BIBLE VERSE OF THE DAY
The Supreme Court Refuses To Hear Cases That Demand Their Attention
By Mike Huckabee
I can see why Democrats didn’t even bother pretending to claim that they want to expand the Supreme Court because of its workload. Our current SCOTUS is handling that issue by simply refusing to hear a lot of cases that truly demand their attention.
We had two examples on Monday. First, the SCOTUS refused to consider a lawsuit challenging the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s power to change mail-in voting laws on the now-familiar grounds that it’s “moot” because the election is over.
I honestly don’t understand this argument unless it’s fear of stirring up attacks from the left on anyone who doesn’t robotically swear that the last election was the “most honest, trustworthy, warmest, most wonderful election I’ve ever known in my life.” Even if this election is over, another is coming up, and if nobody settles the question of who’s allowed to write election laws (which I thought we settled by agreeing on Constitutions), then it’s just going to happen over and over again, each time eroding more public faith in the honesty of the outcome.
The SCOTUS also rejected a gun rights case that it should have taken up. The SCOTUS has previously ruled that there can be limits on the Second Amendment, such as barring convicted felons from owning guns; and this appeal was brought by three convicted felons who lost their right to own firearms. But theirs were nonviolent crimes totally unrelated to guns. One was convicted of DUI, another of importing and selling counterfeit cassette tapes, and the third of making a false statement on her income tax form (I assume that’s how the Democrats plan to ban all of us from owning guns.)
Yes, those are felonies, but are they really the type of crimes that should cost someone their Constitutional right to self-defense for life? The Court should at least weigh in. Particularly since the Democrats are arguing that violent felons should get their right to vote returned, but selling fake Milli Vanilli cassettes should cost you your Second Amendment rights permanently.
Here Is An Interesting Twist
By Mike Huckabee
MyPillow founder Mike Lindell is now suing Dominion Voting Systems for $1.6 billion.
Dominion filed a $1.3 billion defamation suit against Lindell in February, claiming that his claims that there was rigging in their vote counts damaged their reputation. Lindell’s lawsuit claims that by suing or threatening to sue dozens of people and media outlets for outrageous sums, Dominion is engaging in “lawfare” or abusing the legal system to intimidate and punish people into giving up their First Amendment right to criticize Dominion or question the election.
Dominion called it a “meritless retaliatory lawsuit,” but Lindell has some pretty good attorneys on his side, reportedly including Harvard law professor emeritus and First Amendment expert Alan Dershowitz.
I’m not a lawyer or legal expert, but personally, I’d rather make the case that Dominion Voting Systems is trying to silence its critics than try to argue that the damage to Dominion’s reputation is worth $1.3 billion. I’ve talked to enough people to suspect that their opinion of the value of their reputation is, shall we say, inflated.
More on this story coming soon.
Multiple Narrative Fail
By Mike Huckabee
Sunday, after hearing of a fatal police shooting in Burnsville, Minnesota, dozens of Black Lives Matter protesters held a kneeling protest outside the Governor’s Mansion. But about an hour later, they suddenly got up and left, with some saying they needed to get more information about the shooting.
Those cynics amongst us suspect that they beat a hasty retreat because they’d already gotten some information about the shooting. Mainly that the suspect was a white male who was shot by the police after he opened fire on the officers.
At the link, Grant Atkinson untangles the various false BLM narratives that this episode illustrates.
Perfect Example Of A "Gaffe"
By Mike Huckabee
I’ve often told you my standard definition of a “gaffe” in Washington: that’s when a politician slips and accidentally speaks the truth. Well, here’s a perfect example:
The White House is furiously back-pedaling after President Biden went off script and referred to the crisis he’s created on the border as a “crisis.”
Democrats Are Working Hard To Cement Their Power
By Mike Huckabee
The Democrats seem to understand that when you’re ruling against the will of the people and the interests of your own nation as radically as they are, they won’t have much time to force their agenda through before they get thrown out of power. So we’re seeing a flurry of activity to try to cement their agenda before the voters give them the bums’ rush they deserve (opening the borders, grabbing guns, silencing criticism, legalizing vote fraud, showering trillions of dollars on pet projects and supporters, etc. etc.) Keeping up with it all can be a little overwhelming.
So just to make sure this one doesn’t slip through the cracks, here’s another reminder that they also want to pass a federal law modeled on the disastrous AB5 California law that would ban state right-to-work laws, shut down up to 45% of small businesses, destroy the gig economy, and throw tens of millions of gig, contract and freelance workers out of work.
President Biden, knowing that the bill would be filibustered in the Senate, hid this time bomb in his $2.5 trillion “infrastructure” bill. So just be aware that not only are everything from child care to paid leave now considered “infrastructure,” so is putting gig workers on the unemployment line.
"I am not a legal expert"
By Mike Huckabee
Whenever I comment on legal cases, I always make sure to preface it by warning, “I am not a legal expert.” Maybe I should cite that admission as a qualification to land a job on CNN as a legal expert.
Huge Congratulations
By Mike Huckabee
Huge congratulations to Beth and Rick Hutchinson and their nine-month-old son Richard, who is poised to set a new Guinness World Record.
Richard was born prematurely at 21 weeks, and he was only 10.63 inches long and weighed less than a pound. Doctors gave him a 0% chance of survival. But with the help of the doctors and staff of Children’s Minnesota hospital in Minneapolis, and I’m sure a lot of prayers, he’s being called a miracle baby. He’s now 24 inches long, and his mom says he’s a “happy little amazing person.” After his first birthday, he will officially be recognized as the smallest baby ever to survive.
It’s a testament to the advances in modern medicine, Baby Richard’s will to live, his parents and doctors’ refusal to give up on him, and also to the fact that every life, even the smallest, is sacred and precious and can grow up to be a blessing to the world if only given a chance to live.
A Reader Writes Back...
Thank you Governor Huckabee for telling it like it is. Thankfully I don’t have any grandchildren still in school. Our country and schools are going to ruin our children.
I read your emails ever day and shake my head in disgust over so much of it.
Again, thank you for your honesty. It is truly appreciated
