Acquittals in Michigan
In the latest blow to the FBI’s reputation, a jury in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Friday acquitted Daniel Harris and Brandon Caserta of charges that they conspired to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. They also deadlocked on verdicts against Adam Fox and Barry Croft Jr.
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/jury-whitmer-kidnapping-case-2-defendants-acquitted
The government claimed they were attempting to overthrow the state government out of anger over Whitmer’s draconian COVID lockdowns, and the media tied it in with their other anti-Trump “insurrection” narratives. But the defendants’ attorneys argued (obviously rather successfully) that the FBI orchestrated the plot and entrapped the defendants into becoming a part of it.
The link above has the facts of the case, but this one has more from Matt Vespa at Townhall.com, along with reaction and analysis as to what this disastrous prosecution means for the FBI’s credibility.
The latest plan
How do you get people to vote for even more of an agenda that’s destroying America? The Democrats hope the key is in paying “progressive” activists to harangue their friends, family and neighbors by telling them what a great job Biden is doing, really.
Many Americans already get enough clueless pushing of socialist talking points every November when their brainwashed kids come home from college for Thanksgiving. I can’t imagine that starting to annoy them with it in July or August will make them more receptive. Maybe they just hope to get it in early, before people start doing their Christmas shopping and have heart attacks over the prices.
More late-breaking good news from last Tuesday’s elections
In Nassau County, New York, Republican Eric “Ari” Brown has been declared winner of a special election for the 20th District’s state Assembly seat in Long Island. Brown will replace Melissa Miller, who’s leaving to take another position, and was the first Republican elected in that district in decades. In fact, Democrats outnumber Republicans in that district by 45,000 to 37,000.
As this article notes, this was the latest of a number of recent Republican wins in deep blue areas of New York.
You can guess the issues that swayed voters, but tops among them was Republicans running against “progressive” district attorneys’ “bail reform,” which in practice has meant turning criminals loose over and over, resulting in a huge crime wave. A great example is in Suffolk County, where a Republican beat the incumbent district attorney by 57-43%.
I’m sure the Democrats will blame this, as usual, on a “messaging problem.” They’re just not doing an effective enough job of explaining to voters why crime is a good thing.
Another Court victory for President Trump
Former President Trump scored another court victory Friday when New York State Supreme Court Justice Debra James ruled that former Mayor Bill DeBlasio had no legal right to rescind the Trump Organization’s contract with the city to run the Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point Park in the Bronx.
The city’s spokesman said Trump lost the privilege of doing business with the city of New York when he “interfered with basic democracy when he incited a deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.” If you think that sounds more like “disinformation” you’d pick up from watching too much MSNBC than a solid contract law argument, then the judge would agree with you. A city can’t negate a signed contract just because the Mayor has Trump Derangement Syndrome. The judge had already granted a restraining order, allowing the Trump group to continue running the golf course until the city made its case, and it turned out it didn’t have one. More details are at this link:
Eric Trump said of the attempted contract cancellation, “De Blasio did this for his own political theater. He wasted tremendous amounts of time and city resources on his own vendetta. He is a disgrace to New York and everyone is glad he is gone.” No matter what you think of Eric Trump, when he’s right, he’s right.
The real winners, of course, are the golfers of New York. Considering how the city’s liberal government kept the Wollman skating rink closed and rotting for years before Trump took it over and renovated it, I can only imagine what horrors would have befallen the course if DeBlasio took over the management. I doubt he could manage a golf ball through a windmill at a Putt-Putt course.
Incidentally, did anyone else crack up at the idea of a New York Democrat Mayor claiming that only those with spotless reputations enjoy the privilege of having contracts with the city? Does that include the Teamsters?
A Roller Coaster story
The ongoing roller coaster story of Elon Musk suddenly becoming the largest shareholder of Twitter took another surprise twist last night when Twitter’s megalomaniacal CEO Parag Agrawal announced that Musk would not be joining Twitter’s board of directors after all.
https://redstate.com/tladuke/2022/04/11/breaking-elon-musk-will-not-be-joining-twitter-board-n548623
Musk had spent the past week trolling Twitter – for instance, asking his followers to vote on whether their headquarters should be turned into a homeless shelter (91% said “yes.”)
Meanwhile, the usual nose-ringed leftists who’ve politicized and weaponized social media were having Vesuvius-like meltdowns over the idea of Musk returning the right to free speech to the platform (you know, the right they’re required to protect in exchange for federal immunity from lawsuits, a protection that should be yanked the nanosecond Republicans retake power.)
The most hilarious had to be a Washington Post op-ed bewailing how terrible it was for billionaires to control media platforms, published in a paper now owned by Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos. Musk’s response to that was a simple “LMAO,” which is an acronym for “Laughing My *** Off.”
I also liked his response to a follower’s suggestion that he fire everyone at Twitter for whom he can’t figure out what their alleged job is. That might singlehandedly raise the US unemployment rate.

I don’t know why Musk opted out of joining the board, but it’s possible that he wants to buy an even bigger share of Twitter, and the deal to join the board would have restricted how much he could buy. I hope that’s the case. I can’t imagine he became the company’s largest shareholder just so he could be a passive investor and watch a bunch of Silicon Valley socialists who think they should be the arbiters of public discourse grind the company down into MySpace-like irrelevancy. After all, he didn’t become the richest man in the world by throwing his money away.
Related: Just as leftists have tried to make being patriotic, pro-life, capitalist, believing in a equality under the law and a colorblind meritocracy, and recognizing that men and women are different into horrific thought crimes, they’re now trying to convince us that defending free speech means you just want to use racist slurs in public. They’ve even come up with a derogatory pejorative for those who dare to defend the most basic, God-given, First Amendment right: we’re “free speechers.”
Well, I proudly wear your dumb pejorative as a badge of honor. While I may find your arguments destructive, misleading and frankly idiotic, I will defend to the death your right to voice them. After all, as the Founders intended, free speech not only lets us express great thoughts and criticize the government, it also allows us to identify the actual racists, Nazis, communists and others who would try to take away our rights on the flimsiest of pretexts. They just open their mouths, and they tell us.
Stunning news out of Israel
While the world’s attention has been focused on Ukraine, some stunning news out of Israel is being overlooked. First, Idit Silman, the chairman of the Knesset’s governing coalition, resigned. Since the coalition that ousted Benjamin Netanyahu had only a one-vote majority, this opens the door to a possible return to power for Netanyahu.
Speaking of Netanyahu, he recently released a video warning the world of the dire consequences of President Biden’s single-minded pursuit of the terrible Iran nuclear deal. He said that Iran is developing both nuclear and missile technology that could make it a nuclear threat to its neighbors and even to America. And even if they don’t launch nuclear attacks, the threat of it will enable them to fund terrorism without fear of any military reprisals.

Finally, this story makes me heartsick: Saturday night in the West Bank city of Nablus, on the eve of Passover, Joseph’s Tomb (a holy site to Jews, Christians, Samaritans and Muslims) was broken into by Palestinian rioters. They set fires and smashed the tomb before being driven away by Palestinian security forces. Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said attacking a holy site is “attacking the heart of a people,” and vowed that the tomb would be rebuilt and the vandals brought to justice.
