New DHS Secretary Kristi Noem announced that she and President Trump had stopped all grant funding for NGOs (non-governmental organizations) that are helping to facilitate illegal immigration. That includes NGOs that claim to be Christian charities but are supporting illegal migrants as they travel to the border and after they cross. The freeze caused howls of outrage from the left with NGOs claiming that they can’t survive and might have to shut down if they lose their government funding.
This action has shone a spotlight on NGO’s, which many people don’t know about or understand. In fact, the very name “non-governmental organization” seems to imply that they are NOT dependent on government funding. That should be true, but in recent years, these groups have arisen as a kind of “work-around” to the rules, the same way the government pressured social media companies to do the censoring of citizens that they were barred by the First Amendment from doing themselves.
Grants to favored NGOs are used to do things that are politically partisan in nature, hidden under the guise of “humanitarianism.” Thus, we have “non-governmental organizations” taking our tax money from the government to help people violate the immigration laws of the government that’s actually funding them. Noem called it “a shadow government working against our laws.”
Many of these NGOs are not only taking our money to work against our interests, but they are greatly enriching the political cronies who run them.
We don’t know about you, but we could think of better uses for our tax money.
