Today’s leftists are like Granny Clampett from “The Beverly Hillbillies.” No matter what ails you, from a cold to rheumatism, she had a surefire remedy. It was always the same noxious brew, concocted from possum guts, white lightning and superstition. Except it didn’t really cure anything, and it usually left people feeling sicker than before they took it.

So it is with today’s left. They have a surefire useless nostrum for everything. Every social problem can be fixed by creating more government programs. Low grades and juvenile delinquency can be fixed by giving failing schools more money. In fact, every social and economic problem can be fixed by throwing money at it. Racism can be cured by blaming all of the world’s ills on white people. And all crimes can be prevented by making it harder for law-abiding citizens to obtain guns.

Sunday’s horrific mass shooting at a Boulder, Colorado, supermarket that left 10 people dead presented those on the left with two chances to apply their one-size-fits-all “solutions.” Before knowing one thing about the shooter’s identity, motives or the races of his victims, and instead of waiting for more information or simply praying for the victims, they leapt to the conclusion that he must be a white male racist and probably a Trump voter and tried to politicize a mass murder.

That giant leap for leftkind included a number of prominent people, even Vice President Kamala Harris’ “social influencer” niece, Meena Harris, who tweeted that "violent white men are the greatest terrorist threat to our country."

That racist tweet and others were quickly deleted after it was reported that the shooter was Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa. He’s a Muslim and it’s not clear where he’s from, but the DA said he’s spent most of his life in the US. All ten of his victims were white. Schoolmates described Alissa as short-tempered, unstable and paranoid; a “good kid” who would go crazy when he got mad, one time threatening to kill everybody after he lost a wrestling match. A teammate said, "Nobody believed him. We were just all kind of freaked out by it, but nobody did anything about it." He also wrote Facebook posts criticizing Trump.

Predictably, when the “blame racist white male Trump voters” narrative collapsed, leftists immediately and unapologetically pivoted to “blame the gun” and started calling for more gun control laws, with President Biden and Hollywood celebrities leading the charge.

Again, just as they keep retrying socialism in hopes it will work this time, the Democrats want to revive the “assault weapons ban” that was allowed to expire in 2004 after it was found to have virtually no effect on gun violence.

As that story notes, more people are killed with clubs or bare fists every year in the US than with AR-15 rifles. Most of the places with the highest levels of gun violence also have the most restrictive gun control laws. Without a criminal record, no background check would have stopped Alissa from getting a gun. If he really wanted to do something like this, no laws would have prevented him from getting a gun; they just would have prevented other people from being able to protect themselves from him. But here we are again. Instead of waiting to find out the facts, the left isn’t letting a crisis, no matter how tragic, go to waste when they can politicize it to revive an agenda that’s failed over and over again.
