Communion

The US Conference of Catholic Bishops met Wednesday to discuss rules on whether Catholic politicians such as President Biden or Speaker Pelosi, who defy the church’s beliefs on issues such as abortion, should receive Holy Communion. Church leaders are under heavy pressure from the media to ignore their sacred beliefs for political expediency. But they might want to consider what their parishioners think about that.

The group CatholicVote surveyed regular churchgoers to ask if politicians who don’t follow church teachings should receive Communion. Seventy-four percent said such politicians shouldn’t present themselves to priests for Communion. And 83% said Catholic politicians create confusion and discord among believers when they advocate for things the church considers gravely immoral, such as abortion.

The poll didn’t establish whether Catholics think priests should refuse Communion to these politicians. But it should tell the Bishops that while the secular media may howl if they do, most Catholics in their congregations still think God’s laws apply to everyone.

    I don't think this is something to decide by parishioners . God's mandates are for everyone, and because you have a high position in politics does nor exclude you to follow the church rules.
    Abortion is a CRIME and it should be treated as that whether you are a regular parishioner or a high politician.For the Church to decide.

    On Facebook when ever I mention one little truthful thing against Harris or Biden they stop me from posting for 30 days, now when I put a comment on something against Biden they delete it so it looks like I did not comment on it. There are people everyday putting some times nasty things down on comments and nothing happens to them, they are still allowed to comment, but I will say the truth and Facebook doesn't like the truth.

    The rules of the Catholic Church are for all Catholics. Almost all Catholics know they should not present themselves for communion if they are not in the state of grace due to a grave sin . the priest, knowing that the person has publicly supported abortion and used tax payer dollars to support abortions elsewhere (brought scandal upon the church) should not give communion to that person. The Pope has said that the priests should consider that if this is done, it may divide the Catholic Church. Translation, if a person in a high position brings "scandal" upon the church nothing will be done. If an average citizen brings "scandal" upon the church that person will be publicly scorned and refused communion. If President biden gets a pass on this issue, it will without a doubt divide the Catholic Church (my opinion) I wonder how the Pope became so involved in politics as to go against the Catholic Catechism. God bless the Pope and may the Holy Spirit grant the Pope clarity on this issue.

    If the Bishops fail to uphold the teachings of the Catholic Church and fail to apply the same standards to all it's church members, it will lose even more members. Many Catholics are fed up with the Bishops not taking a strong moral stand on this issue.

    If a politician of any level defies God's command they should not be granted the sacraments, period!!!!!!!!!!!! Politicians are no better than anyone else. And, besides it is not a good example for children.
