever done to get Justice done. I’m sick and tired of all this lip service, I want to see results. Where are all of our “so called Conservative congressmen and senators” — nothing but BS lip service!!!

From D. Jennings:

Now it's been confirmed...so what?  Nothing is going to happen to anyone involved. So sad for our country…

From G. Hicklin (excerpt):

Another lengthy discourse on something that we already know is a sham and legal disgrace, but no resolution. I'm just not clear on what the intent of these kinds of articles is.

The Governor and writing staff have received a number of similar letters recently from our valued Substack readers.  (Thanks so much, by the way, for helping us overcome Big Tech’s attempts to demonetize the newsletter.)  These letters seem to come from the same shared place of, “Why do you bother writing about the deep state?  No one’s going to jail --- at least the ones who deserve it --- so there’s no point any more in even discussing it.”

I’ve addressed this personally to a few readers in the comments section but don’t seem to be making much headway, as the same readers continue to write in to make the same point over and over.  So to all who feel that way, this commentary is for you.

My first thought is that there’s an irony to the thinking that there’s no point in discussing the two-tier justice system because we’re stuck with a two-tier justice system. The current administration would LOVE for us to give up, stop paying attention, take our ball and go home. Before Election Day.

Yesterday, Dan Bongino said he’s been getting the same complaint about the time he’s spent talking about DOJ, FBI and Secret Service corruption.  (He was a Secret Service agent for over a decade and offers invaluable perspective on White House protocol.)  Some listeners are put off by his updates to this seemingly endless saga, certain that justice will never be done.  If there’s no accountability, they’d just as soon not hear about it

Dan responded forcefully to this criticism.  The news had just broken that rogue Special Counsel Jack Smith sent a “target letter” to President Trump communicating to him essentially that he’s ready to indict him on charges relating to January 6.  Dan is tired of being told to lay off those stories just when things are getting this bad.

We reported about the Jack Smith letter, a story that would be run-of-the-mill in your typical police state but that is new in this country, as we are a new police state.  Bongino is one of a relative handful of commentators (we proudly include ourselves in that group) who’ve really tried to stay at the leading edge when it comes to reporting on the corruption in this administration, with its many Obama holdovers.

Bongino said yesterday in his podcast that he’s not reporting these stories for people to “watch and throw popcorn.”  The police state is already here, he stated flatly, with Jack Smith as the head witch-hunter.  “Ladies and gentlemen, none of this is going to stop until you take your country back,” he warned.  “Do you understand?  This is a hands-on operation.  This is a political boxing match where you’ve got to get in the ring, okay?...You have to be an activist, you have to go knock on doors, you’re gonna have to donate, it’s gonna require money.  We’ve got to get [Trump] back in office.  And when we get back in office, no holds barred.”

It’s a fight for our rights, which the left is determined to take away.  “The Constitution only means something if there’s fidelity to it,” Bongino said.

Obviously, this administration has no fidelity to the Constitution. Those crafty DC attorneys read it the way W. C. Fields used to say he read the Bible: “looking for loopholes.”  They’ll ruin your life if it means their side wins.  And our almost-daily revelations about the DC Swamp aren’t meant to inspire you to write what’s-the-use comments to conservative newsletters.

They’re meant to ANGER YOU.  They’re meant to light a fire under you with the knowledge that we have little more than a year to turn this mess around or our country is lost.  Our Constitution is lost.  WE are lost.  And so the change has to happen with the next election, no matter how much the left games the system.  The American people have to understand what’s at stake and rally accordingly.

We have a lot working against us, sure, but I’m not going to dwell on those things now.  As Bongino said, our country has come through times that were arguably worse for civil liberties:  slavery and the Civil War, Jim Crow, the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II.  We rose out of those low points, he reasoned, so we can emerge from this.  He said he’s actually glad the left is behaving the way they are, because they’re showing us WHAT they are.  He’s right; they’re showing us what we have to fight.  As we’ve said often, you can’t defeat an enemy unless you know what it is.

To those who don’t care about updates on the White House cocaine story because “nothing will happen,” I’d say the way it’s being handled by the White House and Secret Service is incredibly significant.  Our original thought that this was likely a “drug drop” appears to be supported by inside sources.  The coke wouldn’t necessarily have been left for Hunter, though it might’ve been, but perhaps for another Biden or someone working closely with them. Watch this space, because I’m serious when I say that how this plays out could affect the ‘24 election.

Now, before I move on to a few (yes) deep state updates, let’s break the tone with a little humor.  Here’s the BABYLON BEE’s hilarious take on some very obvious Biden family corruption…

https://babylonbee.com/news/biden-says-giant-oversized-check-from-burisma-hes-holding-is-right-wing-misinformation

For those who buy that the FBI was just making “suggestions” to social media to censor non-approved narratives, Margot Cleveland tells how the Federal Trade Commission targeted Twitter through a third party (an independent auditing firm) because of Elon Musk’s support of free speech.  According to Twitter, “Musk’s acquisition of Twitter produced a sudden and drastic change in the tone and intensity of the FTC’s investigation into the company.”  This is a deep dive and very lawyerly, but well worth your time.

https://thefederalist.com/2023/07/17/bidens-ftc-punished-twitter-for-seceding-from-the-censorship-complex/

We’ve kept you up to date on the quest to move the FBI to a huge new headquarters in the suburbs of DC.  Now, Republicans who aim to break up the deep state are talking about moving them to Huntsville instead.  No, not the prison in Huntsville, Texas, as fitting a destination as that would be for some.  Huntsville, Alabama.  Details...

In an update to yesterday’s story about the FBI supervisory agent who confirmed the testimony of two IRS whistleblowers, REDSTATE reports that this agent told the House Oversight Committee he’d been warned in a letter by FBI General Counsel Jason Jones that he was supposed to “decline to respond” to questions about the “ongoing” Hunter Biden case.

https://redstate.com/nick-arama/2023/07/18/fbi-tried-to-prevent-former-agent-from-answering-house-oversight-committee-questions-on-hunter-probe-n778574

REDSTATE has more details about the “target letter” that Jack Smith sent to Trump --- what’s in it, and what is not.

https://redstate.com/bobhoge/2023/07/18/source-trump-target-letter-does-not-mention-sedition-or-insurrection-ex-prez-only-person-named-n778629

If anything about the two-tier justice system would make you angry, I’d think it would be this.  Rabidly partisan Michigan attorney general Michigan Dana Nessel has indicted 16 Republicans over an alleged “fake elector” scheme to overturn the 2020 election.  Note that it’s legal for a state to send an alternate slate of electors in case a close election flips, and six other states did this in 2020 and aren’t trying to put the alternate electors in prison for decades (FYI, most of the ones Nessel hit with multiple felony charges are in their 60s and 70s, with one being ladies in their 80s. Good thing there are no real criminals to prosecute in Michigan, like, say, in Detroit.)  And never mind the members of Congress who tried to nullify the votes of Trump electors in 2016.  REDSTATE’s analysis is a must-read.

Finally, it seems Roger Stone made news with his prediction on Sunday that Michelle Obama would be the Democrat nominee in ‘24.  “You heard it here first,” he tweeted.

https://twitter.com/RogerJStoneJr/status/1680755838653218816?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7

Actually, you heard it it HERE first, as I predicted it in this newsletter about two years ago and have never wavered.  (Please let me be wrong.)  Our archives don’t go back that far, but here’s my most recent piece on it, from November ‘22.

Republicans react to possible Trump indictment

Republican reaction was predictable to the news that special counsel Jack Smith may be planning more indictments of former President Trump, this time blaming him for inciting the January 6th riot. It’s almost universal support for Trump.

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/07/18/absolute-bullsht-gop-lawmakers-react-trump-targeted-january-6-probe/

House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik called it an “unprecedented and corrupt witch hunt” and “the latest chilling chapter in the Far Left’s un-American weaponization of the justice system against their leading political opponent.” Speaker Kevin McCarthy tweeted, “This is not equal justice. It’s wrong, and the American public is tired of it.” Marjorie Taylor Green described it perfectly with a word that I can’t repeat here, but you can read it at the link above. And Rep. Byron Daniels made the excellent point that if Smith is going to charge Trump over speeches he made before January 6th, when will we see the indictment of Bernie Sanders for speeches he made that incited the nut who shot Rep. Steve Scalise?

Perhaps the best response came from Texas Rep. Wesley Hunt, who retweeted the actual tweets that Trump put out during the riot (you remember, the ones the Democrats didn’t want Twitter to let us see?) In them, Trump urged protesters to stay peaceful, respect the police, “no violence!” and remember that “WE are the party of law and order.” This came after he said in his speech that they should make their complaints about the election known to Congress “peacefully and patriotically.”

I’d say the same thing about Trump's alleged attempt to incite violence as I did about other accusations against him by the left, including colluding with Russia and running for President to increase his wealth: If that was really his intent, he sure went about it all wrong.

Related: A theory that the real reason why Smith is trying to indict Trump for exercising his First Amendment rights is because he wants to use the 14th Amendment to block him from running for office again.

Important testimony

Today, there will be important testimony in the House relating to alleged Biden family corruption and the DOJ's attempts to cover it up, including revealing the identity of the second IRS whistleblower who alleges that pressure was applied to let Hunter Biden off the hook for his crimes. We’ll have a full report on it all tomorrow, but the opening statements by whistleblower Greg Shapley and the second whistleblower were released in advance. Read more here:

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/irs-agent-whistleblower-x-opening-statement-revealed-american-people-deserve-know-truth

Here’s a quote worth repeating from Shapley’s statement:

"I have witnessed the corrosion of ethical standards and the abuse of power that threaten our nation. It is within this context that I have chosen to shed light on these actions and expose those responsible. I recognize that while I was present at the start of this investigation and was closely involved with the investigation for roughly five years — that I am just a part of the story. My aim is to address systemic problems that have allowed misconduct to flourish. It is not a call for blame but a call for accountability and reform."

I hope certain members of the House have their dictionaries at the ready so they can look up the word “accountability” and learn what it means.

America supports Israel

Tuesday, the House overwhelmingly passed a resolution supporting Israel and affirming that it is not a racist or apartheid state. That’s such an obvious statement that it should go without saying, but Republicans pressed the issue because too many Democrats have been loudly saying the opposite lately. The Democrats’ anti-Semitism problem reared up again last weekend when “Progressive” Caucus chair Rep. Pramila Jayapal told some pro-Palestinian protesters, "I want you to know that we have been fighting to make it clear that Israel is a racist state.” Hit with a tsunami of criticism, she quickly reversed herself and even voted for the resolution, although whether that was out of sincerity or expediency, I’ll leave up to you.

https://townhall.com/tipsheet/spencerbrown/2023/07/19/house-vote-israel-support-n2625872

The final vote on the resolution was about as bipartisan as we’re ever likely to see: 412-9. But again, whether all those Democrats really support Israel or just wanted to put distance between themselves and the anti-Semitic comments of their radical colleagues is an open question. Only 43 House Democrats signed onto a letter condemning Jayapal’s remarks before making the on-the-record show of voting for the resolution.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/house-approves-pro-israel-resolution-after-outcry-over-jayapal-comments/ar-AA1e2nre

I’m sure it won’t surprise you to learn that those voting against the resolution included far-left “Squad” members Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman of New York, Summer Lee of Pennsylvania, Andre Carson of Indiana and Delia Ramirez of Illinois. Minnesota Democrat Betty McCollum bravely voted “present.”

Rashida Tlaib had some typically repulsive and ignorant comments, including comparing Israel to Apartheid-era South Africa. You can read them at the link above if you want; I’m not going to infect my newsletter by repeating them.

Later today, Israeli Prime Minister Isaac Herzog will give a speech to Congress on the 75th anniversary of Israel’s founding, reaffirming the “unbreakable bond” between the US and his remarkable nation, the only democracy in the Middle East.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/israeli-president-says-his-speech-to-congress-highlights-an-unbreakable-bond-despite-us-unease/ar-AA1e37c8

Herzog was considered a more “palatable” choice for Democrats than Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (Heaven forbid they – and some Senate Republicans -- should have to listen to a national leader who unapologetically puts the good of his own people first.)

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/netanyahu-looms-over-israeli-presidents-speech-to-congress-amid-democratic-split/ar-AA1e3DXJ

Still, several leftists, including Tlaib, Omar and Bowman, say they will boycott Herzog’s speech. I’m sure their presence will be sorely missed, about as much as I miss a poison ivy rash when it finally goes away.

I was glad to see that President Biden also affirmed America’s relationship with Israel. At least, that’s what I THINK he said…

The more the democrats continue with their 'witch hunt' against Trump, the more determined I am to never vote for a demorat again!! The area we live in used to be firm demorats but they have changed a LOT!!! There's lots of people who not only vote republican, but they support various republicans! I don't have any ability - financially or physically - to support republican but I sure will make sure to vote republicans!!!

Just want to say Substack no longer works. I paid for it and it won't let me in now.
Also the left coast coast is the model for WH insanity. Now they are talking about per mile Trax because EVs don't pay gas taxes. We have the highest in Washington state now. The governor and his feudal lords have bankrupted the state spiritually and morally. Many churches are now controlled by the rich left and trans sexuals! I don't expect a response as I never got one before.

    Dear Sir,

In reading your newsletter of July 19, 2023, I must respond. I live in Alabama. Huntsville has already been primarily contaminated, with many West Coast companies bringing in their liberal employees. If the FBI were to move to a city such as Huntsville, there would be mass hysteria and firebombs aplenty. This state does not take kindly to outside interference. Mind you; I am not promoting such behavior. I am only predicting such events based on several years living among this state's kind and well-mannered citizens. I now consider myself among them. However, fortunately, I am not located in that part of the state, and a protest of that sort in this part of the state would be a normal everyday occurrence.

I hope this email provides a bit of an uplifting read for you this morning. There are many of us in this country who read your letter and agree, and most of us will fight the good fight without violence. However, we descend from those who fought to birth this nation and others who fought in every battle to preserve it. I have had kin in every one of those battles, and my blood would revolt against my body if I sought to avoid a battle for the freedom of this nation.

We do not threaten. We stand steadfast and remain vigilant.

    James
