At last “the truth is out there” about January 6
The previously unreleased January 6 footage “does prove beyond doubt that Democrats in Congress, assisted by Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney, lied about what happened that day. They are liars. That is conclusive. And that fact should prevent them from ever being taken seriously again.”
That was Tucker Carlson on Monday evening, three weeks after his producers received complete access to the Capitol Hill surveillance video from January 6. They’ve spent these weeks going through about 40,000 hours of this. Unfortunately, as Tucker explained in his lead-in, they didn’t have access to facial recognition equipment, so questions about some identities were left unresolved.

According to Tucker, “virtually no one in Washington, Republican or Democrat, certainly not in the news media, wanted to see this tape released tonight. (Democrat Rep. Jamie Raskin called Tucker “pro-Putin.” Seriously??) That’s why it’s remained hidden for more than two years.” There were howls that this would put lives at risk, “even though,” Tucker said, “these are the same people who support open borders and defunding the police.” Touche.
The protesters who went to the Capitol that day “were angry,” Tucker said. “They believed that the election they had just voted in had been unfairly conducted. And they were right. In retrospect, it is clear the 2020 election was a grave betrayal of American democracy. Given the facts that have since emerged about that election, no honest person can deny it. Yet the beneficiaries of that election continue to lie about what is now obvious.” They continue to say that “Donald Trump led an insurrection against the duly-elected American government.”
Before we go on, I don’t want to hear from anyone about how “partisan” it was to let Tucker’s producers look through these videos. The Democrats who first were given access to them were on a thoroughly partisan seek-and-destroy mission against President Trump and anyone supporting him that day, even in the most innocent, nonviolent ways. Trying to prevent Trump from ever running for President again, the committee voted unanimously to refer him to the DOJ for criminal prosecution. Anyone who didn’t have a problem with them doing that needs to go to the back of the room right now, sit down and, well, shut up.
No, it’s not my style to say something like that, but it really is what they need to do, while we learn what Paul Harvey used to call “the rest of the story.” We’re looking for the truth here and are sick of phony narratives. Now that these producers have seen the video, they conclude that the committee members lied about what is in it and hid the evidence from the public --- “as well as from January 6 criminal defendants and their lawyers.”
The producers weren’t interfered with by anyone in Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s office or by anyone at FOX NEWS, Tucker said. They were given access to computers with advanced mapping software that helped them find what they were looking for more quickly. But since they couldn’t identify faces, they assumed that those who weren’t arrested after exhibiting behavior that put others into handcuffs were likely “federal agents of some sort.” Since they couldn’t be sure of this, they didn’t put images of those people on the air. And before deciding to broadcast any of the video, they checked with the Capitol Police, who had only minor reservations, ultimately involving showing the location of a single interior door. The producers acquiesced to their concern.
“There were many examples of behavior we saw in those tapes that didn’t seem to make sense,” he said. “Taken as a whole, the video record does not support the claim that January 6 was an insurrection. In fact, it demolishes that. And that’s exactly why the Democratic Party and its allies in the media prevented you from seeing it.”
After showing some of the pictures we’ve all seen over and over of the riot going on outside the Capitol, Tucker showed some previously unseen video showing Capitol Hill officers actually escorting and opening locked doors for protesters --- even U.S. Navy veteran Jacob Chansley, 33, the so-called “QAnon shaman” with the horned helmet, who ended up being sentenced to four years in prison for his harmless, peaceful sojourn --- inside the building. If Chansley, to cite just one example, was committing a crime, why wasn’t he arrested on the spot? And why wasn’t this footage provided to his attorneys as exculpatory evidence?
“We counted at least nine officers who were within touching distance of unarmed Jacob Chansley,” Tucker said. “Not one of them even tried to slow him down. Video shows that for their trouble, Chansley said a prayer for them on the Senate floor: “Thank you Heavenly Father, for taking the inspiration needed to these police officers TO ALLOW US INTO THE BUILDING.” (Emphasis ours.)
The video shows that “hundreds and hundreds” of people, “possibly thousands,” entered the building over a period of about two hours. “A small percentage of them were hooligans,” Tucker said, and indeed they were. We have never excused the aggression and vandalism that took place. But “the overwhelming majority” were “peaceful, orderly and meek.”
“These were not insurrectionists. They were sightseers.” They took cheerful pictures and basked in the history. “They were not there to destroy the Capitol; they obviously revere the Capitol.” They had walked over from the rally to an area for which a federal permit to gather had been obtained by organizers.
If you’ve seen the documentary JANUARY 6 --- highly recommended --- you know the Capitol Hill police fired tear gas into the crowd, and some at the front got rowdy, breaking windows to enter the building.
Unfortunately, the video producers saw did not explain the fatal shooting of unarmed protester Ashley Babbitt inside the Capitol building. From the publicly available evidence, though, “it seems clear that Babbitt was murdered by a Capitol Hill police officer called Michael Byrd...Beyond that, we can only speculate what happened,” as there were no security cameras in the area where she was killed.
You’ll want to watch the entire show, which breaks the video into pieces for analysis. It shows the Democrats also lied about the death of police officer Brian Sicknick. “Causing the deaths of five police officers” has been an oft-repeated lie, along with the mantra, “Trump incited a deadly insurrection.” Democrats even tried to implicate their Republican colleagues, singling out Georgia Rep. Barry Loudermilk simply for giving a tour of the congressional office building (not the Capitol) to some constituents. They used a deceptively edited video clip to falsely claim Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley had “fled” the Capitol. The committee also withheld video that proves the mysterious Ray Epps, who remains unindicted after loudly encouraging others to enter the Capitol, lied about his whereabouts in sworn testimony.

Devine blames then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who really set this up by refusing repeated requests by the Capitol Police chief (and pre-approved by President Trump) for National Guard back-up to handle this huge rally.

Here’s the full video that shows Sen. Hawley was just trying to catch up to some other people ahead of him in the hall. He was actually in the back of a group of Congress members who were being escorted out by Capitol Police.

January 6 video: “the truth is out there,” PART 2

Tucker Carlson’s Monday night presentation on the “new,” previously hidden January 6 video caused the predictable uproar from the left, who just can’t stand that you got to see anything they didn’t want you to see.
Before we get into Tuesday’s installment, here are some highlights --- and lowlights --- from the reaction to Monday’s show…
First, Officer Brian Sicknick’s family is outraged that Tucker used video to show that he was not murdered by J6-ers but rather, as was later determined, passed away from natural causes the day after. Of course, they’re calling for Tucker to be “silenced.”

Recall that the Pulitzer Prize-winning NEW YORK TIMES had wrongly reported that Officer Sicknick was beaten to death on January 6 with a fire extinguisher blow to the head. Though they later retracted this, the idea that he was “slain” became part of the J6 lore that many still believe. After the medical examiner determined that he’d died of natural causes --- two strokes --- his family still maintains that his death resulted from a beating, and/or pepper spray, when there was no evidence of this and the officer seemed fine in video taken later that day. Also, he wore a helmet.
We’ll never know if the stress of that day indirectly contributed to his medical problem. But even that is a far cry from the lie about insurrectionists beating him to death.
The family has released a lengthy statement, a vicious diatribe against “Supreme Leader Trump” (“as corrupt and evil as Vladimir Putin”), Tucker Carlson (“delusional”) and FOX NEWS (“like Pravda”; “the propaganda arm of the Republican Party”), berating those who present Ashli Babbitt (“a criminal”) as “some kind of martyr for being shot in the process of breaking into the Capitol building.” Ashli was a petite, unarmed woman who had not broken into the Capitol building. We’ve covered the details of her tragically unnecessary death at length.
If they’re upset that the Capitol and DC Metro Police were “incredibly outnumbered,” they might want to ask why House leadership allowed that situation. Tucker was NOT “downplaying the horrid situation faced by the...police,” as they claimed. Just the opposite: he denounced the shameful lack of back-up security that day. Do they even know President Trump approved the deployment of 20,000 National Guard troops and that Nancy Pelosi turned his offer down?
Tucker is right to say this was not an insurrection. There was violence in the crowd at certain entrances to the Capitol, but the building is so huge and sprawling that many hundreds of peaceful protesters had no idea it was even happening. To acknowledge that most protesters were peaceful in no way excuses the violence.
Sicknick’s family members are speaking from a deep well of grief and don’t understand we need the full picture of what really happened. It doesn’t make him any less of a hero in anyone’s eyes. And if this fine officer actually had been killed with a fire extinguisher, Trump supporters would want to know and would be just as horrified as anyone else.
What concerns us is that Democrats scrimped on security for Trump’s event --- I believe deliberately --- and then exploited Officer Sicknick’s death for propaganda purposes. The story that he was “slain” by a “deadly insurrectionist mob” was a politically useful lie.
And here’s a piece of information you won’t find just anywhere: as THE NEW YORK POST reported three days after his death, Officer Sicknick’s friend Caroline Behringer said he’d been a Trump supporter who’d even written to his congressman to oppose Trump’s impeachment. This opinion piece by Matthew Schmitz includes snippets of letters he wrote, offering insight into why he supported Trump instead of government insiders. Perhaps Sicknick’s family is not aware of his views.

Moving on...Tucker’s producers determined that the J6 Committee added those sounds of crowd mayhem --- shouting, screams --- to the video they played in their hearings. There’s no debate about this; the closed-circuit TV (CCTV) was video-only, no audio recording at all. The NEW YORK POST called this a “deceptively edited primetime drama, produced by a former ABC NEWS president for maximum emotional impact.”
President Trump is now calling for the release of J6 detainees, some of whom are still being held pending trial over something that happened over two years ago. He praised Tucker and called this new evidence one of the “biggest scoops” in American journalism. “’Trump’ and most others are totally innocent --- LET THEM GO FREE, NOW,” he posted on Truth Social.

Now let’s turn to reactions from Senate Republicans, most notably Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky. Sadly, this news is not good. As Tristan Justice reports in THE FEDERALIST, “Senate Republicans condemned blockbuster reporting from FOX NEWS’ Tucker Carlson Tuesday, based on Democrat talking points.”
Regarding Tucker’s presentation, McConnell said, “I want to associate myself entirely with the opinion of the chief of the Capitol Police about what happened on January 6th.” Chief Tom Manger had sent a memo to his department calling Tucker’s coverage “filled with offensive and misleading conclusions.” North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis, North Dakota Sen. Kevin Cramer (who misquoted Tucker), South Dakota Sen. Mike Rounds and South Carolina Sen. Lindsay Graham were also dismissive. Mitt Romney compared Tucker to INFOWARS’ Alex Jones.
I think McConnell, and apparently Chief Manger, both fail to understand that we’ve already seen the violence. That video was presented over and over. We know about the violence. THIS is the video that until now we have NOT seen. This is “the rest of the story.”

Commentator J. D. Rucker said Tucker did “a very good job of highlighting some of the deception” surrounding January 6. He suggested four things that need to happen now:
1. (echoing President Trump) Release all political prisoners. In this, Rucker goes farther than we might, saying to release them ALL because “events that led to those crimes were manufactured...coordinated for the sole purpose of building the insurrection narrative.” True, but, as we’ve said, that doesn’t excuse actual violence and vandalism.
2. Make the tapes public. That would be a YES.
3. Investigate, charge, arrest and prosecute everyone complicit in the January 6 lies. What say you? Jail time for the likes of Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, Adam Schiff and, as Rucker says, “their merry bank of evildoers”? Well, falsifying evidence is a crime, and it seems the committee did that. We’re not attorneys and neither is Rucker, but prosecution is something to explore. Also civil litigation.
4. Keep the flow of information coming. Rucker doesn’t want this to be “a nuclear attack followed by a press release.” Make documentaries. Drop bombshells. We have to counter “two years’ worth of gaslighting and propaganda that have brainwashed most Americans into thinking the mostly peaceful events that occurred on January 6, 2021, were somehow on par with 9/11 and Pearl Harbor,” he says.
Rucker has some great ideas for being “patriotic in public” and I hope you read them. As he says, “One episode of Tucker Carlson isn’t going to make a dent.”

Moving to Tucker’s presentation Tuesday night, he first reminds us that in some cases, the DOJ didn’t share exculpatory evidence with attorneys for J6 defendants, violating their constitutional rights. Here’s his opening monologue, which also reviews major points from the previous night.
“In free countries,” he said, “governments do not lie about protests as a pretext to get more power for themselves. They don’t selectively edit video for propaganda purposes and then lie about them in fake hearings and show trials. But that’s exactly what happened, and every member of Congress should ask WHY that happened.”
Rather than asking why, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called for the censorship and demanded that FOX NEWS stop Tucker from running “a second segment of lies.” Schumer ominously said, “Conduct like theirs is just asking for another January 6 to happen.”
Needless to say, Tucker’s show went on as planned.
Tucker also brings up Sen. McConnell’s objections, along with those of the other GOP senators mentioned above. “So it’s actually not about left and right,” he says, “not about Republican and Democrat. Here you have people with shared interests…” It’s a club, he said, and they’re all showing their membership cards.
Finally, Tucker addresses the utter lack of preparedness for this huge event, despite ample warning of potential disturbance. Apparently, the front-line officers on duty were not aware of this situation and were overwhelmed. This failure of communication “has never been explained.”
He goes to an interview he did with former Lt. Tarik Johnson, a 22-year veteran of the Capitol Police who on January 6 was responsible for security during election certification. Now, here’s something strange: the Committee never called him to testify, even though he really wanted to and prayed they would ask him. “I guess the focus was on Donald Trump,” he said, “and not the failures of the Capitol Police.”
He told Tucker that on January 6, nobody answered his numerous pleas for help over Capitol Hill Police radio frequencies, even after protesters began entering the Capitol. He’s still baffled as to why. Assistant Chief (in charge of intel operations) Yogananda Pittman, he said, kept needed information about the protest from front-line officers. When he just couldn’t raise anyone to give him authorization to evacuate Senators, he made the judgment call to go ahead anyway.
As Tucker explained, he wasn’t rewarded for his quick thinking. Instead, he was punished because outside the Capitol, he was photographed wearing a MAGA hat that someone in the crowd had handed him. He says he put it on to help him get through the crowd while trying to rescue fellow officers who were trapped inside the building. It was for de-escalation --- smart thinking! But “for the crime of wearing the Trump hat, Johnson found himself suspended. Ultimately, he resigned from the force and lost his pension.”
He now has a part-time job moving furniture. Yogananda Pittman, on the other hand, was rewarded two days after the riot for her apparent ineptitude. She got promoted to acting chief of the Capitol Police. Just last month, she moved to a prestigious job as head of security at UC Berkeley, “which is right outside Pelosi’s congressional district,” Tucker notes.

Johnson told Tucker he was “shocked” by the partisanship he saw within the Capitol Police after January 6. Historically, they’ve always been neutral, but no more, it seems.

The targeting of Elon Musk; Shellenberger testifies today
Before we get into the story of what the left is trying to do to Elon Musk for daring to expose the truth about Twitter, here’s an update on January 6 and Jason Chansley. Chansley, alternately dubbed “the QAnon shaman” or “Chewbacca,” was sentenced to four years in prison simply for going into the Capitol building in a Viking helmet and, escorted by hospitable Capitol Police officers who even opened the door for hm, peacefully entering the Senate chambers. The video of this peaceful stroll that Tucker Carlson revealed on Monday was exculpatory to Chansley, though J6 prosecutors had withheld it from the court as well as his defense.
Chansley’s attorney, Albert Watkins, had never seen this evidence (!) until it was aired Monday, and he appeared on Tucker’s show Wednesday, saying it had been his job as Chansley’s attorney to know everything “good and bad” that the government had before his client made the decision to go to trial or take a plea. It’s obvious now that the government KNEW Jacob was not violent, that he had simply walked around, casually accompanied by nine officers. As for the video, Watkins had requested what video evidence they had, but “I didn’t get it,” he said. “It wasn’t disclosed to me. It wasn’t provided to me...They had a duty, an absolute duty, with zero discretion, to provide it to me, so that I could share it with my client.”
What’s happened is “a dagger in the heart of the American justice system,” he said. After this derailment of justice, Chansley should be released from prison immediately. This innocent man also deserves restitution for his long time behind bars, and he and his lawyer will have to determine what form that should take.
“We’re living through one of those clarifying moments,” Tucker Carlson said Wednesday, “that we should be thankful for, where we’re learning exactly who the liars are.” But the liars have nothing to fall back on but rage, and, of course, more lies. A must-watch...

Some people just can’t stop lying, even when the truth is right here for all to see. Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson, who chaired the January 6 Kangaroo Kommittee, actually disputed Tucker Carlson’s claims that they deceptively edited security video footage from that day, when we absolutely know they did. And he apparently didn’t even know that Jason Chansley had been sentenced to four years in prison. “I don’t know who he is,” Thompson said. If ignorance is bliss, he must be supremely happy.

Now, on to Elon Musk, who, ever since his personal assault on public-private censorship that we find nothing less than heroic, is being subjected to an all-out assault from the left. It’s usually very easy to see when this kind of orchestrated attack has begun, as some memo/mantra is always sent out to key media friends, advising them to start using certain focus-group-tested verbiage. With Musk, for example, they know to tie his name to Rupert Murdoch’s whenever possible.
Jeff Charles at REDSTATE has noticed this, too.
Those on the left who wanted Twitter to maintain control of the political narrative were not going to go quietly when Elon Musk stepped in to stop them. As Charles put it, “The authoritarian left went into full meltdown mode over the prospect of not having supremacy over the platform any longer.”
And it’s all Elon’s fault! The left used to love Elon. Why, he was building electric cars! Cars that few besides Leo DiCaprio could afford to drive, but still! However, once he recognized and called attention to the gaslighting that was being done by the left, that love turned to hate, and they threw everything they had at him to see what would stick. They accused him of continuing to allow child pornography on Twitter. They claimed that by not moderating content the way they saw fit, he was increasing bigotry and hate on Twitter. And now, even the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has targeted him. (We’ll get to that.)
The BBC conducted their own investigation, which concluded that hundreds of accounts recently allowed back on Twitter “have been spreading abuse or misinformation.” They said they found “problematic content [editorial aside: a favorite leftist cliche] posted on the platform in over a third” of the accounts that had been restored. Read Charles’ report for details of their very-objective “study,” which focused only on accounts with right-leaning views. Progressives who engaged in the type of behavior they were purportedly studying got no mention.
Another reason the left is coming after Elon is that he’s not scared of them and will come right back, brilliantly. Take this example…
And now, Michael Shellenberger, one of the independent journalists given access by Musk to the internal communications at Twitter (the “TwitterFiles”), has tweeted: “The Biden administration is demanding that @elonmusk explain why he allowed journalists access to the Twitter Files. This is an outrageous attack on the First Amendment...I look forward to discussing this directly with Congress on Thursday morning.”
Unbelievably, the FTC is demanding to see journalists’ work product relating to the Twitter Files.
Shellenberger went on: “There is no logical reason why the FTC needs to know the identities of journalists engaging with Twitter. There is no logical reason why the FTC, on the basis of user privacy, needs to analyze all of Twitter’s personnel decisions. And there is no logical reason why the FTC needs every single internal Twitter communication about Elon Musk.”
“The strong inference from these facts is that Twitter’s rediscovered focus on free speech is being met with politically motivated attempts to thwart Elon Musk’s goals,” he continued. “The FTC’s demands did not occur in a vacuum. They appear to be the result of loud voices on the left, including elected officials --- urging the federal government to intervene in Musk’s acquisition and management of the company. The FTC’s harassment of Twitter is likely due to one fact: Musk’s self-described ‘absolutist’ commitment to free expression in the digital town square.”
But, yes, Shellenberger is testifying today about this before the House Judiciary Committee and the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government. In the Executive Summary of the Committee report, they state that as part of their responsibility to protect civil liberties, and “consistent with the Committee’s oversight responsibilities of the FTC, the Committee has been conducting oversight of the unusual response by the FTC to Musk’s acquisition of Twitter last year.”
The FTC has sent over a dozen letters to Twitter over a span of three months following Musk’s acquisition, making more than 350 specific demands. New information the Committee has acquired “shows how the FTC has been attempting to harass Twitter and pry into the company’s decisions on matters outside the FTC’s mandate.”

It was Ryan Tracy of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL who reported this story, but it’s subscription-only. Here’s more information. The FTC is even calling for information on “the launch of Twitter Blue.”
Dan Bongino had plenty to say in his Wednesday podcast: “What business is it of the FTC to question a private business, Elon Musk’s Twitter, over their HR decisions [hiring practices, etc.]?” None whatsoever. “It’s a frigging police state apparatchik,” he said, “of Joe Biden’s new police state.” The Biden appointee running the FTC, Lina Kahn, is a “freaking lunatic,” he said, “...a crazy person drunk with power, who is destroying that entity, the FTC.”
“I expect lawsuits and hearings on this immediately,” Bongino said. “It’s a big deal...please don’t let this go. Contact your congresswoman or congressman today and ask them about this, because if this continues, this bureaucratic police state, that just usurps power, starts demanding this, demanding that, then there’s nothing left, folks.”
He’s right about calling our representatives --- we’ve got to start taking a more activist role. In the meantime, even President Biden is marching in step with the left’s hard-targeting of Elon. Months ago, when asked in the press room if Musk, since his joint acquisition of Twitter “with foreign governments that include the Saudis,” was a threat to national security, Biden chuckled and then said, very slowly and deliberately, “Elon Musk’s cooperation and/or technical relationships with other countries is worthy of being looked at.” Biden is one to talk about relationships with other countries, but we’ll just let that sit.
UPDATE: Chris Bray at American Greatness reports that Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger tried to refute Tucker Carlson’s video of Capitol officers escorting a peaceful Jason Chansley around the building by claiming that they did that as a “de-escalation tactic” because they were outnumbered by the rioters and thought it would be prudent to engage with him peacefully and show him around.

Okay, that explains WHY they showed him around peacefully. But he’s sitting in a prison cell for four years because he’s convicted of violently attacking the building. The Police Chief’s own explanation is an admission that that crime didn’t happen. In fact, he’s giving his officers credit for preventing it! So why is Chansley in a federal prison, again?
Finally, please read the entire article. Bray makes a great point that this is the only specific refutation of any of Tucker’s claims by his critics. The left is railing furiously against him, calling him everything from Hitler (of course) to a “demonic sycophant” (Michael Steele on MSNBC), and claiming that by showing Americans the unedited video evidence, he’ll be responsible for “the next January 6th.” Yet not a single one of them has even tried to factually refute any of his specific points that upend their narratives.
As Bray writes, “When someone makes specific claims, and the responses are not specific, the response is not a response. It’s chaff, and it’s meant to cloud the air.” Correct: it’s intended to get you so riled up thinking what a monster Tucker Carlson is for telling you the nasty truth that you won’t ponder how they’ve led you down the garden path with lies for the past two years.

Chuck Schumer: The lowest of the low
Having been in politics longer than Ariana Grande has been alive, I have seen more than my share of blatant opportunists and unrepentant, bald-faced liars. But I have to admit, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s speech in the Senate yesterday might have set a new benchmark for the lowest I’ve ever personally witnessed.
Schumer looked Americans in the eye (or down his nose, as usual), and read into the Congressional Record a demand that a news outlet with First Amendment protection (Fox News) be censored because one of its reporters was showing unaltered video proving that Schumer and his cohorts have been lying to us all for two years, and that their lies have resulted in the prosecution and imprisonment of American citizens who are more than likely innocent. Schumer actually expects us to believe that by letting the American people see the full evidence from the surveillance cameras on January 6th instead of the cherry-picked, edited and altered excerpts that the Democrats and their partisan allies wanted us to see, Speaker McCarthy “enabled the big lie and has further eroded away at our precious democracy.” McCarthy has responded to that:
As I’ve written before, it’s now apparent that the real “Big Lie” of the 2020 election was that Joe Biden was a bipartisan, moderate centrist. Schumer, however, would have us believe that allowing Americans to see all the evidence and decide for themselves is an assault on “our precious democracy.” Funny, I thought that was the foundation of our jury system.
Schumer’s speech was so slimy, dishonest, self-serving, reprehensible, un-American and obviously panic-driven at the thought of his carefully-constructed tower of lies being toppled that I considered making a video myself to respond to it. But then I realized, the great Johnny Cash had already done it for me. He did it in this video:
Johnny’s words are worth quoting directly to Sen. Schumer:
