In a couple of interesting non-presidential races, Ronald Eller took over 76% of the vote in the GOP runoff election to challenge Democrat Rep. Bennie Thompson in Mississippi House District 2. And in the best news of the night, Wisconsin voters resoundingly declared an end to “Zuck Bucks,” voting by about 54-45% to ban the use of private donations from billionaires to help fund elections. They also voted 58.5-41.5% to affirm that elections could only be administered by actual election officials. This is already the law, but the vote was to cement it into the state constitution.
In 2020, Biden beat Trump in Wisconsin by fewer than 21,000 votes. Wisconsin received election funds supposedly to "help election officials buy supplies and run elections at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic” from a leftist group that got $300 million from liberal Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. Critics complained that such funds that were supposed to be nonpartisan were heavily skewed toward Democrat districts.
Democrats unsuccessfully opposed both ballot measures, arguing that without private funds, it would be more difficult to operate elections. I think the word they’re looking for is “manipulate.”
