I mentioned that Kamala Harris gave an “interview” to CBS’ “Sixty Minutes” that consisted of some headache-inducing word salads. But the show's full interviews with both Harris and running mate Tim Walz were released on Monday, and they proved that even in the friendliest of venues, neither is ready for prime time.
Interviewer Bill Whittaker was so taken aback by Harris’ clueless non-answers and regurgitated sound bites that after he asked how she planned to pay for all her big “investments,” he had to follow up by saying, “Pardon me, madame vice president, but the question was, ‘How are you going to PAY for it?’” When that elicited nothing but more verbal hazmat spillage, he reminded her, “But we’re dealing with the real world here.”
Well, maybe he is…
That same interview yielded a reply to a question about Israel that J.D. Vance is urging Republicans to share with family and friends to scare them into voting. He said it shows that “This is not a person that is competent enough to be President of the United States.”
Well, at least the Tim Walz interview had to go better than that, right? Right?! That can be answered by noting that he resorted for the second time to admitting that he’s a “knucklehead.”
Serious question: Since these are basically job interviews for the positions of President and Vice President, if you were interviewing applicants for, say, a pet-sitting job, and they came across like this, would you hire them?
It’s no wonder that their next appearances were scheduled for shows like “The View,” Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel and Howard Stern. I guess they couldn’t get their own parents to interview them.
RELATED: Give Tim Walz credit: Unlike Kamala, he actually had the guts to do an interview on Fox News and face real questions from an actual journalist, Shannon Bream. It didn’t go any better, but at least he showed up for a tough interview, and that’s more than Harris ever does.
