18% of Americans want Joe Biden to run again
President Biden’s poll numbers seem to be as bottomless as a cup of coffee at a good truck stop. A new Yahoo/YouGov survey finds that the number of Americans who want him to run for a second term is down to just 18 percent. Even among Democrats, only 35% want him to run again. Those are the kind of numbers you’d expect if you asked people, “Would you like to get COVID again?”
At least Biden can take comfort in knowing that his recent 29% approval rating low mark is one point higher than the 28% of Americans who still have any confidence in public schools. That includes 14% of Republicans, 29% of Independents, and 43% of Democrats. Most Americans are now praying that everything their kids will need to know, they learned in kindergarten, because they’re not going to learn it later.
More stories about EVs
Now that gas prices are so (intentionally) high and the pressure is on Americans to buy electric cars after decades of rejection, polls show that about a third of Americans might be willing to buy or lease one. But before signing on the dotted line, you should do some more research. With all the promotion of EVs has come increased scrutiny of their performance and environmental impact, and as I reported a couple of days ago, the results are, at best, “mixed.” In fact, when you factor in the pollution from manufacturing, power generation to charge them and dealing with spent batteries, some studies show gas-powered cars are actually better for the environment.
I ran a lengthy round-up of stories that added up to the recommendation that an EV could be an okay choice if you have plenty of money to buy a new car, don’t drive much, have a short commute, never take long driving trips, never tow a trailer, and live in a city with lots of high-speed charging stations and no regular blackouts (ironically, the places run by the Party that’s pushing EVs are also the ones most likely to have power outages because they can’t meet the power demands they have now.)
But it seems that more disquieting stories are coming in every day, and here’s the latest. JD Power reports that owners of battery-electric cars and plug-in hybrids report more problems than owners of gas-powered cars.
Gasoline cars average 175 problems per 100 vehicles. Hybrids average 239 problems, while electric cars average 240 problems. The gold standard of EVs, Teslas, average 226 problems. By the way, they mean problems like mechanical or electrical problems, not problems like “my battery died in the worst part of town.”
The article notes that since EVs cost on average $10,000 more than gas-powered cars, Washington is pressuring Americans to pay more for inferior quality. Then again, Washington has spent years conditioning us to expect just that.
Latest Example of “Get Woke, Go Broke”
Just over a year ago, Victoria’s Secret made a huge change in its image and business model. VS’s executives suddenly seemed embarrassed that they had built a brand on appealing to women who wanted to feel sexy and be attractive to men, so they went full tilt in the other direction. Yielding to complaints that the Victoria’s Secret Angels were sexist and elitist, they replaced them with new models meant to represent “real” women. They included plus-sized social activists and America-smearing, leftist firebrand/lesbian soccer player Megan Rapinoe, whose association with Subway actually made Americans lose their appetite for sandwiches. Here is a commentary on her recently receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Joe Biden after exhibiting constant “obnoxious, self-smitten, classless conduct”…

The VS CEO said at the time, "We are moving from what men want to what women want; we are going from a look to a feeling, from excluding most women to including all women, from mostly unattainable to grounded in real life." They were said to be swapping “sultry” for “comfort.” The very idea that women would want to look like what men think is attractive! How backward in this age of 57 genders! So how is all this wokeness working out for them?

Since last summer, Victoria’s Secret’s stock price has plunged like their necklines used to, and it dropped another 5% on Thursday after the company announced that it was peeling off 160 executives to save $40 million in salaries. I hope they axed the people who came up with the idea of caving to the woke crowd and making Megan Rapinoe their corporate symbol. $40 million for 160 executives works out to $250,000 each, so they were definitely overpaid.
Dog Food Recall
Several brands of dog treats made by a North Carolina-based company are being recalled due to a potential salmonella contamination. Protect your dogs and click the link to make sure you don’t have them in your pantry.

Hollywood producer arrested
The MeToo movement has suffered a lot of setbacks recently, but it just scored another victory in Hollywood with the arrest of Eric Weinberg on charges of serial sexual assault.
Weinberg was the executive co-producer of the long-running NBC sitcom “Scrubs,” and his other credits include “Veronica’s Closet,” “Anger Management,” “Californication” and more. He is accused of posing as a photographer and accosting women in public places, inviting them to his home for photo shoots, then assaulting or raping them. Police believe this may have been going on since the early 1990s and are appealing for other alleged victims to come forward.
Once again, an example of the most depraved victimization of women comes from the industry that constantly lectures the rest of us about our moral failings. Yet we non-Hollywood Americans hear of something like this and our impulse isn’t to keep quiet and let it go on for years. Our immediate response is, “Throw the book at him!”
Today's craziest links
The weekend is finally upon us, and I don’t want to spoil yours by listing all the utterly loony things leftists are saying. Trust me, I could fill this newsletter with them. They’ve long had a habit of accusing their opponents of doing what they’re really doing, so going by that, we can assume they’re terrorists, racists and a danger to society. Also, I think we can assume they are so desperate that they’re having a collective public mental breakdown.
To save myself having to recap all the dispatches from the leftist nut farm, I’ll just share some of today’s craziest links, and you can click on them when you need a good laugh. By the way, kudos to Don Lemon for saying something silly enough that he actually got people to pay attention to CNN.

Comment of the day
Hat tip to David E. Miller, who had this comment on Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf’s histrionic pro-trans rant upon vetoing a bill that would have banned biological males from competing in women’s sports:
“So I guess Tom Wolf is the Governor of Transylvania.”
From "Huckabee" pop culture guru Pat Reeder: Nicely played, David! Maybe when Wolf is voted out, he can get a gig in a road production of “The Rocky Horror Show,” singing, “I’m just a sweet transvestite from transsexual Transylvania.”
